MSM: "LAPD To Crack Down On Use Of Unmanned Drones By Real Estate Agents" [02/07/12] Printer Friendly Version "The Los Angeles Police Department is warning real estate agents not to use images of properties taken from unmanned aircraft, saying the flying drones pose a potential safety hazard and could violate federal aviation policy. The warning was issued this week after officers saw a television news report showing a basketball-sized object with multiple rotors hovering over an expansive Westside residence. Real estate agents have been posting aerial photos and video of homes for sale in the Los Angeles area, according to the LAPD. The pictures have been taken from several hundred feet off the ground in the city’s crowded airspace — an altitude at which police helicopters often fly. [...]"

MSM: "'Lost World' Reached: 20 Million Yr Old Antarctic Lake 'Drilled'" [02/07/12] Printer Friendly Version "After 30 years spent drilling through a four-kilometer-thick ice crust, researchers have finally broken through to a unique subglacial lake. Scientists are set to reveal its 20-million-year-old secrets, and imitate a quest to discover ET life. The Vostok project breathes an air of mystery and operates at the frontiers of human knowledge. The lake is one of the major discoveries in modern geography; drilling operations at such depths are unprecedented; never before has a geological project required such subtle technologies. The main inspiration for the project – the Russian scientist who posited the lake’s existence – died just six months before the moment of contact with the lake’s surface. Now, the whole world is looking to Lake Vostok for crucial data which might help to predict climate change. “Yesterday [on Sunday] our scientists at the Vostok polar station in the Antarctic completed drilling at depths of 3,768 meters and reached the surface of the subglacial lake,” RIA Novosti reported, quoting an unnamed Russian scientist. Meanwhile, Itar-Tass news agency says the scientists still have a few meters to go. Commentary: "The Push Toward A Snitch Culture: New App Enables "Fast, Discrete, And Intelligent" Anonymous "Crime Reporting" [02/06/12] Printer Friendly Version "In yet another Smartphone-related push to increase the intensity of the global police state, a “new” company, CrimePush, has released a smartphone app that will allow individuals greater ability to report “crimes” in real time. The CrimePush app, which is now available on iTunes, is being touted as “the latest in mobile technology to provide urban populations with fast, discrete, and intelligent safety assistance.” This follows on the heels of similar Big Brother apps such as PatriotApp, which merged phones with American security and law enforcement agencies via the Internet, allowing for one-touch reporting of suspicious activities that could be perceived as threats to the Homeland. Essentially, after the free app is downloaded, one need only access the app in order to record and report a crime to police. As Anushay Hossein of Forbes describes, “A package of information including the location of the crime, photo, video, audio, and text description of the crime are sent to authorities immediately. The application also allows for users to report crime anonymously so that they may continue with their busy lives knowing that with a push of a button, police will know and have everything to pursue the criminal. [...] Does anyone seriously believe that a society where ordinary citizens are the eyes and ears of authorities, and informants are given better tools, is one that we should look forward to? Hasn't history already taught us where this leads? Although CrimePush is currently available for download, its mass implementation is not likely to be left merely to the market. CrimePush has plans to partner at the enterprise level with law enforcement agencies, colleges and universities, high schools, and international mobile carriers. Already the company has developed relationships with the Washington DC’s Metropolitan Police Department, several Washington, DC universities, as well as the school boards of Fairfax and Loudoun Counties.  According to the Forbes report, the first “customized safety application” released for sale will be developed for George Mason University. Releases for High Schools in Loudoun county, the fastest growing county in the nation, is scheduled for Spring.[...]"

MSM: "Garage Door Openers Stop Working On Entire Missouri Block" [02/06/12] Printer Friendly Version "It’s a puzzling phenomenon: On one street in St. Charles County, garage door openers have stopped working. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that no one knows what exactly is going on at Westhampton View Court. The garage door openers at all five homes on the court stopped working shortly after Christmas. There is so much radio frequency pollution now,” Butch Martin, owner of Martin Door Co., told the paper. “Everything is wireless, and the more wireless stuff we get, the bigger the problem is going to get.” [...] Garage door companies say interference problems are common at individual homes — they blame what is known as “frequency pollution.” But experts say having the issue extend to multiple homes is just plain weird."

MSM: "UK Town Searchs For Source Of Mysterious Radio Interferences" [02/05/12] Printer Friendly Version "Residents living near an Army barracks say their village green became a mysterious ‘Bermuda Triangle’ after their remote-control car door locks were jammed by radio interference. Motorists in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, say the locks on their cars refused to work when they parked at the village green. Modern push-button ignitions were also scuppered by the unknown, eerie interference. Some members of the group had to get lifts home and return with manual overrides. The following day the group, including professional scientists, returned with sophisticated monitoring equipment and found ‘ultra-high frequency bands’ was causing the block. Professional scientist Wojciech Piotrowski said the mystery frequency was likely to have been caused by the military, but admitted a faulty TV or fridge could also be to blame. He said: ‘A strong electrical interference source was radiating radio signals in one of the ultra-high frequency bands at the southern end of the Green. ‘The primary user of this band is the military. However, by Sunday, the problem seemed to have gone. ‘It was really weird but being the radio hams that we are, we sort of knew it was an interference of some kind. The amateur radio group believe wireless devices in nearby homes, such as thermostats, remote light dimmers, switches and energy meters will have been affected. An engineer was today investigating the interference after the group reported their findings to communications watchdog, Ofcom. A spokesperson for the Army, which operates Waterbeach Barracks, said: ‘We are not aware of anything happening at Waterbeach that would have caused anything remotely like that.’ This is the first time an English village has experienced mysterious electronics failures. Last month residents of Kingsclere in Hampshire, near the world-famous Watership Down Hill, were baffled when their heating, showers, doorbells and car remote locks refused to work. They spent much of the festive season without heating and lights after the failure of household systems that rely on digital technology.  [...]"

MSM: "Satellite Phone Encryption Cracked" [02/04/12] Printer Friendly Version "Security researchers have warned that the satellite phones relied on by businesses, charities and government agencies in trouble spots and emergencies worldwide can be easily intercepted and deciphered. German academics said they had cracked two encryption systems used to protect satellite phone signals and that anyone with cheap computer equipment and radio could eavesdrop on calls over an entire continent. Hundreds of thousands of satellite phone users are thought to be affected. “We were able to completely reverse engineer the encryption algorithms employed,” said Benedikt Driessen and Ralf Hund of Ruhr University Bochum as they announced their report, "Don't Trust Satellite Phones". The encryption algorithms are known as GMR-1 and GMR-2, and are standards used across satellite phone operators, including Thuraya, a leading providers. Their technology is widely used in the Middle East and Africa, including in some military applications. Mr Driessen told The Telegraph that the equipment and software needed to intercept and decrypt satellite phone calls from hundreds of thousands of users would cost as little as $2,000. His demonstration system takes up to half an hour to decipher a call, but a more powerful computer would allow eavesdropping in real time, he said. By publishing details of how to break the encryption, the researchers hope to prompt ETSI, the organization that sets the standards, to create stronger algorithms. A major problem with GMR-1 and GMR-2, Mr Driessen said, was that their details were kept secret so security experts cannot test them.  [...]"

And now the mystery has finally come to an end, according to a businessman from Finland named Viekko Latvala, a self described “prophet of god,” who says he has decoded the book and unlocked the secrets of the world’s most mysterious manuscript. Latvala’s business associate, Ari Ketola told FoxNews.com the meaning of the crazy characters he described as “sonic waves and vocal syllables.” “The book is a life work and scientific publication of medicine that would be still useful today,” Ketola said. “The writer was a scientist of plants, pharmacy, astrology and astronomy. It contains … prophesy for some decades and hundreds of years ahead from the time it was created.” In other words, the Voynich Manuscript — which is currently held by Yale University’s Beincke Rare Book and Manuscript Library in New Haven, Conn. — is an herbological tome, something the writer used to keep track of plants and their uses for either scientific or medical purposes. Flashback: "Mayan Documentary to Show ‘Evidence’ of Alien Contact in Ancient Mexico" [02/03/12] Printer Friendly Version "Guatemala and Mexico release secret documents and artefacts for forthcoming film Revelations of the Mayans 2012 and Beyond. The ancient Mayans had contact with alien visitors who left behind evidence of their existence, according to a new Mexican documentary. Sundance winner Juan Carlos Rulfo’s Revelations of the Mayans 2012 and Beyond is currently in production for release next year to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar, reports the Wrap. Producer Raul Julia-Levy said the documentary-makers were working in cooperation with the Mexican government for what he said was “the good of mankind”. He said the order to collaborate had come directly from the country’s president, Álvaro Colom Caballeros. “Mexico will release codices, artefacts and significant documents with evidence of Mayan and extraterrestrial contact, and all of their information will be corroborated by archaeologists,” he said. “The Mexican government is not making this statement on their own – everything we say, we’re going to back it up.” Caballeros himself was conspicuous by his absence from the statement released by Julia-Levy. So far, the minister of tourism for the Mexican state of Campeche, Luis Augusto García Rosado, appears to be the highest-ranking government official to go on record confirming the discovery of ET life, but he’s not holding back. In a statement, Rosado spoke of contact “between the Mayans and extraterrestrials, supported by translations of certain codices, which the government has kept secure in underground vaults for some time”. In a telephone conversation with the Wrap, he also spoke of “landing pads in the jungle that are 3,000 years old”. The documentary is believed to focus in part on previously unexplored sections of a Mayan site at Calakmul, Mexico, as well as a number of sites in Guatemala, where officials are also backing the documentary. “Guatemala, like Mexico, home to the ancient-yet-advanced Mayan civilisation … has also kept certain provocative archeological discoveries classified, and now believes that it is time to bring forth this information in the new documentary,” Guatemala’s minister of tourism, Guillermo Novielli Quezada, said in a statement. Commentary "Strange Sounds In Sky Explained By Scientists" Prof. Dr. Elchin Khalilov [02/02/12] Printer Friendly Version "We have analyzed records of these sounds and found that most of their spectrum lies within the infrasound range, i.e. is not audible to humans. What people hear is only a small fraction of the actual power of these sounds. They are low-frequency acoustic emissions in the range between 20 and 100 Hz modulated by ultra-low infrasonic waves from 0.1 to 15 Hz. In geophysics, they are called acoustic-gravity waves; they are formed in the upper atmosphere, at the atmosphere-ionosphere boundary in particular. There can be quite a lot of causes why those waves are generated: earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, hurricanes, storms, tsunamis, etc. However, the scale of the observed humming sound in terms of both the area covered and its power far exceeds those that can be generated by the above-mentioned phenomena. [...] There is one more possible cause of these sounds and it may lie at the Earth's core. The fact is that the acceleration of the drift of the Earth's north magnetic pole which increased more than fivefold between 1998 and 2003 and is at the same level today points to intensification of energy processes in the Earth's core, since it is processes in the inner and outer core that form the Earth's geomagnetic field. Meanwhile, as we have already reported, on November 15, 2011 all ATROPATENA geophysical stations which record three-dimensional variations of the Earth's gravitational field almost simultaneously registered a powerful gravitational impulse. Interviews: "Project Camelot : Bill Wood Project Looking Glass Interview - Transcript" [02/02/12] Printer Friendly Version  Extract: "... Based on the rules of the game, the bad guys have already lost; the good guys have already won. Yes, there’re moves left on the table, but those moves are being forced by the player that is going to win. The only way that checkmate can’t happen is if the player that’s winning makes a mistake. But from all the information that I’ve gathered, all of the information that’s been given, all the information that’s been vetted to me, it seems pretty obvious that the good-guy player on the side of the chessboard knows exactly what has to be done to win the game. And so at this point any mistake would be all but impossible. But again, you really have to understand the game to know that the guy that’s losing has lost ... One scenario [Timeline One] is what most people would understand to be 'ascension', ... that brings us 'out of the cocoon' and turns us into a 'butterfly' ... Timeline Two is some kind of major global nuke catastrophe that drives most of us underground and leaves a few of us on top to fend for ourselves ... But one of the things that goes on is they are very busy building underground bases, supposedly underground cities. And so, they seem to be hedging their bets for the negative timeline...Can you explain why they have been hedging their bets to such a degree on the negative? ... It’s very simple. They’re insane ... Apparently regardless of which way they work, the convergence will happen ... I see as a new beginning, an end of this reality, the beginning of something that we can’t even possibly understand, based on the level of our beliefs currently.[...]"  Note: Nice to read a transcript of the video. MSM: "Time in Space May Alter Astronauts’ Genes" [02/01/12] Printer Friendly Version "Spending long periods at low gravity may alter genes, suggests a new experiment involving a magnet-powered trick used on Earth to simulate weightlessness in space. Subjected to magnetic levitation that generated a gravitational effect similar to that experienced by astronauts orbiting Earth, fruit flies experienced changes in crucial genes. Humans won’t necessarily respond like fruit flies, but the system is considered an useful model for probing the effects of permanent free-fall on biology. However, it’s also possible that the gene disruption was caused by magnetism, not low gravity. “We have tried to separate the effects of microgravity and magnetism, but we’ve learned it’s not so easy,” said molecular biologist Raul Herranz of Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas in Spain, leader of the study published Jan. 31 in BMC Genomics. “We don’t know yet what is causing what — the magnetism or the microgravity?” [...]"

Early in December, a brace of 42 radio telescopes, known as the Allen Telescope Array, nestled here in the shadow of Lassen Peak, came to life and resumed hopping from star to star in the constellation Cygnus, listening for radio broadcasts from alien civilizations. Health officials confronted by superbug outbreaks will be able to identify the bug’s strain and begin planning treatment within hours rather than days or weeks, potentially saving thousands of lives. Soon, researchers in the developing world will take portable DNA sequencers into the field to identify new viruses and verify water quality. And police investigators will be able to develop a suspect’s DNA profile as quickly as their fictional counterparts do in glossy television dramas, while commandos on the battlefield will identify the bodies of friend and foe. MSM: "Invisibility Cloak Breakthrough" [01/26/12] Printer Friendly Version "Researchers have "cloaked" a three-dimensional object, making it invisible from all angles, for the first time. However, the demonstration works only for waves in the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum. It uses a shell of what are known as plasmonic materials; they present a "photo negative" of the object being cloaked, effectively cancelling it out. The idea, outlined in New Journal of Physics, could find first application in high-resolution microscopes. Most of the high-profile invisibility cloaking efforts have focused on the engineering of "metamaterials" - modifying materials to have properties that cannot be found in nature. The modifications allow metamaterials to guide and channel light in unusual ways - specifically, to make the light rays arrive as if they had not passed over or been reflected by a cloaked object. Previous efforts that have made 3-D objects disappear have relied upon a "carpet cloak" idea, in which the object to be cloaked is overlaid with a "carpet" of metamaterial that bends light so as to make the object invisible. Now, Andrea Alu and colleagues at the University of Texas at Austin have pulled off the trick in "free space", making an 18cm-long cylinder invisible to incoming microwave light. [...]"

Whether they were balloons, conventional aircraft or misidentified astronomical objects, the new year of UFO sightings is off and running as the worldwide proliferation of digital video cameras and phone cams makes it easier than ever to photograph unusual sights in the sky above us. The Colorado-based Mutual UFO Network, the largest UFO investigative organization in the world, received many reports of UFOs during the first week of the year from eyewitnesses in 36 out of 50 states. The 14 states that haven’t reported in so far are Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming — but the year is young. ‘For the entire month of January 2011, MUFON recorded around 500 reports, and we’re already up to 233 after just the first week of 2012,’ said MUFON international director Clifford Clift. ‘For December, we had 810, compared to about 500 in December 2010,’ Clift told The Huffington Post. That also runs to the end of the universe. It's also infinite. Both are infinite, yes, but are they the same? Isn't one infinity bigger than the other? That's the question that Georg Cantor, a German mathematician who died shortly before World War I ended, grappled with throughout his life. Infinity was supposed to be an absolute number, especially in mathematics, where dividing infinity by a billion or multiplying it by a billion results, invariably and always, in infinity. Cantor thought about it and came up with aleph-nought, a 'number' that counts all the integers — whole numbers without fractions — that there are in existence.  [...]"

Farr, a spokesperson for the Germany-based Chaos Computer Club, outlined the group's mission at this week's Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin, the BBC reported. Calling for an "uncensorable Internet in space," Farr outlined the CCC's Hackerspace Global Grid, a project that also will involve setting up low-cost ground stations to track and communicate with the fast-moving satellites. Farr, who introduced and began soliciting donations for the Hackerspace Global Grid this summer, said the project is now a top priority because of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), a bill that some critics say could have catastrophic effects on freedom of communication and the way people connect to the Internet. The stress response is a protective mechanism induced by many potentially harmful environmental stimuli and characterized by the synthesis of specific proteins that assist the renaturation and transport of other proteins. Our studies suggest that EM fields initiate the stress response by interacting with electrons moving within DNA. We have identified a 900 base pair segment associated with the response to EM fields, that when removed eliminates the response, and when transfected into a reporter construct, causes the construct to become EM field responsive. Commentary: "1,100-Year-Old Mayan Ruins Found In North Georgia" [12/23/11] Printer Friendly Version "Archaeologists have discovered the ruins of an ancient Mayan city in the mountains of North Georgia believed to be at least 1,100 years old. According to Richard Thornton at Examiner.com, the ruins are reportedly what remains of a city built by Mayans fleeing wars, volcanic eruptions, droughts and famine. In 1999, University of Georgia archeologist Mark Williams led an expedition to investigate the Kenimer Mound, a large, five-sided pyramid built in approximately 900 A.D. in the foothills of Georgia’s tallest mountain, Brasstown Bald. Many local residents has assumed for years that the pyramid was just another wooded hill, but in fact it was a structure built on an existing hill in a method common to Mayans living in Central America as well as to Southeastern Native American tribes. Speculation has abounded for years as to what could have happened to the people who lived in the great Meso-American societies of the first century. Some historians believed that they simply died out in plagues and food shortages, but others have long speculated about the possibility of mass migration to other regions. When evidence began to turn up of Mayan connections to the Georgia site, South African archeologist Johannes Loubser brought teams to the site who took soil samples and analyzed pottery shards which dated the site and indicated that it had been inhabited for many decades approximately 1000 years ago. The people who settled there were known as Itza Maya, a word that carried over into the Cherokee language of the region. The city that is being uncovered there is believed to have been called Yupaha, which Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto searched for unsuccessfully in 1540. So far, archeologists have unearthed “at least 154 stone masonry walls for agricultural terraces, plus evidence of a sophisticated irrigation system and ruins of several other stone structures.” Much more may still be hidden underground. Explorations: "E-Prime - English Excluding The Verb "To Be" [12/22/11] "Some scholars advocate using E-Prime as a device to clarify thinking and strengthen writing.[1] For example, the sentence "the film was good" could translate into E-Prime as "I liked the film" or as "the film made me laugh". The E-Prime versions communicate the speaker's experience rather than judgment, making it harder for the writer or reader to confuse opinion with fact. [...] Bourland and other advocates also suggest that use of E-Prime leads to a less dogmatic style of language that reduces the possibility of misunderstanding and for conflict.[3] Some languages already treat equivalents of the verb "to be" differently without obvious benefits to their speakers. For instance, Arabic, like Russian, lacks a verb form of "to be" in the present tense. If one wanted to assert, in Arabic, that an apple looks red, one would not literally say "the apple is red", but "the apple red". In other words, speakers can communicate the verb form of "to be", with its semantic advantages and disadvantages, even without the existence of the word itself. Thus they do not resolve the ambiguities that E-Prime seeks to alleviate without an additional rule, such as that all sentences must contain a verb. Similarly, the Ainu language consistently does not distinguish between "be" and "become"; thus ne means both "be" and "become", and pirka means "good", "be good", and "become good" equally. Many languages—for instance Japanese, Spanish, and Hebrew—already distinguish "existence"/"location" from "identity"/"predication" [...]"  Note: Interesting to ponder. Renowned Russian astrophysicist Dr. Nikolai A. Kozyrev (1908-1983, pronounced Ko-zir-ev,) proved beyond any doubt that such an energy source had to exist, and as a result he became one of the most controversial figures in the history of the Russian scientific community. The awesome implications of his work, and of all those who followed him, were almost entirely concealed by the former Soviet Union, but with the fall of the Iron Curtain and the advent of the Internet we are finally gaining access to “Russia’s Best-Kept Secret.” Two generations of remarkable research by thousands of Ph.D. level specialists have emerged from Kozyrev’s seed findings, which completely change our understanding of the Universe. Over and above all this, there are other, larger things happening which are detailed in the Matrix 5 material; the civilization won't make it until the end of 2012. A new software program, described in the latest issue of Science, is designed to find the patterns in data that scientists don't know to look for. David Reshef, one of the scientists behind MINE, as the program is called, explains, "Standard methods will see one pattern as signal and others as noise. There can potentially be a variety of different types of relationships in a given data set. What's exciting about our method is that it looks for any type of clear structure within the data, attempting to find all of them. ... This ability to search for patterns in an equitable way offers tremendous exploratory potential in terms of searching for patterns without having to know ahead of time what to search for." Crowd control tools like the LRAD Sound Cannon emit bursts of loud and annoying sounds that can induce headaches and nausea. But Raytheon's non-lethal pressure shield creates a pulsed pressure wave that resonates the upper respiratory tract of a human, hindering breathing and eventually incapacitating the target. The patent points out that the sound waves being generated are actually not that powerful, so while protestors might collapse from a lack of oxygen reaching their brains, their eardrums won't be damaged in the process. Phew! And like Roman soldiers joining their shields to form a large impenetrable wall, these new riot shields can actually be networked together to form a larger acoustical horn, vastly improving their range, power, and effectiveness. There's no word on what the long-term medical implications might be if you find yourself on the wrong side of one of these shields. Vatan acquired the information from a report by Robert S. Norris and Hans M. Kristensen that was published on the “Atomic Scientists Bulletin” website, revealing an inventory of the nuclear weapons the US military keeps in Turkey. Number of warheads decreased from 90 in 2001. Between 10 and 20 of the 70 nuclear warheads at Incirlik were designed to be delivered to their targets by Turkish warplanes, according to the report. The 142nd fighter/bomber squadron of the Turkish Air Forces, nicknamed the “Gazelles,” was assigned the task of delivering the nuclear ordnances. The squadron consists of F-16A/B warplanes. The US military needed a certain warplane type that is different than those stationed at the Incirlik airbase in order to deliver the remaining 50 warheads, the report by Norris and Kristensen said. The Turkish state, however, has declined to allow the US military to deploy the said aircraft at Incirlik. US warplanes would need to land at Incirlik from another location, equip the nuclear warheads and then fly to their targets, according to the report. Turkey’s refusal to station nuclear-capable US warplanes on its soil prevented Incirlik from acquiring a “full NATO position” status. This was a unique case among NATO bases, the report said. The report indicated that the B61-12 nuclear warheads currently deployed at Incirlik would be changed with the new B61-3/4 warheads. Former Turkish Air Force Commander Gen. Ergin Cilasun was quoted as saying that “Turkey’s nuclear strike duty within NATO has ended” in 2001. [...]"

The mineral, named after the Norse god of thunder, has languished in relative obscurity for many years as opposed to its much more recognized cousin, uranium. However, conversations have been popping up about thorium in recent years and how it can be a game-changer in the energy industry. Thorium has incredible potential as an ultra-safe, clean, and cheap nuclear energy source which can power the world for millennia. [...] Thorium is found naturally in rocks in the form of thorium-232, and has a half-life of about 14 billion years. Estimates by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) show it is about three times more common in the Earth's crust than uranium. It can be obtained through various methods, most commonly through the extraction from monazite sands. Known reserves of thorium are not well-known due to lack of exploratory research. The US Geological Service estimates that the USA, Australia, and India hold the largest reserves. India is believed to have the lion's share of thorium deposits. In the United States, Idaho contains a large vein deposit. The world has an estimated total of 4.4 million tons. A newly created organization known as the Weinberg Foundation has taken up the cause of promoting thorium energy. The foundation was named after Dr. Alvin Weinberg, a nuclear energy researcher in the 1960s who laid out the vision of safe and abundant thorium power. He pioneered the Molten Salt Reactor using thorium in its liquid fuel form at the US Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This reactor had an inherently safer design and dramatically reduced the amount of atomic waste in comparison to typical nuclear reactors. Unfortunately, the thorium reactor program was not fully pursued due to political and military reasons."

Sven Gronemeyer yesterday shared his reading of a 1,300-year-old Mayan stone tablet that makes reference to 2012: He says the hieroglyphs describe the return of Bolon Yokte, the mysterious Mayan god of creation and war. The date of his reappearance? At the end of a 13th period of 400 years: Dec. 21, 2012. The date, therefore, marks a transition to a new era, not an end, he says.  The institute has tried to dispel talk of a 2012 apocalypse, the subject of numerous postings and stories on the Internet. Its latest step was to arrange a special round table of Mayan experts this week at Palenque, which is where Gronemeyer made his comments. The 270th day of the winged spacecraft's second flight is today, but the military has no intentions of bringing the billion-dollar robotic vehicle back to Earth just yet. [...] Exactly what the X-37B is doing is a secret. The Air Force insists the X-37B, built by Boeing in its soon-to-be-closed Huntington Beach facility, is meant only for conducting orbital science experiments in its pickup-bed-size cargo bay, but analysts say the X-37B is capable of much more than that. It could be an orbital spy. It could even be used to sneak up on and tamper with enemy satellites. It could haul small batches of supplies to the International Space Station. In October, Boeing program manager Art Grantz proposed to build an enlarged X-37C model that could also carry astronauts to the station, filling a gap left by the retired NASA Space Shuttle. Whatever it’s up to, the X-37B will be doing it longer than anyone imagined when the diminutive spacecraft launched atop an Atlas rocket for the first time in April last year. The Air Force said last year that the X-37B could last nine months in orbit before its power and fuel ran out. (In comparison, the longest manned shuttle mission lasted just 17 days.) In October, Air Force program manager Lt. Col. Tom McIntyre said an extension might be possible. Now it appears the Air Force is taking it day by day, carefully monitoring the X-37B “as it sips power and fuel like a Prius,” in the words of one source involved in the development of military spacecraft. Captain Sean Malinowski of the LAPD is a staunch advocate of using predictive analytics to examine data from past crimes to determine when and where certain crimes are likely to occur next so police can be on hand to stop them before they are committed. To test his theories on predictive policing, on 6 November, Malinowski launched a three month trial program in his area of command. “We’re doing a rigorous examination, an experiment, for the next three months of predictive analytics and for the first time we’re going to rely 100 percent on the computer to forecast property crimes, which are the lion’s share of our crime,” he said. Malinowski hesitates to relinquish control in his jurisdiction but is more than willing to make some sacrifices if it results in a drop in the crime rate. The LAPD and Santa Cruz Police Department in particular have taken to deploying predictive software developed by social scientists and mathematicians at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).  The software is modeled after a mathematical algorithm used to predict earthquakes and their aftershocks. Researchers discovered that like aftershocks, which occur in close proximity to an earthquake’s epicenter, criminals commit crimes in close proximity to past crimes. The software works best at predicting property crimes like home burglaries and vehicle thefts as these targets are stationary and do not change that much over time in comparison to homicides or assault victims who are mobile and can change their behavior.[...]"

While pure science is, indeed, a necessary component of any civilization which seeks to expand its understanding of the universe, what we see dominating the landscape today isn't pure science but corporate-driven "science" that only seeks to accelerate corporate profits, not human understanding. And with that corporate-slanted science comes a whole new era of truly terrifying technologies that we may soon see become reality in our world. An X-ray beamline at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in France will, hopefully, unlock some of its secrets. The inner core of our planet, hiding 2,500 kilometers beneath the surface, endures about three and a half million times atmospheric pressure and a temperature thought to be roughly as hot as the surface of the sun. We have seen just this occur in the Middle East on multiple occasions during the so-called Arab Spring and now these control systems are being implemented in full force in the West as well. This is not just dangerous because having government creep into the private lives of citizens usually turns out poorly but because this type of technology enables horrific atrocities. One type of system is produced by Datong in the United Kingdom which has already been purchased by the largest police force in all of Britain, the London Metropolitan Police. The London Police paid $230,000 for so called “ICT hardware” in 2008 and 2009 which creates a fake cellular phone network in order to not only intercept the communications and unique identification numbers from phones, but also to remotely turn off telephones. This incredibly dangerous technology that seems like something out of a spy thriller is highly portable and is about the size of a suitcase. [...] The portable device, which is the size of a suitcase, pretends to be a legitimate cell phone tower that emits a signal to dupe thousands of mobile phones in a targeted area. Authorities can then intercept SMS messages, phone calls and phone data, such as unique IMSI and IMEI identity codes that allow authorities to track phone users’ movements in real-time, without having to request location data from a mobile phone carrier. In addition to intercepting calls and messages, the system can be used to effectively cut off phone communication, such as in a war zone where phones might be used as a trigger for an explosive device, or for crowd control during demonstrations and riots where participants use phones to organize. The Met police would not provide details to the Guardian about where or when its technology had been used. According to the company’s web site, Datong “develops intelligence solutions for international military, law enforcement and intelligence agencies for use in all operating environments,” and sells its products in the U.S. as well. MSM: "Darpa Wants To Master The Science Of Propaganda" [11/03/11] Printer Friendly Version "Mark Twain once tried to distinguish between the storyteller’s art and tales that a machine could generate. He observed that stringing “incongruities and absurdities together in a wandering and sometimes purposeless way, and seem innocently unaware that they are absurdities,” was the province of the American storyteller. A machine might imitate simple formulas behind yarns, but never quite master them. The Pentagon’s freewheeling research arm is hoping to prove Twain wrong. Darpa is asking scientists to “take narratives and make them quantitatively analyzable in a rigorous, transparent and repeatable fashion.” The idea is to detect terrorists who have been indoctrinated by propaganda. Then, the Pentagon can respond with some messages of its own. The program is called “Narrative Networks.” By understanding how stories have shaped your mind, the Pentagon hopes to sniff out who has fallen prey to dangerous ideas, a neuroscience researcher involved in the project tells Danger Room. With this knowledge, the military can also target groups vulnerable to terrorists’ recruiting tactics with its own counter-messaging. “Stories are important in security contexts,” Darpa said in an Oct. 7 solicitation for research proposals. Stories “change the course of insurgencies, frame negotiations, play a role in political radicalization, influence the methods and goals of violent social movements.” The desire to study narratives has been simmering for a while in the Defense Department. A Darpa workshop in April to discuss the “neurobiology of narratives” added momentum to this project. In the first 18-month phase of the program, the Pentagon wants researchers to study how stories infiltrate social networks and alter our brain circuits. One of the stipulated research goals: to “explore the function narratives serve in the process of political radicalization and how they can influence a person or group’s choice of means (such as indiscriminant violence) to achieve political ends.” [...]"  Note:  So controlling and manipulative ... a sequential dream and a simultaneous nightmare. MSM: "DHS Doesn’t Want Its New Spy Drones" [11/02/11] Printer Friendly Version "Congress this past August approved a very generous $32 million appropriation to the DHS for the acquisition of three new Predator drones, meant to bolster the Department’s border-monitoring efforts. Department officials were surprised, to say the least. See, new Predators weren’t exactly on their surveillance gear wish list. “We didn’t ask for them,” an unnamed official told the Los Angeles Times. DHS is already struggling to operate their seven existing drones. Officials acknowledge that they are short on pilots and maintenance — right now, they can only pay to fly the drones five days a week. So now DHS is in a mad scramble trying to figure out how they can successfully incorporate three more vehicles into the roster. That means more than just pilots: Each drone also requires a maintenance crew, intelligence analysts and pricey satellite bandwidth. “That is year-by-year, hand-to-mouth living,” another unnamed official said of hard-knock times at the department, which has been forced to move money from other projects just to keep their surveillance initiative, which will eventually boast 18 to 24 drones monitoring U.S. borders and waterways for everything from illegal immigrants to drug runners, operational. [...] The DHS might not be happy, but the drone endowment will no doubt have some parties squealing with delight: The appropriation was the result of ongoing lobbying from the so-called “Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Caucus,” a group of several dozen congressmen, many of whom hail from Southern California — a hot-bed of drone development and home to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, the company that makes the Predator drone in question. Already, General Atomics has scored $240 million from DHS’ Customs and Border Protection since 2005 for the manufacture of the unmanned aerial vehicles — and generously enough, they’ve handed $1.6 million of it over to the campaign funds of several Congressional members on the drone caucus. “This is a symptom of how surveillance technology is spreading around the U.S.,” Jay Stanley, a senior privacy and technology analyst with the American Civil Liberties Union, said. “A lot of times it is not being pulled by people on the ground. It is being pushed from above by people who want to sell it.” "

That, at least, is the implication of a recently-uncovered Department of Homeland Security document revealing the existence of Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST) - a "pre-crime" detection unit not unlike the one dystopian novelist Philip K. Dick dreamed up for Minority Report, which inspired the Tom Cruise film. And by way of homage to another great dystopian writer, George Orwell, FAST will red-flag individuals harboring what the ruling psychopaths call "malintent." As DailyTech.com reports: This new "pre-crime" detection facility was discovered via a June 2010 DHS document that was acquired by the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC). The document states that information is currently collected and retained on "members of the public" as part of the pre-crime system, which is called Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST). FAST is made up of algorithms that use factors including gender, age, ethnicity, heart rate, body movements, occupation, voice pitch changes, body heat fluctuations and breathing patterns to identify clues as to whether the individual(s) will commit a crime in the future. The idea behind FAST is to prevent crimes from happening before individuals even have a chance to commit them based on the factors listed above. It is able to do this through the use of sensors that collect audio recordings, video images and psychophysiological measurements. "The department's Science and Technology Directorate has conducted preliminary research in operational settings to determine the feasibility of using non-invasive physiological and behavioral sensor technology and observational techniques to detect signs of stress, which are often associated with intent to do harm," said Peter Boogaard, the deputy press secretary for the Department of Homeland Security. The virus, first detected nearly two weeks ago by the military’s Host-Based Security System, has not prevented pilots at Creech Air Force Base in Nevada from flying their missions overseas. Nor have there been any confirmed incidents of classified information being lost or sent to an outside source. But the virus has resisted multiple efforts to remove it from Creech’s computers, network security specialists say. And the infection underscores the ongoing security risks in what has become the U.S. military’s most important weapons system. “We keep wiping it off, and it keeps coming back,” says a source familiar with the network infection, one of three that told Danger Room about the virus. “We think it’s benign. But we just don’t know.” Military network security specialists aren’t sure whether the virus and its so-called “keylogger” payload were introduced intentionally or by accident; it may be a common piece of malware that just happened to make its way into these sensitive networks. The specialists don’t know exactly how far the virus has spread. But they’re sure that the infection has hit both classified and unclassified machines at Creech. The finding is so startling that, for the moment, everybody should be very prudent.” Ereditato declined to speculate on what it might mean if other physicists, who will be officially informed of the discovery at a meeting in CERN on Friday, found that OPERA’s measurements were correct. “I just don’t want to think of the implications,” he told Reuters. “We are scientists and work with what we know.” [...]"

I’m in no mood to find specific citations today but you can be assured that the idea of a “cloud” to represent the outside network was on whiteboards that I saw working as a temp in NYNEX research labs in the late 1980s. And even by that date, it was an understood context, one going back years before. (Terms I’ve seen retrofitted to give both the sense of timeliness and timelessness include zero-day, warez, and the war- prefix). But this new round of it comes pre-packaged with marketer infestation. After all, it’s a great word: it insinuates soft fluffiness, a size and grandeur, and a fuzzy meaninglessness. So if you fail to deal with the underlying hard facts and cases, who can blame you? It’s a cloud. Soft, huggable cloud, I do love you and your rounded edges. But what this all kind of hides is the situation of how you feel about stuff you generate. Let me step aside and say that as a historian guy, I am big into collecting a lot of cast-offs. This is what I do. I’ve downloaded thousands of podcasts and millions of blog posts and a lot of other insane stupid stuff. We’ll get from that what we can, in the future. This is not about that. This is about your data. This is about your work. This is about you using your time so that you make things and work on things and you trust a location to do “the rest” and guess what, here is what we have learned: [...]"  Note:  The computer history documentarian recently shared a post on his blog (originally written in 2009, now with a few updates) that's a bareknuckle assault on "the cloud." The information -- protected for 80 years -- is expected to reveal Mayan beliefs in future catastrophes and wisdom characterized as "shocking," producer Raul Julia-Levy, son of actor Raul Julia, told TheWrap. The end of the Mayan calendar in December 2012 has long given rise to theories and speculation about the end of the world. The agreement will allow Julia-Levy to film in never-before-seen locations. "In the site at Calakmul (pictured below right), workers for INAH [the National Institute of Anthropology and History] have discovered rooms inside the pyramid that have never been seen or explored before. The technique, they say, could give biologists “atom-by-atom control” over the molecules in living organisms. One expert the BBC spoke to agrees, saying the technique would be seized upon by “the entire biology community.” The work by a Cambridge University team, which used nematode worms, appears in the Journal of the American Chemical Society. The worms – from the species Caenorhabditis elegans – are 1mm long, with just a thousand cells in their transparent bodies. What makes the newly created animals different is that their genetic code has been extended to create biological molecules not known in the natural world. Genes are the DNA blueprints that enable living organisms to construct their biological machinery, protein molecules, out of strings of simpler building blocks called amino acids. Just 20 amino acids are used in natural living organisms, assembled in different combinations to make the tens of thousands of different proteins needed to sustain life. But Sebastian Greiss and Jason Chin have re-engineered the nematode worm’s gene-reading machinery to include a 21st amino acid, not found in nature. Dr Chin of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (where Francis Crick and James Watson first cracked the structure of DNA) describes the technique as “potentially transformational”: designer proteins could be created that are entirely under the researchers’ control. According to Vivos, the American company that constructs the bunkers, “about two dozen” Brisbane residents are among “hundreds” of Australians enquiring about spots in massive underground bunkers that can house 1000 people for up to a year to ride out Hollywood-style disasters. The company is considering building bunkers in Australia if enough people are willing to cough up between $10,000 and $50,000 (kids are half price) for a spot in the airtight, fortified dwellings that feature libraries, private rooms, food supplies and even their own jails. However, Vivos has bad news for Brisbane residents hoping to be on the safe side of the wall when things get ugly. “We prefer inland and high ground to avoid the impacts of a mega-tsunami,” a spokeswoman said via email. “Unfortunately, the highest ground in eastern Australia is within 100 miles of the coastline. More catastrophic events in the meantime will undoubtedly accelerate that as more people connect the ‘dots’ and realize we are living in very vulnerable times,” a company spokesman said. If disaster holds off for long enough, the company also plans to build two shelters in Europe, taking the network’s total capacity to 6000 people. Bunker capacities would range between 100 and 1000 people, with prices more expensive in smaller shelters. And the more jumpy among us are keen to lock up spots by late this year when Comet Elenin is tipped to rattle earth with a high-speed flyby that has many concerned about the effects its gravity could have on Earth. “Our government sources from around the world have alerted us that they have been preparing for this for decades,” said the spokeswoman. “Nobody knows if the threat is real, other than the ‘government’ of course, and they are not telling presumably to avoid mass panic. Gass hadn’t had a traffic ticket in years, so the Natick resident was surprised this spring when he received a letter from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles informing him to cease driving because his license had been revoked. “I was shocked,’’ Gass said in a recent interview. “As far as I was concerned, I had done nothing wrong.’’ After frantic calls and a hearing with Registry officials, Gass learned the problem: An antiterrorism computerized facial recognition system that scans a database of millions of state driver’s license images had picked his as a possible fraud. [...] Last year, the facial recognition system picked out more than 1,000 cases that resulted in State Police investigations, officials say. And some of those people are guilty of nothing more than looking like someone else. Not all go through the long process that Gass says he endured, but each must visit the Registry with proof of their identity. At least 34 states are using such systems. Commentary: "Full Speed Ahead For Facial Recognition Technology" [07/19/11] Printer Friendly Version  "Face.com has been used to tag over 25 billion faces in over 7 billion photos since launching in late 2007. Facebook users had been using the Face.com facial recognition app to tag friends in photos for two years before Facebook stepped on the Israel-based company’s toes by making facial recognition a default feature for photo tagging this year. Face.com has a nice head start as interest in facial recognition technology heats up. Photo-sites like Picasa and Facebook are making it widely available commercially for easy people-tagging; bars will be using it so that you can check out the gender ratio at your favorite watering holes via smartphone before deciding where to go; digital billboards are using it to target passersby with relevant advertising; and over 40 police stations around the country are adopting an iPhone tool, MORIS, that will allow them to identify criminal suspects with a face scan. CEO Gil Hirsch, 37, says he isn’t worried about Facebook making his app irrelevant. “Our technology is better,” he says. Plus the social networking site is not the company’s only outlet. They offer a facial recognition technology API that over 20,000 developers are using for their own projects, such as FindYourFaceMate.com, an online dating site with the narcissistic premise that we get along best with people who resemble us. The site matches you with doppelgangers of the sex you’re interested in. The technology can also be useful for detecting gender or mood or if there’s a face there at all. “One Chatroulette-like client uses it to make sure that there is a face video-chatting and not a….,” Hirsh trails off. “Not a non-face?” I offer delicately, knowing about Chatroulette’s popularity among men who like the idea of anonymous indecent exposure via webcam. “Exactly,” he says. The key usage, though, still tends to be identity. The company offers “safe alerts” to let users know when new photos of them appear on a given site. “Like Google alerts for your face,” says Hirsch. At this point, the alert is reserved for a contained site like Facebook, rather than the Internet at large – in part for privacy reasons. You probably wouldn’t want someone else setting up a Google alert for your face; on a site like Facebook, the company knows you are who you say you are and limits searches to photos that have been shared with you by contacts within your social network. "Scientists Punch a Hole in the Fabric of Time with a "Time Cloak"" [07/15/11] Printer Friendly Version "Researchers at Cornell have designed, built and demonstrated the first "cloak" that hides events in time. The process relies on similar methods of distorting electromagnetic fields as invisibility cloaks, but it exploits a time-space duality in electromagnetic theory: diffraction and dispersion of light in space are mathematically equivalent. Scientists have used this theory to create a "time-lens [that] can, for example, magnify or compress in time." The time cloak takes two of those lenses and arranges them so that one compresses a beam of light while the other decompresses it. That leaves the beam seemingly unchanged, but the diffraction and dispersion actually "cloak" small events in the beam's timeline. Right now, the cloak can only last for 120 nanoseconds, and the theoretical max for the current design measures just microseconds. But the prospect of being able to exist outside of time, even for just a few microseconds, should be enough to make even the most jaded tech nerd giggle at the possibilities. Research: "Turning Radio Waves Into Power (With Circuits Printed On Paper)" [07/12/11] Printer Friendly Version "Researchers at Georgia Tech have found a way to harvest energy from electromagnetic waves in the air. The harvesting devices are produced using an inkjet printer and can collect small amounts of power from a wide band of frequencies --everything from FM radio up to radar. The technology isn't new—researchers have floated concepts (and a few devices) that can harvest energy from ambient WiFi signals and other small sources, but these are usually able to pull power only from tiny slices of the electromagnetic spectrum (perhaps just a few KHz). The new system can draw energy from much wider electromagnetic swaths: 100MHz to 15GHz. Even better, the sensors that harvest the energy are simple to make. To print the circuits on paper or paper-like polymers, the researchers use an inkjet printer and add an emulsion of nanoparticles. Circuits printed on polymers are currently less advanced, but the scientists say they have a wider range and can harvest energy from frequencies up to 60GHz. Gadgets such as cell phones could one day use residual radio signal to supplement their own batteries, but the amounts of energy harvested are small (on the order of 50 milliwatts) and the system won't currently make even small consumer devices self-sustaining. However, if the energy is allowed to build up in a small capacitor, it could temporarily power low-energy intermittent devices like temperature sensors or could supplement other energy-gathering mechanisms like solar panels. Commentary: "Global Race On To Match U.S. Drone Capabilities" [07/05/11] Printer Friendly Version "At the most recent Zhuhai air show, the premier event for China’s aviation industry, crowds swarmed around a model of an armed, jet-propelled drone and marveled at the accompanying display of its purported martial prowess. In a video and map, the thin, sleek drone locates what appears to be a U.S. aircraft carrier group near an island with a striking resemblance to Taiwan and sends targeting information back to shore, triggering a devastating barrage of cruise missiles toward the formation of ships. Little is known about the actual abilities of the WJ-600 drone or the more than two dozen other Chinese models that were on display at Zhuhai in November. But the speed at which they have been developed highlights how U.S. military successes with drones have changed strategic thinking worldwide and spurred a global rush for unmanned aircraft. More than 50 countries have purchased surveillance drones, and many have started in-country development programs for armed versions because no nation is exporting weaponized drones beyond a handful of sales between the United States and its closest allies. “This is the direction all aviation is going,” said Kenneth Anderson, a professor of law at American University who studies the legal questions surrounding the use of drones in warfare. “Everybody will wind up using this technology because it’s going to become the standard for many, many applications of what are now manned aircraft.” Military planners worldwide see drones as relatively cheap weapons and highly effective reconnaissance tools. Hand-launched ones used by ground troops can cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. Near the top of the line, the Predator B, or MQ9-Reaper, manufactured by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, costs about $10.5 million. By comparison, a single F-22 fighter jet costs about $150 million. Defense spending on drones has become the most dynamic sector of the world’s aerospace industry, according to a report by the Teal Group in Fairfax. The group’s 2011 market study estimated that in the coming decade global spending on drones will double, reaching $94 billion. [...]"  Note: This would evolve into something really nasty.

Commentary: "Japanese Researchers: Mother Lode Of Rare Earth Metals In The Pacific Ocean" [07/04/11] Printer Friendly Version "More proof that so-called rare earth elements aren't that rare. A team of scientists from Japan are announcing today the discovery of the rare earth mother lode in the Pacific Ocean. According to a report by Nikkei, the deposits -- which are all around Hawaii, as well as French Polynesia -- dwarf anything on land to the tune of 1000x. And it's not necessarily a fanciful notion that the deposits could be mind: Extracting the deposits requires pumping up portions of the ocean floor. The rare-earth metals can be separated out in several hours. But carrying out such operations in international waters requires the approval of the International Seabed Authority, established under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The Japanese research team will apply to the authority to have the areas certified for mining. If approval is granted, they would be divvied up for development by different countries. " Biological UFO Photographed in Mexico City" [06/30/11] [3:20] "A translucent jellyfish-like UFO with a fiery, glowing tail was photographed "swimming" in the morning skies of Mexico City. The object was photographed using a high-speed zoom lens in January 2009, and revealed in a video released by OpenMinds.tv on June 17. Jason McClellan, Open Minds photographer, captured the images from the rooftop of fellow photographer Arturo Robles Gil's residence. Robles regularly sees mysterious UFOs such as these above Mexico City and invited McClellan's team to document some evidence.  "My initial thought was, 'This might be a weather balloon,' but after only a couple of seconds, I was convinced otherwise," says McClellan in the video. "I can best describe the characteristics and movements of the object as jellyfish-like," he adds. "The object was semi-see through, and it billowed and undulated as it moved." "The translucent object was swimming through the blue sky, changing both shape and color as it moved." McClellan notes that the object had "yellow and white pulsing colors" and conceded that they might have been due to reflection of the sunlight. However, he could not explain how the object kept morphing through red, green, and blue colors. He said that the object looked like it had veins or seemed to have a biological membrane. "I believed I was watching a living creature, not a balloon or a rigid mechanical craft." McClelland said he remembers trembling with both adrenaline and disbelief at what he had just seen. "To this day, I can only describe—but cannot fully explain—what I observed in the sky above Mexico City," he concluded. [...]"

"Shyness: Evolutionary Tactic? (Psycho-Sequentialization of the Population)" [06/29/11] Printer Friendly Version "... Social anxiety disorder did not officially exist until it appeared in that year's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, the DSM-III, the psychiatrist's bible of mental disorders, under the name "social phobia." It was not widely known until the 1990s, when pharmaceutical companies received F.D.A. approval to treat social anxiety with S.S.R.I.'s and poured tens of millions of dollars into advertising its existence.  [...] The DSM inevitably reflects cultural attitudes; it used to identify homosexuality as a disease, too. Though the DSM did not set out to pathologize shyness, it risks doing so, and has twice come close to identifying introversion as a disorder, too. (Shyness and introversion are not the same thing. Shy people fear negative judgment; introverts simply prefer quiet, minimally stimulating environments.) But shyness and introversion share an undervalued status in a world that prizes extroversion.[...]  Children's classroom desks are now often arranged in pods, because group participation supposedly leads to better learning; in one school I visited, a sign announcing "Rules for Group Work" included, "You can't ask a teacher for help unless everyone in your group has the same question." Many adults work for organizations that now assign work in teams, in offices without walls, for supervisors who value "people skills" above all. As a society, we prefer action to contemplation, risk-taking to heed-taking, certainty to doubt. Studies show that we rank fast and frequent talkers as more competent, likable and even smarter than slow ones. This revolutionary energy conversion method is in the early stages of development, but it could have wide-sweeping impact on creating environmentally friendly electricity from waste heat sources. Researchers say the material could potentially be used to capture waste heat from a car’s exhaust that would heat the material and produce electricity for charging the battery in a hybrid car. Other possible future uses include capturing rejected heat from industrial and power plants or temperature differences in the ocean to create electricity. The research team is looking into possible commercialization of the technology. “This research is very promising because it presents an entirely new method for energy conversion that’s never been done before,” said University of Minnesota aerospace engineering and mechanics professor Richard James, who led the research team. The very definition of life on earth is changing right before our eyes. Many scientists believe that genetic modification holds the key to feeding the entire planet and healing all of our diseases, but others are warning that genetic modification could literally transform our environment into a desolate wasteland and cause our world to resemble a really bad science fiction movie. For decades, scientists around the globe have been fooling around with DNA and have been transplanting genes from one species to another. But now technology has advanced so dramatically that just about the only thing limiting scientists are their imaginations. The things you are about to read about below are truly bizarre. In recent years, science has really “pushed the envelope” and scientists all over the planet are quite eager to push it even farther. Since 1930, electric clocks have kept time based on the rate of the electrical current that powers them. If the current slips off its usual rate, clocks run a little fast or slow. Power companies now take steps to correct it and keep the frequency of the current — and the time — as precise as possible. The group that oversees the U.S. power grid is proposing an experiment that would allow more frequency variation than it does now without corrections, according to a company presentation obtained by The Associated Press. Officials say they want to try this to make the power supply more reliable, save money and reduce what may be needless efforts. The test is tentatively set to start in mid-July, but that could change. [...]"

It shows a state of the art home monitoring with cameras around the house and sensors keeping track of energy usage. All this from the touch of someone’s Iphone or lap top computer. Xfinity alerts the parents when kids come home and can see if they are behaving. This may sound good because technology makes all this possible, with remote access a person can dim lights and turn off appliances not in use. All this through a cable TV company that is well known household name nationwide. The  technology can be a two edged sword that can have good use and can be a nightmare too. I have some real reservations about this Xfinity service by Comcast. Why, it is because if I can access my home to see what is going on in my house while I am away. So can other people. With all the abuse going on in government wiretapping phones without warrants and the patriot act with the sneak and peek. The government will love Xfinity because they can access at random people's homes to see what is going on. There are many privacy issues concerning civil liberties about Xfinity. Commentary: "Super EMP" Weapon Capable of Disabling Power Grid Across Lower 48 States" [06/21/11] Printer Friendly Version  "For many years U.S. Intelligence agencies believed that North Korea’s nuclear weapons program was a failure due to the low explosive yield of their tests. According to EMPact America’s President and former CIA nuclear weapons analyst Dr. Peter Vincent Pry, this is not the case:  [...] While North Korea may be the latest country to test such a weapon, it is clear that the technology has been available for nearly 50 years, and it has since been leaked to rogue nations, and perhaps rogue terror and shadow elements with the financing, capability and wherewithal to use it: Such a weapon — equal to a massive solar flare such as the “solar maxima” predicted by NASA to occur in 2012 — poses “substantial risk to equipment and operation of the nation’s power grid and under extreme conditions could result in major long term electrical outages,” said Joseph McClelland of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in Senate testimony last month. Pry said that a group of Russian nuclear weapons scientists approached him in 2004 when he served as staff director of the Commission to Assess the Threat to the United States from Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) Attack, to warn the United States that the technology to make that weapon “had leaked”  .... As we’ve previously reported, such a weapon, or group of weapons strategically detonated at lower altitudes, would completely wipe out the entire US power grid, vehicles, computers, cell phones, and anything else with an electric circuit. The fall- out would be nothing short of apocalyptic. In July of 2010 EMPact America published an overview of the EMP 2010 Conference in which they discussed the threat EMP posed to the nation and the fact that very few people understand how great and imminent it is: …An electromagnetic pulse, or EMP, is a super energetic radio wave that’s immediately harmless to people, but it’ll burn out all the critical electronic systems that sustain human economic activity and human life across vast areas, including the entire continental United States ... The Center for Security Policy, in a report issued last year, has estimated that in the event of a wide-scale EMP attack on the United States, as many as nine out of ten Americans would be dead within one year. What does matter is that very few Americans are prepared for such an outlier. The first 24 – 48 hours after such an occurrence will lead to confusion among the general population as traditional news acquisition sources like television, radio and cell phone networks will be non-functional. Within a matter of days, once people realize the power might not be coming back on and grocery store shelves start emptying, the entire system will begin to delve into chaos. Within 30 days a mass die off will have begun as food supplies dwindle, looters and gangs turn to violent extremes, medicine can’t be restocked and water pump stations fail. “Within a year of that attack, nine out of 10 Americans would be dead, because we can’t support a population of the present size in urban centers and the like without electricity,” said Frank Gaffney, president of the Center for Security Policy. “And that is exactly what I believe the Iranians are working towards.” [...]"  Note: Notice that the propaganda in the article mentions North Korea, and also Iran (so this could be a set up for a false flag) by globalist factions that completely takes out the United States and part of Canada.

Anomalies"Path of the Skinwalker: The Strangest Place on Earth" BY GEORGE KNAPP [06/20/11] Page 2   ".... But run-of-the-mill UFO events don't begin to describe the rich array of unusual phenomena in this area. The Ute Indian tribe has been here far longer than white settlers. Tribal leaders are reluctant to speak to outsiders, but their oral history is replete with examples of strange creatures and sightings. Indian lore refers to some of these beings as Skinwalkers. Other cultures call them shape-shifters, werewolves or Bigfoot. "The Utes take this very seriously," Hicks says. "They think the Skinwalkers are powerful spirits that are here because of a curse that was put on them generations ago by the Navajos. And the center of the whole legend is this ranch. The Utes say the ranch is `the path of the Skinwalker.' Tribe members are strictly forbidden from setting foot on the property. It's been that way for a long time." The ranch in question is a 480-acre spread of rich, well-watered pasture and a few thick patches of tall cottonwoods. It's divided into three sections, each section being a former homestead. Thick brush and a small river are on one side. A rocky, picturesque ridge is on the other side. Skinwalker Ridge is what the Utes call it, according to Hicks. A long dirt road is the only way in or out of the ranch. When rancher Tom Gorman (not his real name) bought the place in 1994, it had been vacant for seven or eight years. Gorman, his wife and two kids were curious about the impressive array of bolts that covered the doors and windows of the main house. There were deadbolts on both sides of the doors. Even the kitchen cabinets had bolts on them. And at both ends of the house, iron stakes and heavy chains had been installed. Gorman guessed the previous tenants had positioned large guard dogs in the front and back of the home, but he had no idea why.  [...]"  Note: An area where a parallel reality is bleeding into ours...

Media and Culture: "Alien Territory: TNT's Survival Saga, 'Falling Skies,' Begins June 19th" [06/18/11] Printer Friendly Version   "In the latest of television's close-encounter stories, TNT's Falling Skies, our alien visitors are clearly not members of the "we come in peace" camp. The series, premiering at 8 p.m. Sunday, is an earnest survival saga in which vastly superior forces arrive to decimate our armies and lay waste to our cities, leaving humanity at the brink of extinction. "It definitely looks bleak for mankind," says Noah Wyle, who stars as a survivor, a college history professor turned resistance leader. Falling Skies differs from most TV alien invasion series -- such as The Invaders, The X-Files, Invasion, Threshold and V -- in that those dramas chronicled the early stages of otherworldly takeovers. But a full-on, apocalyptic assault, until now, has traditionally been the narrative turf of such feature films as War of the Worlds, Independence Day, Mars Attacks! and Battle: Los Angeles. It's rarer still that TV places the story during the aftermath of the attacks: The two-hour premiere of Falling Skies begins six months after we lose control of our world to a race of creepy six-legged villains known as "Skitters." Falling Skies takes this approach because it has a different agenda. It aims to explore themes of family unity, of coping with tragedy, of starting over -- themes that are particularly relevant when millions of financially strapped families have lost everything and when our infrastructure is flirting with collapse. But that is the beauty of science fiction when it is in the hands of talented storytellers, Wyle says.[...]"  "Falling Skies (2011) - Official Trailer" [2:31]  "A new Sci-fi TV Series on TNT. FALLING SKIES opens in the chaotic aftermath of an alien attack that has left most of the world completely incapacitated. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force. "

"UK Village Residents Plagued By Mysterious Unexplained ‘Humming Noise’" [06/11/11] Printer Friendly Version "Now a tiny English village is the latest community to claim to be being hit by the phenomenon known as “the hum.” Residents of Woodland, in County Durham, claim that every night a noise permeates the air similar to the throb of a car engine. It is sometimes so strong that it even shakes the bed of one of the householders. But no matter how hard they look, the community cannot find the source of the problem and, at their wits end, have called in the council to investigate. The 300-strong population is the latest around the world to be hit by the rumble which has in the past led to wild conspiracy theories blaming it on UFOs, government experiments and abandoned mine shafts. It is so widespread that it has even featured on the television show The X Files. It’s most famous occurrence was in Bristol in the 1970s when more than a thousand people complained of the consistent drone causing nosebleeds, sleeplessness and headaches. It vanished as mysteriously as it arrived and was never explained. Residents of Woodland, a community consisting of one main street surrounded by farmland, claims their version of “the hum” is constant from midnight until 4am every night and stops them sleeping. There are no pylons, factories or abandoned mines nearby. The noise started about two months ago and has been plaguing the isolated village every day since. Marylin Grech, 57, a retired store detective, said: “In certain areas of the house you can hear it more loudly. It is definitely from outside, it’s in the air, all around, very faint. “It vibrates through the house. We’ve turned all the electricity off in the house and we can still hear it, so it’s not that. “Sometimes we’ll be in bed and it vibrates right through our bed, like a throbbing. “It’s not tinnitus, that’s a high pitched sound and this is very low. If I put my fingers in my ears it stops, so I know it’s not in my head.  [...]"

"Airborne Anomalies: Rethinking Atmospheric Lifeforms" [06/09/11] Printer Friendly Version  "Most people, when considering the possibilities as to what UFOs might actually be, tend to lean heavily toward the idea of advanced aircraft that are both intelligently designed and controlled. Many reports do indeed appear to indicate that the objects seen appear  mechanical or otherwise “manufactured,” although there are also the occasional reports of rather amorphous “blobs” that seem to have little definite shape or form. Though the range of potentials for how an alien technology might appear to us remains very broad, perhaps there are other possible identities we could attribute to at least some UFO reports.  One unique (though perhaps unlikely) theory proposed a number of times over the years deals with the idea of “atmospheric lifeforms,” as proposed by the likes of Charles Fort, Trevor James Constable, and Ivan Sanderson, among others. Essentially, this approach to various reports of UFOs supposes that some of the sightings might describe strange, atmospheric “beasts” that are essentially self-contained, energetic creatures. Though the multitude of encounters detailing a more technological origin for UFO craft seems to leave little room for any credence to such ideas as “atmospheric beasts,” perhaps engaging in a sort of “though game” with the subject could provide insights or some merit, by virtue of considering airborne anomalies from a less conventional perspective. Generally, the idea of an atmospheric beast in the present context would involve a creature which either weighs less than air in a given atmosphere, or which may be capable of flying by some other means of wingless propulsion. With regard to research into the unexplained, one of the pioneering ufologists to take this approach with the study of unidentified flying craft was Trevor James Constable, a writer and researcher who outlined his ideas in the 1975 book The Cosmic Pulse of Life (somewhat sadly, I interviewed Constable a few years ago, and upon mentioning that I had obtained a copy of this book, he joked with me, “so you were the one who bought a copy!”) Constable’s idea of “critters” (photographs of which can be seen by clicking here) dealt with amoeba-like creatures that existed in Earth’s upper atmosphere, and which occasionally fed on livestock and other creatures, hence seeking to explain some reports of animal mutilations that occur in conjunction with UFO sightings. "U.S. Spies Want Computers To Analyze Metaphors" [06/01/11] Printer Friendly Version "Here’s a linguistic can of worms for you: a U.S. intelligence agency is training computers to analyze metaphors used in foreigners’ conversations to determine if they are a threat to national security. The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), a spy version of DARPA under the director of National Intelligence, is working on something called The Metaphor Program. It’s no 1960s quiz show. The program is meant to “exploit the fact that metaphors are pervasive in everyday talk and reveal the underlying beliefs and worldviews of members of a culture.” Researchers will apparently identify and define metaphors from English, Farsi, Spanish, and Russian texts and compile them into a database. But computers will do most of the work. The first phase of the five-year program will “develop automated tools and techniques for recognizing, defining, and categorizing linguistic metaphors.” Analysts would later compare subjects’ statements to the database to try to determine their intentions. There’s more info in a presentation here (PDF). Project manager Heather McCallum-Bayliss has suggested that words used by Israelis and Palestinians or China and Taiwan to describe world events could be analyzed as an example. Statements by extremist leaders could also be studied for the effect of metaphors on followers. One of the goals of the Metaphor Program is to deliver “a functional prototype that demonstrates the automated handling of data, discovery, and semantic definition of metaphors.” It’s very difficult for natural language processing software to comprehend figurative language, so that will be one tough row to hoe. You could soon be taking part in a novel security programme that can supposedly ‘sense’ whether you are planning to commit a crime. Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST), a US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) programme designed to spot people who are intending to commit a terrorist act, has in the past few months completed its first round of field tests at an undisclosed location in the northeast, Nature has learned.  Like a lie detector, FAST measures a variety of physiological indicators, ranging from heart rate to the steadiness of a person’s gaze, to judge a subject’s state of mind. But there are major differences from the polygraph. FAST relies on non-contact sensors, so it can measure indicators as someone walks through a corridor at an airport, and it does not depend on active questioning of the subject. The tactic has drawn comparisons with the science-fiction concept of ‘pre-crime’, popularized by the film Minority Report, in which security services can detect someone’s intention to commit a crime. Unlike the system in the film, FAST does not rely on a trio of human mutants who can see the future. But the programme has attracted copious criticism from researchers who question the science behind it  [...]"  Related: "Airport Security: Intent To Deceive?"  Printer Friendly Version " ... In response to such concerns, the TSA has commissioned an independent study that it hopes will produce evidence to show that SPOT works, and the DHS is promising rigorous peer review of its technology programme. For critics, however, this is too little, too late. Most credibility-assessment researchers agree that humans are demonstrably poor at face-to-face lie detection. Now scientists at Case Western Reserve University, Carnegie Institution for Science, and Brown University believe there is 100 times more water deep inside the moon than previously believed. On this day, keepers at the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage Trust discover the body for the first time near the refuge’s fence line. This community of 43 chimps has nearly 200 acres to roam, a semi-wild area protected by the fence. The scientists, on site for regularly scheduled research, were alerted and turned on video cameras. At the time we start recording there are 2 or 3 individuals present and in the next 17, 18 minutes there are 36-38 individuals of the 43 actually, at least one time visiting or staying very close to the body for the full 17 minutes. We see the chimpanzees coming together in a very small space, gathering around this body. And we haven’t seen in any other time that we’ve been watching these chimps them all gather in such a small space and be so calm and quiet and motivated to stay near each other or near the body. We can’t say for sure , but they’re grouping together in a way that we’ve never seen before. "  Note: Transcript on page.

"EPA, Army Corps Draft New Clean Water Act Guidelines That Threaten to Seize Control of All Water Supplies" [05/08/11] Printer Friendly Version  "On Wednesday, April 27, the Obama administration’s US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and US Army Corps of Engineers (ACE) jointly released a new draft guidance for the federal Clean Water Act that aims to dramatically expand both the scope of what constitutes a “water source,” as well as the legal power federal agencies can exert over those water sources. If enacted, the proposal will basically allow the EPA and ACE to control any stream, pond, or even puddle that they determine “has a physical, chemical or biological connection” to any larger body of water, which includes even privately-owned water sources. One of the biggest impacts of the guidance will be to reverse previous Supreme Court decisions that have established the proper constitutional limits on the scope of federal government regulatory authority over not only water, but other natural resources. Though it was discovered in 1828, the metal has not been developed as a nuclear fuel until very recently when countries such as Russia, India and China started making plans to build reactors that use it. UK: " Mod 'Agonizes' Over The Ethics Of Killer Robots" [04/18/11] Printer Friendly Version  "Analysis of unmanned aircraft in combat urges Britain to establish policy on 'acceptable machine behaviour' The growing use of unmanned aircraft in combat situations raises huge moral and legal issues, and threatens to make war more likely as armed robots take over from human beings, according to an internal study by the Ministry of Defence. The report warns of the dangers of an "incremental and involuntary journey towards a Terminator-like reality", referring to James Cameron's 1984 movie, in which humans are hunted by robotic killing machines. It says the pace of technological development is accelerating at such a rate that Britain must quickly establish a policy on what will constitute "acceptable machine behaviour". "It is essential that before unmanned systems become ubiquitous (if it is not already too late) … we ensure that, by removing some of the horror, or at least keeping it at a distance, we do not risk losing our controlling humanity and make war more likely," warns the report, titled The UK Approach to Unmanned Aircraft Systems. MoD officials have never before grappled so frankly with the ethics of the use of drones. The report was ordered by Britain's defence chiefs, and coincides with continuing controversy about drones' use in Afghanistan, and growing Pakistani anger at CIA drone attacks against suspected insurgents on the Afghan borders. It states that "the recent extensive use of unmanned aircraft over Pakistan and Yemen may already herald a new era". Referring to descriptions of "killer drones" in Afghanistan, it notes that "feelings are likely to run high as armed systems acquire more autonomy". The insurgents "gain every time a mistake is made", enabling them to cast themselves "in the role of underdog and the west as a cowardly bully that is unwilling to risk his own troops, but is happy to kill remotely", the report adds. "Computer Cursor Can Be Controlled by Thought" [04/10/11] Printer Friendly Version " Advances in mind-reading technology have made it possible for people with disabilities to control a computer cursor using only their thoughts, say Washington University researchers. Volunteers wore a "cap" of electrodes, but researchers believe the same results can be achieved with a much smaller surgical implant. "We can distinguish both spoken sounds and the patient imagining saying a sound, so that means we are truly starting to read the language of thought," the lead researcher says. "The Future Expansion of Unmanned Drones Over The U.S." [04/09/11] Printer Friendly Version [5:37] "In a stark admission, two-star General, John Priddy, from the U.S. National Air Security Operations Center, confirmed in the video below that the continued expansion of predator drone surveillance is a stated goal for the coming years. His comments were echoed by Al Palmer, Director of Unmanned Aircraft Training at the world's largest center at the University of North Dakota, "The world is going to spend $80 billion on unmanned aircraft between now and 2016."  The idea for predator drone surveillance of Americans was kept under wraps until fairly recently. Even after a 2007 local news station in Texas captured drone flight tests on video, it was roundly denied as conspiracy theory that unmanned drones would actually take flight over America. Further investigation revealed that this flight test coincided with a plan already in place to patrol far inland beyond the legal 100-mile security border, also known as the Constitution-free Zone.  Then, early this year, Miami-Dade county openly admitted to ordering a 16-pound T-Hawk micro drone which clearly indicates a move to miniaturize surveillance in order to bring it right into the streets of America, rather than the continued military propaganda stating that unmanned drones will be used only for border control operations. As Dana Gabriel and others have covered, Canada and the U.S. have formed a clear perimeter security and trade alliance which for all practical purposes removes the border between the two countries, thus allowing for drones to go beyond the previous 16-kilometer buffer zone and continue right to the border of Canada. This ultimately allows for coast-to-coast surveillance. Now that we know that "the ultimate goal" is 24-hour eye-in-the-sky surveillance by predator drones within civilian airspace from coast to coast, do we believe General Priddy when he asserts that this technology will be applied to "search and rescue" missions during natural disasters? Or, rather, should we be asking if the next logical step is for these drones to be weaponized? [...]"

"Stunray Disables Your Brain With Inverse Blindness" [04/05/11] Printer Friendly Version "Until we figure out how to make a phaser that can be set to stun, we’ve been stuck with non less-lethal options like tasers (which can kill) and laser dazzlers (which can cause eye damage). StunRay is basically just a big flashlight, except with the ability to disable you by causing “inverse blindness.” If you’re wondering what inverse blindness looks like, it’s easy to do to yourself: just stare at a bright light for a minute or two and then look around. It’s not dark, really, but you can’t see anything very well, and it’s because the exposure to bright light has overloaded the neurons that connect your retinas to your brain, and mostly all you can see is a featureless white expanse. The technical term for this is “loss of contrast sensitivity,” and it’s an effective way of disabling someone. A company called Genesis Illumination is working what’s basically a giant fancy flashlight called StunRay that can inflict this loss of contrast sensitivity or inverse blindness or neural overload or whatever you want to call it on people at long range in a split second. Each burst of super bright light incapacitates subjects for five seconds or so without causing any pain, and subjects fully recover in about five minutes. The “fully recover” bit is key, since StunRay won’t roast your eyeballs like a laser dazzler can. StunRay uses a 75 watt bulb, which doesn’t seem like much, but with some fancy optics, the device is able to focus its light beam to be ten times brighter than an aircraft landing light, even up to 150 feet away. And in case you were wondering, and I’m sure you were, this is bright enough to read a newspaper from a mile away.
Genesis Illumination just received a patent for StunRay, so in the near future, we’ll be able to rely on one single device for both our disabling and long distance newspaper-reading needs. [...]"

He was 72 and lived in Ashland, Ore.  His death, from peritonitis, was announced on the Web site of the Foundation for the Law of Time, an organization he founded. The group seeks to rescind the modern Gregorian calendar, which Mr. Argüelles deemed dangerous, and replace it with one rooted in ancient astronomy. His philosophy was an eclectic amalgam of Mayan and Aztec cosmology, the I Ching, the Book of Revelation, ancient-astronaut narratives and more. It was united by an urgent concern with time — in particular with the way time is parceled out in modern industrial societies. The root of all world ills, Mr. Argüelles believed, was the Gregorian calendar. Introduced in the late 16th century, it chopped the year artificially into months of varying lengths. This, he said, left modern man out of synch with the natural order of things, resulting in war, conflict and general turpitude. Mr. Argüelles’s work was generally derided by scholars. But he was widely credited with focusing the popular imagination on the Mayan calendar — a complex astronomical and mathematical system whose workings were formerly the province of academics — and in particular on 2012 as the year in which something very big and quite possibly unwelcome might happen. "Goce Satellite Maps The Earth's Gravity With Unprecedented Precision" [04/01/11] Printer Friendly Version [0:53] "Data from Europe's gravity-mapping satellite Goce is being used to investigate the geological processes that cause earthquakes A European spacecraft that skims the upper reaches of the atmosphere has mapped Earth's gravity with unrivalled precision. The map shows how the pull of gravity varies minutely over the surface of the Earth, from deep ocean trenches to majestic mountain ranges. The measurements have allowed scientists to create a computer model called a geoid that reveals what Earth would look like if its shape were altered to make gravity equal at every point on the surface. [...] Data from the five-metre-long spacecraft will be crucial for understanding sea level changes, shifts in ice flows and how ocean currents – which are driven by gravity – respond as the planet warms over the next few decades. "'Holy Grail' of science, world's first practical 'artificial leaf' unveiled" [03/30/11] Printer Friendly Version "Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have finally developed the world's first practical artificial leaf that can split water into hydrogen and oxygen using sunlight at an economical cost, thereby achieving one of the milestones in the drive for sustainable energy. They have described an advanced solar cell the size of a poker card that mimics the process, called photosynthesis, that green plants use to convert sunlight and water into energy.... About the shape of a poker card but thinner, the device is fashioned from silicon, electronics and catalysts, substances that accelerate chemical reactions that otherwise would not occur, or would run slowly. Placed in a single gallon of water in a bright sunlight, the device could produce enough electricity to supply a house in a developing country with electricity for a day, said Nocera. It does so by splitting water into its two components, hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen and oxygen gases would be stored in a fuel cell, which uses those two materials to produce electricity, located either on top of the house or beside it. The new leaf is made of inexpensive materials that are widely available, works under simple conditions and is highly stable. In laboratory studies, Nocera showed that an artificial leaf prototype could operate continuously for at least 45 hours without a drop in activity. Right now, Nocera's leaf is about 10 times more efficient at carrying out photosynthesis than a natural leaf. [...]"

Commentary: "HAARP Magnetometer data shows Japan earthquake was induced." [03/22/11] Printer Friendly Version "The US Air Force and Navy has provided a visual insight into what caused the 9.0 magnitude off of Japan on March 11, 2011 at 05:46:23 UTC. The image above was downloaded from the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP*) website. It is a time-frequency spectrogram, which shows the frequency content of signals recorded by the HAARP Induction Magnetometer. This instrument, provided by the University of Tokyo, measures temporal variations in the geomagnetic field (Earth’s magnetosphere) in the ULF (ultra-low frequency) range of 0-5 Hz. Notions have been added to the image to show you what was happening the day the Japan earthquake and tsunami struck.  By looking at the accompanying HAARP spectrum chart above you can see when the 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck – red line drawn vertically – and what was happening before and after the earthquake. What you can also see is a constant ULF frequency of 2.5 Hz being recorded by the magnetometer. The ULF 2.5 Hz frequency is evidence of an induced earthquake. The chart recorded this constant before, during and after the 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck.  On March 11, 2011 the 2.5 Hz ULF frequency was being emitted and recorded from 0:00 hours to about 10:00 hours – or for 10 hours. We know for a fact that the Japan earthquake lasted only a few minutes so why was the earthquake signature frequency (2.5 Hz) being recorded for 10 hours on the morning of March 11, 2011? Because a HAARP phased array antenna system was broadcasting (transmitting) the 2.5Hz ULF frequency and it triggered the Japan earthquake and ensuing tsunami. “Researchers say they have found a close link between electrical disturbances on the edge of our atmosphere and impending quakes on the ground below.”—BBC .  If you go to HAARP’s official website you can see for yourself that the 2.5 Hz ULF frequency wasn’t only being broadcated for 10 hours, it was constantly being broadcasted for 2 days prior to the earthquake. Broadcasting began on March 8, 2011, just before midnight as you can see on HAARP’s website page. Click on the Next Day link to see that the earthquake inducing 2.5 Hz ULF frequency was being broadcasted for the entire days of March 9, 2011 and March 10, 2011. Even though the signature frequency of an earthquake was shown throughout March 9 and March 10 there were no constant earthquakes occurring off the east coast of Japan. "Shockwave-Generating Wave Discs Could Replace Internal Combustion Engines" [03/20/11] Printer Friendly Version "Michigan researchers have built a prototype of a new auto motor that does away with pistons, crankshafts and valves, replacing the old internal combustion engine with a disc-shaped shock wave generator. It could slash the weight of hybrid cars and reduce auto emissions by 90 percent.  The generator is about the size of a saucepot, and would replace the 1,000-pound power train in most cars — no transmission, cooling system, emissions regulation or fluids needed. Norbert Müller and colleagues at Michigan State University showed off the new motor prototype at a meeting with the Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency. It consists of a rotor carved with wave-like channels. Fuel and air enter through central inlets, and the rotor spins to block their exit through a separate outlet. The sudden build-up of pressure generates a shock wave, compressing the mixture. Then it’s ignited, and as the rotor keeps spinning, the outlet opens again to let the hot gases escape. New Scientist explains in further detail. The novel generator would use about 60 percent of fuel for propulsion, according to MSU. This is a dramatic improvement over typical car engines, which use only 15 percent of fuel for forward movement. The system could also make cars 20 percent lighter, improving fuel economy even more. MSU received a $2.5 million ARPA-E grant to develop the technology. Müller said he hopes to have an even larger 25-kilowatt prototype by the end of this year. [...]"  More PDF

"Massive UFO event in Russia: Crashed Disk? " [03/19/11] Printer Friendly Version  "A UFO event of Roswell proportions has taken place in Russia and is being ignored by Western media. On March 1 in the Irkutsk region of Siberia, a huge object, glowing pink and blue according to some accounts, was seen by thousands of locals as it hurtled towards Earth. An enormous explosion was then heard over a wide area. Curious and frightened residents inundated various police and rescue departments with phone calls. The military soon confirmed that it had not been doing any exercises in the area and therefore cannot be responsible for any reports of UFOs.  One villager, Mr Sergei Ivanov, described what he saw: “It did not look like an aircraft, more like a UFO or some other unexplained object”. Soon a large array of officials inundated the area: Army chiefs, Air Defense personnel, Ministry of Defense officials, heads of police, Emergency Ministry staff, geophysicists, avionics experts and members of the secret service. These officials made their way towards site of the alleged crash, declared the event classified and announced to the media that the specific area of impact would not be revealed. Meanwhile a sizable number of journalists arrived in the region and fanned out to the area’s various settlements in search of witnesses: And they found them in the hundreds. Some locals blamed the event on a alien UFO base said to exist beneath Lake Baikal. Others talked of intense UFO activity leading up up the event. The head of a primary school in the town of Vasilevka recounted how she saw a giant pyramid shaped UFO in the skies above the area in June 2010. The mayor of the village of Bayanday, Anatoly Tabinaev, talked of a giant flying saucer that shot a ray of light onto the ground near his house. Another group of residents talked about an odd object that “crashed” near the village leaving behind only mysterious footprints. Flashback: "HAARP and Earthquakes" July 19, 2009 [03/19/11] [7:03] "Researchers into the potential for earthquake creation cite HAARP and its various counterpart arrays around the world as a principal theory for recent mega-quakes such as those in Haiti, Chile, and now Japan. HAARP is a billion watt microwave that bounces frequencies off the ionosphere. Admitted functions are for ground penetrating radar, which some believe is a dangerous application that involves using frequencies that can disrupt the Earth’s natural magnetic field. In fact, the Department of Defense gave a briefing on the subject while discussing weapons of mass destruction in 1997. As observable evidence of such atmospheric tampering, researchers point to the correlations between visual anomalies such as colorful light displays and a characteristic wave pattern with a “punch hole” evident in cloud formations associated with these recent mega-quakes. [...] The United States has three ionospheric heating facilities: the HAARP, the HIPAS, near Fairbanks, Alaska, and (currently offline for modifications) one at the Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico. The European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association (EISCAT) operates an ionospheric heating facility, capable of transmitting over 1 GW (1,000,000,000 watts) effective radiated power (ERP), near Tromsø in Norway. Russia has the Sura ionospheric heating facility, in Vasilsursk near Nizhniy Novgorod, capable of transmitting 190 MW ERP. Another site, operated by military sub-contractor under unknown arrangement between the US and Canadian government, is located near Cape Race, Newfoundland, Canada, at N46° 38.649' W53° 9.010' There is minimal or no grid power available at this site, so this may be a passive listening post for the transmissions emitted by other HAARP sites. Explorations: "Mega-Earthquake, HAARP and The Benjamin Fulford Predictions" [03/18/11] Printer Friendly Version Video clip [9:52]  "As reported by Spanish researcher (former intelligence agent) whose nickname is "John Doe", the recent mega-earthquake of 9.0 Richter º happened today in Japan, have been caused by HAARP, an alleged weapon capable of generating earthquakes , tsunamis and hurricanes. HAARP consists of several facilities in Alaska (United States). From there you emit electromagnetic pulses into the upper atmosphere, which bounce off the ionosphere and then these pulses are directed to locations previously chosen.  According to background information provided by Doe, there has been a high activity throughout the day, in three of the HAARP facilities (see chart on the photos above). While these are not conclusive evidence, the European researcher argues that there is some evidence that indeed the culprit was the U.S. tool and not the last solar flare that was recorded recently. Such indications are that HAARP three facilities that are working in unison, are the same that fired on all cylinders prior to the earthquake in China recalled in 2008. In addition, Doe cites statements made by the Canadian journalist (Japanese citizen), Benjamin Fulford, who reported this year that the Japanese government was threatened by the "Illuminati" with a "machine for earthquakes" if it did not accede to their demands. This information was provided, he said, by none other former finance minister of Japan, Heizo Takenaka. For Fulford, the tsunami in Indonesia, the cyclone in Myanmar and the earthquake in China, are linked to political and economic reasons that have led the Secret Government with absolute power in the U.S. materialize its threats against those countries. A Swedish company wants to make burials more eco-friendly, and they're doing it by freezing dead people in liquid nitrogen, shattering them into dust with focused sound waves, and then sucking all the leftover moisture out with a vacuum.  Traditional funerals are apparently pretty bad for the environment. Embalming fluid is toxic stuff. Coffins are often made of metal, which doesn't biodegrade, or wood finished with nasty chemicals. Tons of concrete are often poured into the ground to create a stable vault and protect against zombies. And even the cremation route uses scads of energy and releases mercury into the atmosphere.  A Swedish company called Promessa has come up with a crazy new way of handling the remains of the deceased, and it's straight out of science fiction. First, a body is chilled down to 18 degrees Celsius. Then it's entirely submerged in liquid nitrogen, which freezes it solid, and makes it brittle enough that it can be shattered and pulverized into dust using high power sound waves. Next, the dust (which is still about the same mass as the body was) is exposed to a vacuum which boils off all the moisture contained in the dust, reducing its mass by 70% or so. Lastly, all of the inorganic stuff that may be left over is removed with an electromagnet, and the dust is placed in a coffin made of corn starch, all ready for a shallow burial that'll turn everything into compost within a year. Of course, this whole process is fairly complicated and certainly takes some amount of energy to perform on its own, but at the very least the end product is a bit better for the planet than some more traditional methods. Plus, unlike burial or cremation, it's also guaranteed to destroy killer robots. [...]"

"Thorium Reactors Cannot Melt Down, And Cannot Be Used To Make Bombs" [03/14/11] Printer Friendly Version  "... Thorium reactors would be cheap. The primary cost in nuclear reactors traditionally is the huge safety requirements. Regarding meltdown in a thorium reactor, Rubbia writes, “Both the EA and MF can be effectively protected against military diversions and exhibit an extreme robustness against any conceivable accident, always with benign consequences. In particular the [beta]-decay heat is comparable in both cases and such that it can be passively dissipated in the environment, thus eliminating the risks of “melt-down”. Thorium reactors can breed uranium-233, which can theoretically be used for nuclear weapons. However, denaturing thorium with its isotope, ionium, eliminates the proliferation threat.  [...]"  Related: "Thorium Fuel Cycle"  Printer Friendly Version  "The thorium fuel cycle is a nuclear fuel cycle that uses the naturally abundant isotope of thorium, 232Th, as the fertile material which is transmuted into the fissile artificial uranium isotope 233U which is the nuclear fuel. However, unlike natural uranium, natural thorium contains only trace amounts of fissile material (such as 231Th), and these are insufficient to initiate a nuclear chain reaction. Thus, some fissile material or other neutron source must be supplied to initiate the fuel cycle. In a thorium- fueled reactor, 232Th will absorb neutrons eventually to produce 233U, which is similar to the process in uranium-fueled reactors whereby fertile 238U absorbs neutrons to form fissile 239Pu. Depending on the design of the reactor and fuel cycle, the 233U generated is either utilized in situ or chemically separated from the used nuclear fuel and used in new nuclear fuel.  The thorium fuel cycle claims several potential advantages over a uranium fuel cycle, including greater abundance, superior physical and nuclear properties of fuel, enhanced proliferation resistance, and reduced plutonium and actinide production. Natural World: "6 More Varieties Of Zombie Ant Fungus Discovered By Scientists" [03/03/11] Printer Friendly Version "Four newly discovered species of fungus turn carpenter ants into zombie ants to help them spread their spores. The deepest reaches of the Brazilian jungle harbor some of the most dangerous life on Earth, but the ants in the rainforest face an enemy more sinister than most. On a recent field trip to the region, scientists discovered four new species of fungus that infect ants, take over their bodies and eventually kill them in a place that is just right for the organism to grow inside them. The fungus can destroy entire colonies and leave behind gruesome ant graveyards, where twisted, dark corpses rest with their mandibles locked around leaf veins, a final act that secures the creature’s host in position before it releases spores to infect others. David Hughes at Penn State University and Harry Evans at the Centre for Agriculture and Biosciences International in Surrey identified the four species of Ophiocordyceps fungus while working in the Atlantic rainforest in Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. The lifecycle of the organism is extraordinary. Ants become infected with the fungus when spores land on them from above, or when they encounter them on the forest floor. Once attached, the spores use enzymes to get inside the ant’s body where the fungus begins to grow. Within a week or so, chemicals released by the fungus cause the ant to wander off and bite on to leaf veins and other vegetation, moments before dying. Many ants are found in places where the conditions are perfect for fungal growth. Once the ant has died, the fungus slowly sprouts from its head and grows a pod of spores which are fired onto the forest floor at night, to infect other ants. The scientists have found six more species of the fungus in Cairns, Australia, home to some of the oldest rainforests on Earth.  [...]"

UK: "Child Brain Scans To Pick Out Future Criminals" [03/02/11] "The seeds of criminal and anti-social behaviour can be found in children as young as three, scientists have claimed. More researchers believe that violent tendencies have a biological basis and that tests and brain imaging can pick them up in children. They argue that, by predicting which children have the potential to be trouble, treatments could be introduced to keep them on the straight and narrow. If the tests are accurate enough then a form of screening could be introduced in the same way we test for some diseases.  The theories were put forward by two leading criminologists at the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington. Prof Adrian Raine, a British criminologist, argued that abnormal physical brain make-up could be a cause of criminality, as well as helping to predict it. His studies have shown that psychopaths and criminals have smaller areas of the brain such as the amygdala and prefrontal cortex, both of which regulate and control emotion and behaviour. He also believes that a lack of conditioning to fear punishment, which can be measured in toddlers before disruptive behaviour is apparent, could also be a strong indicator. Dr Nathalie Fontaine, who also spoke at the conference, argued that children as young as four exhibited “callous unemotional traits” such as lack of guilt and empathy that could also suggest future bad behaviour. Linking these features with “conduct problems” such as throwing tantrums could be a strong way to predict who could be anti-social in later life. Both speakers said that identifying these issues earlier could be important in stopping children from becoming criminals.  [...]"  Note: Early culling of society ... degenerate science.  What about the current psychopaths who have control of military power and mass-media? "Meat-Growing Researcher Suspended" [02/26/11] "A scientist involved in efforts to lab-grow meat for consumption, and human organs for medicine, has been suspended and his lab closed pending a "human resources" investigation. Vladimir Mironov was put on indefinite paid leave by the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston on Friday 11 February for "a series of issues". Mironov was part of a team working on a US$20-million National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to help build capacity in South Carolina in 'biofabrication' — building organs for medical use by 'printing' out biological material. The money is going towards hiring people and building research infrastructure, says the University of South Carolina's vice-president of research Stephen Kresovich, who administers the grant. The university says the grant is not affected by Mironov's suspension. Mironov, who was slated to be director of a new Advanced Tissue Biofabrication Center in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology at MUSC, was helping to coordinate some of grant distribution. An official statement from MUSC's public-affairs spokewoman Heather Woolwine says that "Mironov's conceptual vision for biofabrication was important in developing the concept of the [NSF] Project." [...] The lab closure mostly affects Mironov's other research focus: trying to grow meat in the lab — a goal that some scientists think could help to feed the world's growing population with less strain on the environment (see 'A taste of things to come?'). Mironov, like others in the same field, has had trouble getting funding for that work — he had a $25,000 grant years ago from the animal-rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which is interested in the prospect of producing meat without killing livestock. He has worked with turkey cells in his lab, has come up with a novel idea for how to exercise lab-grown muscle and says he has designed a better bioreactor, although the details are not public. [...] Mironov is renowned for his colourful and forceful support of in-vitro meat technologies, and has been featured in many media reports on the topic, including the Colbert Report, a satirical US television show. His vision of the future includes massive bioreactors churning out meat for densely-populated cities, and a brand of expensive 'nutraceutical' meat, providing both nutritional and medical benefits, for Hollywood celebrities. Now Mironov's future is unclear. "My research is blocked. They say I am unstable. It has become surrealistic," he says. "  Note:  That's for sure.

"Scientists Build First Anti-Laser" [02/18/11] "Physicists have built the world's first device that can cancel out a laser beam - a so-called anti-laser. The device, created by a team from Yale University, is capable of absorbing an incoming laser beam entirely. But this is not intended as a defence against high-power laser weapons, the researchers said. Instead they think it could be used in next-generation supercomputers which will be built with components that use light rather than electrons. Professor Douglas Stone and colleagues at Yale University had initially been developing a theory to explain which materials could be used as the basis of lasers. [...]"  Note: So much for laser-guided munitions ... once this got out. facilities could have anti-laser absorption defense systems ....

According to Russian scientists, in the year 2036, the Apophis asteroid and the Earth may have a date to meet. The report came from UPI, saying that Leonid Sokolov of St. Petersburg State University estimated the asteroid will hit the planet on April 13, 2036. The asteroid has made headlines before as scientists have been keeping a wary eye on the rock two football fields in size hurtling through space since its discovery in 2004 and forecast its near miss in 2029, only to return and hit the earth as it exits the "keyhole" some 7 years later.  [...]"  Note:  Well, we will have all been gone for some time by the time this happens. Its orbit would be thousands of times further from the Sun than the Earth's - which could explain why it has so far remained undiscovered. Data which could prove the existence of Tyche, a gas giant in the outer Oort Cloud, is set to be released later this year - although some believe proof has already been garnered by Nasa with its pace telescope, Wise, and is waiting to be pored over. Prof Daniel Whitmire from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette believes the data may prove Tyche's existence within two years. So, they can take the Oort Cloud and stick it where the Sun don't shine, I guess, astronomically speaking.

Nature: "Bacteria In Mouse Gut Affect Development And Behaviour" [02/03/11] "The teeming trillions of bacteria in the digestive tracts of mice have been shown to affect the animals' brain development and behaviour.  Mice bred in sterile environments without these "gut flora" were seen to be more adventurous and less anxious than mice with normal gut flora. The research adds weight to the idea that gut bacteria are a critical part of the overall development of mammals. The study is published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Gut flora were once thought to be harmless residents of the guts of mammals, and in time it became clear that they not only aid in digestion but also protect against the arrival of more harmful invaders. But research in recent years has shown an increasingly complex picture in which the bugs play significant roles in several critical bodily systems, having already been implicated in obesity, asthma, and liver function. "Germ-free" mice, born without the bugs and protected from their arrival, have shown a number of effects distinct from mice born in the normal way. [...]"    Related: Study: Cat Parasite Affects Human Culture Mind-controlling Protozoan [10/08/10] " A mind-controlling parasite might sound like the stuff of science fiction, but the protozoan known as Toxoplasma gondii is all too real. To hop from rats to cats, its primary host, Toxoplasma makes the rodents become attracted to cat pee, increasing the chance they'll become cat   food. Disturbingly, the germ also infects more than half the world's human population, and could make people more prone to some forms of neuroticism, shaping entire cultures, researchers have suggested. Infection by a Toxoplasma gondii could make some individuals more prone to some forms of neuroticism and could lead to differences among cultures if enough people are infected, says Kevin Lafferty, a U.S. Geological Survey scientist at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In a survey of different countries, Lafferty found that people living in those with higher rates of T. gondii infection scored higher on average for neuroticism, defined as an emotional or mental disorder characterized by high levels of anxiety, insecurity or depression. [...] T. gondii infects both wild and domestic cats, but it is carried by many warm-blooded mammals. One recent study showed that the parasite makes normally cautious rats outgoing and more prone to engage in reckless behavior, such as hanging around areas frequently marked by cat urine, making the rats easy targets.  Scientists estimate that the parasite has infected about 3 billion people, or about half of the human population. Studies by researchers in the Czech Republic have suggested T. gondii might have subtle but long-term effects on its human hosts. The parasite is thought to have different, and often opposite effects in men versus women, but both genders appear to develop a form of neuroticism called "guilt proneness." Other studies have also found links between the parasite and schizophrenia. T. gondii infection is known to damage astrocytes, support cells in the brain that are also affected during schizophrenia. Pregnant women with high levels of antibodies to the parasite are also more likely to give birth to children who will develop the disorder.  In light of such studies, Lafferty wondered whether high rates of T. gondii infection in a culture could shift the average personality of its individuals.  "In populations where this parasite is very common, mass personality modification could result in cultural change," Lafferty said.  The distribution of T. gondii could explain differences in cultural aspects that relate to ego, money, material possessions, work and rules, Lafferty added. In some countries, infections by the cat parasite are very rare, while in others nearly all adults are infected."

Fringe Research: "The Huangshang Mountains: Electrically Formed?" [01/29/11] "Scientists tell us that Earth's geology has been shaped over million of years. Millions of years might actually be involved in forming the topography we see. But if that is the case, then there are anomalies that occasionally surface. For example, there appear to be eyewitness accounts in myths and legends that refer to massive geological processes. Rather than the slow processes of plate tectonics, wind, and weather there is another process that can cause exactly the same events but in an almost instantaneous period: electric discharge, or "spark machining." Electric currents might once have flowed through Earth's conductive strata with energies like nothing we know today. Evidence can be found on Earth and throughout the Solar System. [...]"

"Air laser could find bombs at a distance" [01/29/11] "U.S. scientists say a new "air laser" will allow soldiers to detect hidden explosives from a distance and help scientists measure airborne pollutants.  Researchers at Princeton University say they've developed a technique for generating a beam of laser light out of nothing but air, a university release said Friday. "We are able to send a laser pulse out and get another pulse back from the air itself," says Richard Miles, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Princeton. "The returning beam interacts with the molecules in the air and carries their fingerprints."  Unlike previous remote laser-sensing methods, in which the returning beam of light is just a reflection of the outgoing beam, the "air laser" creates an entirely new laser beam generated by oxygen atoms whose electrons have been "excited" to high energy levels. Using an ultraviolet laser pulse focused on a tiny patch of air, similar to the way a magnifying glass focuses sunlight into a hot spot, oxygen atoms in the hot spot become excited as their electrons get pumped up to high energy levels, eventually creating a coherent laser beam aimed straight back at the original laser, researchers say. "In general, when you want to determine if there are contaminants in the air you need to collect a sample of that air and test it," Miles said. "But with remote sensing you don't need to do that. If there's a bomb buried on the road ahead of you, you'd like to detect it by sampling the surrounding air, much like bomb-sniffing dogs can do, except from far away." [...]"

DNA molecules can 'teleport', Nobel Prize winner claims [01/27/11] "A Nobel Prize winning biologist has ignited controversy after publishing details of an experiment in which a fragment of DNA appeared to ‘teleport’ or imprint itself between test tubes. According to a team headed by Luc Montagnier, previously known for his work on HIV and AIDS, two test tubes, one of which contained a tiny piece of bacterial DNA, the other pure water, were surrounded by a weak electromagnetic field of 7Hz.  Eighteen hours later, after DNA amplification using a polymerase chain reaction, as if by magic the DNA was detectable in the test tube containing pure water. Oddly, the original DNA sample had to be diluted many times over for the experiment to work, which might explain why the phenomenon has not been detected before, assuming that this is what has happened. Rossi also says that they have had one reactor that has run continually for two years, providing heat for a factory. Also, the reactors can self sustain by turning off the input, but they prefer to have an input. The device will be scheduled for maintenance every six months. "The Rosenhan Study: On Being Sane in Insane Places"  [01/13/11] "If sanity and insanity exist, how shall we know them? The question is neither capricious nor itself insane. However much we may be personally convinced that we can tell the normal from the abnormal, the evidence is simply not compelling. It is commonplace, for example, to read about murder trials wherein eminent psychiatrists for the defense are contradicted by equally eminent psychiatrists for the prosecution on the matter of the defendant's sanity. More generally, there are a great deal of conflicting data on the reliability, utility, and meaning of such terms as "sanity," "insanity," "mental illness," and "schizophrenia" [1]. Finally, as early as 1934, {Ruth} Benedict suggested that normality and abnormality are not universal. [2] What is viewed as normal in one culture may be seen as quite aberrant in another. Thus, notions of normality and abnormality may not be quite as accurate as people believe they are. To raise questions regarding normality and abnormality is in no way to question the fact that some behaviors are deviant or odd. Murder is deviant. So, too, are hallucinations. Nor does raising such questions deny the existence of the personal anguish that is often associated with "mental illness." Anxiety and depression exist. Psychological suffering exists. But normality and abnormality, sanity and insanity, and the diagnoses that flow from them may be less substantive than many believe them to be. [...]"  Related"Modern Psychiatry - The 'Thud' Experiment" "The Rosenhan experiment (also known as the the 'Thud' experiment, was a famous investigation into the validity of psychiatric diagnosis conducted by psychologist David Rosenhan in 1973. It was published in the journal Science under the title "On being sane in insane places." Rosenhan's study was conducted in two parts. The first part involved the use of healthy associates or "pseudopatients" who briefly simulated auditory hallucinations in an attempt to gain admission to 12 different psychiatric hospitals in five different states in various locations in the United States. All were admitted and diagnosed with psychiatric disorders. After admission, the pseudopatients acted normally and told staff that they felt fine and had not experienced any more hallucinations. Hospital staff failed to detect a single pseudopatient, and instead believed that all of the pseudopatients exhibited symptoms of ongoing mental illness. Several were confined for months. Despite constantly and openly taking extensive notes on the behavior of the staff and other patients, none of the pseudopatients were identified as impostors by the hospital staff, although many of the other psychiatric patients seemed to be able to correctly identify them as impostors. In the first three hospitalizations, 35 of the total of 118 patients expressed a suspicion that the pseudopatients were sane, with some suggesting that the patients were researchers or journalists investigating the hospital. All were forced to admit to having a mental illness and agree to take antipsychotic drugs as a condition of their release. The second part involved asking staff at a psychiatric hospital to detect fake patients that Rosenhan agreed to send. After a month, the staff identified large numbers of ordinary patients as impostors. Rosenhan then revealed that he had not sent any fake patients. "NASA's Alien Anomalies Caught on Film - Part 1" [10:00] " [01/09/11]  Part 2 [10:00] "This compilation includes many of my favorite NASA UFO encounters/ sightings that I have archived over the years. All of these examples (with the exception of the second-to-last one) were captured on film by NASA astronauts or Russian Cosmonauts over the past half-century - showing many amazing examples from different eras - Gemini, Apollo, Apollo/Soyuz Test Project, Skylab, STS, the ISS, plus a couple Russian-source additions from their unmanned Zond and Mir Space Station programs as well thrown in to round things out. The second last example is the only one in the compilation that features footage that was not taken in space and is not official-source (NASA or Soviet/Russian Space Agency). That clip shows an LTP (Lunar Transient Phenomenon) event captured through a camera connected to the eyepiece of a terrestrial-based telescope that luckily was being focused on the Moon at the time. In this case, the LTP manifests as an object transiting across the face of the lunar disc. Many thanks to amateur astronomer Alberto Mayer of Italy for doing a wonderful job of filming this stunning event (and for stacking the footage for us all to see). While the examples you will see here captured on film can all be "officially" classified as "unidentified" objects, that absolutely does NOT mean that NASA, the DoD, and certain elements within the scientific community worldwide are completely in the dark as to what these things you are seeing are. Make no mistake: The Powers That Be are indeed aware of far more about our mysterious Universe than they are ever willing to admit to us. We, the plebeian masses of this planet, are being held in a state of enforced ignorance, deemed not worthy of knowing the full truth by those who are REALLY "running the show" down here on Earth. As this video shows over and over again however, there are indeed snippets of that amazing truth that have been left scattered about the official government archives over the decades, there for us to find so we may begin to educate ourselves about what is the most monumental coverup in human history - where the only thing more incredible than the lies is the truth! Also, be sure to check out Jose Escamilla's new motion picture documentary "MOON RISING", where we go into much further depth about what is, without exaggeration, the most monumental coverup in human history. "J.P. Morgan killed Tesla’s free-energy development" [01/08/11] " ... In 1900, Morgan financed inventor Nikola Tesla and his Wardenclyffe Tower with $150,000 for experiments in radio. However, in 1903, when the tower structure was near completion, J. P. Morgan threw a wrench in the project’s completion when Morgan wanted to know “Where can I put the meter?” Tesla had no answer. Tesla’s vision of free power did not agree with Morgan’s corporate view; nor would it pay for the maintenance of the transmission system. Construction costs eventually exceeded the money provided by Morgan, and additional financiers were reluctant to come forth. By July 1904, Morgan (and the other investors) finally decided they would not provide any additional financing. Morgan also advised other investors to avoid the project.
