MSM: "LAPD To Crack Down On Use Of Unmanned Drones By Real Estate Agents" [02/07/12] "The Los Angeles Police Department is warning real estate agents not to use images of properties taken from unmanned aircraft, saying the flying drones pose a potential safety hazard and could violate federal aviation policy. The warning was issued this week after officers saw a television news report showing a basketball-sized object with multiple rotors hovering over an expansive Westside residence. Real estate agents have been posting aerial photos and video of homes for sale in the Los Angeles area, according to the LAPD. The pictures have been taken from several hundred feet off the ground in the city’s crowded airspace — an altitude at which police helicopters often fly. [...]"

Commentary: "The Push Toward A Snitch Culture: New App Enables "Fast, Discrete, And Intelligent" Anonymous "Crime Reporting" [02/06/12] "In yet another Smartphone-related push to increase the intensity of the global police state, a “new” company, CrimePush, has released a smartphone app that will allow individuals greater ability to report “crimes” in real time. The CrimePush app, which is now available on iTunes, is being touted as “the latest in mobile technology to provide urban populations with fast, discrete, and intelligent safety assistance.” This follows on the heels of similar Big Brother apps such as PatriotApp, which merged phones with American security and law enforcement agencies via the Internet, allowing for one-touch reporting of suspicious activities that could be perceived as threats to the Homeland. Essentially, after the free app is downloaded, one need only access the app in order to record and report a crime to police. As Anushay Hossein of Forbes describes, “A package of information including the location of the crime, photo, video, audio, and text description of the crime are sent to authorities immediately. The application also allows for users to report crime anonymously so that they may continue with their busy lives knowing that with a push of a button, police will know and have everything to pursue the criminal. [...] Does anyone seriously believe that a society where ordinary citizens are the eyes and ears of authorities, and informants are given better tools, is one that we should look forward to? Hasn't history already taught us where this leads? Although CrimePush is currently available for download, its mass implementation is not likely to be left merely to the market. CrimePush has plans to partner at the enterprise level with law enforcement agencies, colleges and universities, high schools, and international mobile carriers. Already the company has developed relationships with the Washington DC’s Metropolitan Police Department, several Washington, DC universities, as well as the school boards of Fairfax and Loudoun Counties.  According to the Forbes report, the first “customized safety application” released for sale will be developed for George Mason University. Releases for High Schools in Loudoun county, the fastest growing county in the nation, is scheduled for Spring.[...]"  

MSM: "Garage Door Openers Stop Working On Entire Missouri Block" [02/06/12] "It’s a puzzling phenomenon: On one street in St. Charles County, garage door openers have stopped working. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that no one knows what exactly is going on at Westhampton View Court. The garage door openers at all five homes on the court stopped working shortly after Christmas. There is so much radio frequency pollution now,” Butch Martin, owner of Martin Door Co., told the paper. “Everything is wireless, and the more wireless stuff we get, the bigger the problem is going to get.” [...] Garage door companies say interference problems are common at individual homes — they blame what is known as “frequency pollution.” But experts say having the issue extend to multiple homes is just plain weird."

MSM: "UK Town Searchs For Source Of Mysterious Radio Interferences" [02/05/12] "Residents living near an Army barracks say their village green became a mysterious ‘Bermuda Triangle’ after their remote-control car door locks were jammed by radio interference. Motorists in Waterbeach, Cambridgeshire, say the locks on their cars refused to work when they parked at the village green. Modern push-button ignitions were also scuppered by the unknown, eerie interference. Some members of the group had to get lifts home and return with manual overrides. The following day the group, including professional scientists, returned with sophisticated monitoring equipment and found ‘ultra-high frequency bands’ was causing the block. Professional scientist Wojciech Piotrowski said the mystery frequency was likely to have been caused by the military, but admitted a faulty TV or fridge could also be to blame. He said: ‘A strong electrical interference source was radiating radio signals in one of the ultra-high frequency bands at the southern end of the Green. ‘The primary user of this band is the military. However, by Sunday, the problem seemed to have gone. ‘It was really weird but being the radio hams that we are, we sort of knew it was an interference of some kind. The amateur radio group believe wireless devices in nearby homes, such as thermostats, remote light dimmers, switches and energy meters will have been affected. An engineer was today investigating the interference after the group reported their findings to communications watchdog, Ofcom. A spokesperson for the Army, which operates Waterbeach Barracks, said: ‘We are not aware of anything happening at Waterbeach that would have caused anything remotely like that.’ This is the first time an English village has experienced mysterious electronics failures. Last month residents of Kingsclere in Hampshire, near the world-famous Watership Down Hill, were baffled when their heating, showers, doorbells and car remote locks refused to work. They spent much of the festive season without heating and lights after the failure of household systems that rely on digital technology.  [...]"

MSM: "Satellite Phone Encryption Cracked" [02/04/12] "Security researchers have warned that the satellite phones relied on by businesses, charities and government agencies in trouble spots and emergencies worldwide can be easily intercepted and deciphered. German academics said they had cracked two encryption systems used to protect satellite phone signals and that anyone with cheap computer equipment and radio could eavesdrop on calls over an entire continent. Hundreds of thousands of satellite phone users are thought to be affected. “We were able to completely reverse engineer the encryption algorithms employed,” said Benedikt Driessen and Ralf Hund of Ruhr University Bochum as they announced their report, "Don't Trust Satellite Phones". The encryption algorithms are known as GMR-1 and GMR-2, and are standards used across satellite phone operators, including Thuraya, a leading providers. Their technology is widely used in the Middle East and Africa, including in some military applications. Mr Driessen told The Telegraph that the equipment and software needed to intercept and decrypt satellite phone calls from hundreds of thousands of users would cost as little as $2,000. His demonstration system takes up to half an hour to decipher a call, but a more powerful computer would allow eavesdropping in real time, he said. By publishing details of how to break the encryption, the researchers hope to prompt ETSI, the organization that sets the standards, to create stronger algorithms. A major problem with GMR-1 and GMR-2, Mr Driessen said, was that their details were kept secret so security experts cannot test them.  [...]"

The ancient Mayans had contact with alien visitors who left behind evidence of their existence, according to a new Mexican documentary. Sundance winner Juan Carlos Rulfo’s Revelations of the Mayans 2012 and Beyond is currently in production for release next year to coincide with the end of the Mayan calendar, reports the Wrap. Producer Raul Julia-Levy said the documentary-makers were working in cooperation with the Mexican government for what he said was “the good of mankind”. He said the order to collaborate had come directly from the country’s president, Álvaro Colom Caballeros. “Mexico will release codices, artefacts and significant documents with evidence of Mayan and extraterrestrial contact, and all of their information will be corroborated by archaeologists,” he said. “The Mexican government is not making this statement on their own – everything we say, we’re going to back it up.” Caballeros himself was conspicuous by his absence from the statement released by Julia-Levy. So far, the minister of tourism for the Mexican state of Campeche, Luis Augusto García Rosado, appears to be the highest-ranking government official to go on record confirming the discovery of ET life, but he’s not holding back. What people hear is only a small fraction of the actual power of these sounds. They are low-frequency acoustic emissions in the range between 20 and 100 Hz modulated by ultra-low infrasonic waves from 0.1 to 15 Hz. The prospect of heavily armed aircraft screaming through the skies without direct human control is unnerving to many. The X-47B marks a paradigm shift in warfare, one that is likely to have far-reaching consequences. With the drone's ability to be flown autonomously by onboard computers, it could usher in an era when death and destruction can be dealt by machines operating semi-independently. "Lethal actions should have a clear chain of accountability," said Noel Sharkey, a computer scientist and robotics expert. "This is difficult with a robot weapon. The robot cannot be held accountable. So is it the commander who used it? The politician who authorized it? The military's acquisition process? The manufacturer, for faulty equipment?" MSM: "Invisibility Cloak Breakthrough" [01/26/12] "Researchers have "cloaked" a three-dimensional object, making it invisible from all angles, for the first time. However, the demonstration works only for waves in the microwave region of the electromagnetic spectrum. It uses a shell of what are known as plasmonic materials; they present a "photo negative" of the object being cloaked, effectively cancelling it out. The idea, outlined in New Journal of Physics, could find first application in high-resolution microscopes. Most of the high-profile invisibility cloaking efforts have focused on the engineering of "metamaterials" - modifying materials to have properties that cannot be found in nature. The modifications allow metamaterials to guide and channel light in unusual ways - specifically, to make the light rays arrive as if they had not passed over or been reflected by a cloaked object. Previous efforts that have made 3-D objects disappear have relied upon a "carpet cloak" idea, in which the object to be cloaked is overlaid with a "carpet" of metamaterial that bends light so as to make the object invisible. Now, Andrea Alu and colleagues at the University of Texas at Austin have pulled off the trick in "free space", making an 18cm-long cylinder invisible to incoming microwave light. [...]" 

MSM: "Russian Scientist Finds 'Living' Objects In Photographs Taken By 1982 Soviet Probe" [01/24/12] "Life has been discovered on Venus, according to a Russian scientist. An article, printed in the Solar System Research magazine, highlighted several objects said to resemble living beings, which were photographed by a Soviet landing probe in 1982. The Venus-13 mission, which was launched in 1981 and boasted a craft and a lander, was designed to explore the surface of the planet. Its launch was followed closely by Venera-14. Both took four months to reach Venus, deploying parachutes once they had entered the atmosphere. Alongside pictures, the probes took surface samples and seismic readings. Leonid Ksanfomaliti, a scientist at the Space Research Institute of Russia’s Academy of Sciences, has published research analysing the pictures from the probe, which he describes as a “black flap”, a “scorpion” and a “disk” that "emerge, fluctuate and disappear".  [...]"

Out here in the country, unless some large animal gets hung up going over a barbed wire fence and rips its testicles off, I am not likely to hear any far-reaching moaning at 130 decibels, and if I did, I certainly wouldn't be recording it so I would have to endure it again. Incidentally, I just got a report from a reader who has heard this stuff while out in the boondocks ... so something is likely going on that is unexplained.

That would be incredible ... I'm not holding my breath on that one .... but still. It's a curiosity .. if legitimate.

The 14 states that haven’t reported in so far are Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming — but the year is young. ‘For the entire month of January 2011, MUFON recorded around 500 reports, and we’re already up to 233 after just the first week of 2012,’ said MUFON international director Clifford Clift. ‘For December, we had 810, compared to about 500 in December 2010,’ Clift told The Huffington Post. Last year, we averaged over 6,000 total sightings, and if it continues at this pace, we’ll be up 50 percent, with about 10 percent of those reports ending up as unexplained after our investigation,” he said. According to New Zealand’s WeatherWatch.co.nz, in the first 24 hours of the New Year, it received “almost 80 reports and they’re still flooding in at about 10 an hour. Many people around the world have been outside celebrating the New Year. In the U.S., where most of the sightings came from, conditions were fairly mild and dry in many areas, so more people were outside to see things,” weather analyst Philip Duncan said in a statement.  [...]"

With data gathered by the Hubble telescope, the map looks back to when the universe was 6.5 billion years old—about half its current age. Inferring the presence of dark matter through visual distortions in the shapes of galaxies, the map shows how matter was once evenly distributed until it clumped together into galaxies. What's the big deal? The map is the best-ever evidence that dark matter takes up roughly five-sixths of the universe, keeping fast-spinning galaxies from breaking apart. [...]"

"Imagine that you could divert light in time—slow it down, speed it up—so that you create a gap in the light beam in time," said study co-author and Cornell physicist Alex Gaeta. "In this case, any event that occurs at that instant of time won't lead to scattering of light. It appears as if the event never occurred." MSM: "Hackers Plan Satellites To Block Internet Censorship" [01/01/12] "Let's take the Internet out of the control of terrestrial entities." This call to arms, issued by hacker activist Nick Farr, is the rallying cry behind a new plan to launch satellites into space to prevent Internet censorship. Farr, a spokesperson for the Germany-based Chaos Computer Club, outlined the group's mission at this week's Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin, the BBC reported. Calling for an "uncensorable Internet in space," Farr outlined the CCC's Hackerspace Global Grid, a project that also will involve setting up low-cost ground stations to track and communicate with the fast-moving satellites. Farr, who introduced and began soliciting donations for the Hackerspace Global Grid this summer, said the project is now a top priority because of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), a bill that some critics say could have catastrophic effects on freedom of communication and the way people connect to the Internet. [...] There's a legal black hole to contend with, as well: Outer space is not governed by the countries beneath it, Woodward explained, so while the CCC's satellites could function as planned, "any country could take the law into their own hands and disable the satellites." 

Research: "EM Fields Initiate The Stress Response By Interacting With Electrons Moving Within DNA" [12/31/11] "Electromagnetic (EM) fields have been used therapeutically for accelerated healing and pain control, but they have also been associated with adverse health effects. To understand these biological effects, we have been studying the interaction of low frequency EM fields with cells at both the cellular and molecular levels. ... Our studies with cells have shown that 60Hz EM fields induce stress genes and stress response proteins in cells. The stress response is a protective mechanism induced by many potentially harmful environmental stimuli and characterized by the synthesis of specific proteins that assist the renaturation and transport of other proteins. Our studies suggest that EM fields initiate the stress response by interacting with electrons moving within DNA. We have identified a 900 base pair segment associated with the response to EM fields, that when removed eliminates the response, and when transfected into a reporter construct, causes the construct to become EM field responsive. Commentary: "1,100-Year-Old Mayan Ruins Found In North Georgia" [12/23/11] "Archaeologists have discovered the ruins of an ancient Mayan city in the mountains of North Georgia believed to be at least 1,100 years old. According to Richard Thornton at Examiner.com, the ruins are reportedly what remains of a city built by Mayans fleeing wars, volcanic eruptions, droughts and famine. In 1999, University of Georgia archeologist Mark Williams led an expedition to investigate the Kenimer Mound, a large, five-sided pyramid built in approximately 900 A.D. in the foothills of Georgia’s tallest mountain, Brasstown Bald. Many local residents has assumed for years that the pyramid was just another wooded hill, but in fact it was a structure built on an existing hill in a method common to Mayans living in Central America as well as to Southeastern Native American tribes. Speculation has abounded for years as to what could have happened to the people who lived in the great Meso-American societies of the first century. Some historians believed that they simply died out in plagues and food shortages, but others have long speculated about the possibility of mass migration to other regions. When evidence began to turn up of Mayan connections to the Georgia site, South African archeologist Johannes Loubser brought teams to the site who took soil samples and analyzed pottery shards which dated the site and indicated that it had been inhabited for many decades approximately 1000 years ago. The people who settled there were known as Itza Maya, a word that carried over into the Cherokee language of the region. The city that is being uncovered there is believed to have been called Yupaha, which Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto searched for unsuccessfully in 1540. So far, archeologists have unearthed “at least 154 stone masonry walls for agricultural terraces, plus evidence of a sophisticated irrigation system and ruins of several other stone structures.” Much more may still be hidden underground. Commentary: "Future Riot Shields Will Suffocate Protesters with Low Frequency Speakers" [12/16/11] "It's not the first crowd control tool to use sound waves, but Raytheon's patent for a new type of riot shield that produces low frequency sound waves to disrupt the respiratory tract and hinder breathing, sounds a little scary. Crowd control tools like the LRAD Sound Cannon emit bursts of loud and annoying sounds that can induce headaches and nausea. But Raytheon's non-lethal pressure shield creates a pulsed pressure wave that resonates the upper respiratory tract of a human, hindering breathing and eventually incapacitating the target. The patent points out that the sound waves being generated are actually not that powerful, so while protestors might collapse from a lack of oxygen reaching their brains, their eardrums won't be damaged in the process. Phew! And like Roman soldiers joining their shields to form a large impenetrable wall, these new riot shields can actually be networked together to form a larger acoustical horn, vastly improving their range, power, and effectiveness. There's no word on what the long-term medical implications might be if you find yourself on the wrong side of one of these shields. But I imagine the unpleasant experience is not unlike being force choked from afar by Darth Vader. " Note: They have nothing constructive to think about except weapons, manipulation and control. No matter ... they will not last the next year.

MSM: "British Police to Test Riot Control Laser" [12/12/11] "A shoulder-mounted laser that emits a blinding wall of light capable of repelling rioters is to be put to trial by police under preparations to prevent a repeat of this summer’s looting and arson. The technology, developed by a former Royal Marine commando, temporarily impairs the vision of anyone who looks towards the source. It has impressed a division of the Home Office which is testing a new range of devices because of the growing number of violent situations facing the police. The developer, British-based Photonic Security Systems, hopes to offer the device to shipping companies to deter pirates. Similar devices have been used by ISAF troops in Afghanistan to protect convoys from insurgents. The laser, resembling a rifle and known as an SMU 100, can dazzle and incapacitate targets up to 500m away with a wall of light up to three metres squared. It costs £25,000 and has an infrared scope to spot looters in poor visibility. Looking at the intense beam causes a short-lived effect similar to staring at the sun, forcing the target to turn away. MSM: "US Has 70 B61-12 Type Nuclear Warheads At Its Airbase In Incirlik, Turkey" [12/06/11] "The United States currently has 70 type B61-12 tactical nuclear bombs at its airbase in Incirlik in the southern province of Adana, according to daily Vatan. Vatan acquired the information from a report by Robert S. Norris and Hans M. Kristensen that was published on the “Atomic Scientists Bulletin” website, revealing an inventory of the nuclear weapons the US military keeps in Turkey. Number of warheads decreased from 90 in 2001. Between 10 and 20 of the 70 nuclear warheads at Incirlik were designed to be delivered to their targets by Turkish warplanes, according to the report. The 142nd fighter/bomber squadron of the Turkish Air Forces, nicknamed the “Gazelles,” was assigned the task of delivering the nuclear ordnances. The squadron consists of F-16A/B warplanes. The US military needed a certain warplane type that is different than those stationed at the Incirlik airbase in order to deliver the remaining 50 warheads, the report by Norris and Kristensen said. The Turkish state, however, has declined to allow the US military to deploy the said aircraft at Incirlik. US warplanes would need to land at Incirlik from another location, equip the nuclear warheads and then fly to their targets, according to the report. Turkey’s refusal to station nuclear-capable US warplanes on its soil prevented Incirlik from acquiring a “full NATO position” status. This was a unique case among NATO bases, the report said. The report indicated that the B61-12 nuclear warheads currently deployed at Incirlik would be changed with the new B61-3/4 warheads. Former Turkish Air Force Commander Gen. Ergin Cilasun was quoted as saying that “Turkey’s nuclear strike duty within NATO has ended” in 2001. [...]"  

Commentary: "Thorium the Energy Panacea" [12/02/11] "Thorium is a naturally-occurring, radioactive, and amazingly abundant metal that was discovered in 1828 by Swedish chemist, Jons Jakob Berzelius. The mineral, named after the Norse god of thunder, has languished in relative obscurity for many years as opposed to its much more recognized cousin, uranium. However, conversations have been popping up about thorium in recent years and how it can be a game-changer in the energy industry. Thorium has incredible potential as an ultra-safe, clean, and cheap nuclear energy source which can power the world for millennia. [...] Thorium is found naturally in rocks in the form of thorium-232, and has a half-life of about 14 billion years. Estimates by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) show it is about three times more common in the Earth's crust than uranium. It can be obtained through various methods, most commonly through the extraction from monazite sands. Known reserves of thorium are not well-known due to lack of exploratory research. The US Geological Service estimates that the USA, Australia, and India hold the largest reserves. India is believed to have the lion's share of thorium deposits. In the United States, Idaho contains a large vein deposit. The world has an estimated total of 4.4 million tons. A newly created organization known as the Weinberg Foundation has taken up the cause of promoting thorium energy. The foundation was named after Dr. Alvin Weinberg, a nuclear energy researcher in the 1960s who laid out the vision of safe and abundant thorium power. He pioneered the Molten Salt Reactor using thorium in its liquid fuel form at the US Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This reactor had an inherently safer design and dramatically reduced the amount of atomic waste in comparison to typical nuclear reactors. Unfortunately, the thorium reactor program was not fully pursued due to political and military reasons."

Sven Gronemeyer yesterday shared his reading of a 1,300-year-old Mayan stone tablet that makes reference to 2012: He says the hieroglyphs describe the return of Bolon Yokte, the mysterious Mayan god of creation and war. The date of his reappearance? At the end of a 13th period of 400 years: Dec. 21, 2012. The date, therefore, marks a transition to a new era, not an end, he says.  The institute has tried to dispel talk of a 2012 apocalypse, the subject of numerous postings and stories on the Internet. Its latest step was to arrange a special round table of Mayan experts this week at Palenque, which is where Gronemeyer made his comments. [...]"  Note: But in reality, what is really afoot is a transition AND an end to the civilization, not the physical planet, but not for any reasons they could comprehend. On this planet, it is unprecedented. The long term sequentials out there 'remember' that on every planet used for simultaneous incarnations (where there are those that do NOT remember past lives), there has always been an 'apocalypse' which involves the cleansing of the planet as individuals move on in their evolution. In our case, the planetary spirit also leaves and everyone drops dead, and it all of this will happen BEFORE the end of 2012, a 'calendar date year' which happens to coincide with the period in which this happens. The 29-foot-long reusable min-shuttle was designed to spend up to 270 days in orbit. The 270th day of the winged spacecraft's second flight is today, but the military has no intentions of bringing the billion-dollar robotic vehicle back to Earth just yet. [...] Exactly what the X-37B is doing is a secret. The Air Force insists the X-37B, built by Boeing in its soon-to-be-closed Huntington Beach facility, is meant only for conducting orbital science experiments in its pickup-bed-size cargo bay, but analysts say the X-37B is capable of much more than that. It could be an orbital spy. It could even be used to sneak up on and tamper with enemy satellites. It could haul small batches of supplies to the International Space Station. In October, Boeing program manager Art Grantz proposed to build an enlarged X-37C model that could also carry astronauts to the station, filling a gap left by the retired NASA Space Shuttle. Whatever it’s up to, the X-37B will be doing it longer than anyone imagined when the diminutive spacecraft launched atop an Atlas rocket for the first time in April last year. The Air Force said last year that the X-37B could last nine months in orbit before its power and fuel ran out. (In comparison, the longest manned shuttle mission lasted just 17 days.) In October, Air Force program manager Lt. Col. Tom McIntyre said an extension might be possible. Now it appears the Air Force is taking it day by day, carefully monitoring the X-37B “as it sips power and fuel like a Prius,” in the words of one source involved in the development of military spacecraft. Captain Sean Malinowski of the LAPD is a staunch advocate of using predictive analytics to examine data from past crimes to determine when and where certain crimes are likely to occur next so police can be on hand to stop them before they are committed. To test his theories on predictive policing, on 6 November, Malinowski launched a three month trial program in his area of command. “We’re doing a rigorous examination, an experiment, for the next three months of predictive analytics and for the first time we’re going to rely 100 percent on the computer to forecast property crimes, which are the lion’s share of our crime,” he said. Malinowski hesitates to relinquish control in his jurisdiction but is more than willing to make some sacrifices if it results in a drop in the crime rate. The LAPD and Santa Cruz Police Department in particular have taken to deploying predictive software developed by social scientists and mathematicians at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA).  The software is modeled after a mathematical algorithm used to predict earthquakes and their aftershocks. Researchers discovered that like aftershocks, which occur in close proximity to an earthquake’s epicenter, criminals commit crimes in close proximity to past crimes. The software works best at predicting property crimes like home burglaries and vehicle thefts as these targets are stationary and do not change that much over time in comparison to homicides or assault victims who are mobile and can change their behavior.[...]"

The hacking software, FinFisher, is used to spy on intelligence targets’ computers. It is known to be used by British agencies and earlier this year records were discovered in abandoned offices of that showed it had been offered to Egypt’s feared secret police. Apple was informed about the relevant flaw in iTunes in 2008, according to Brian Krebs, a security writer, but did not patch the software until earlier this month, a delay of more than three years. “A prominent security researcher warned Apple about this dangerous vulnerability in mid-2008, yet the company waited more than 1,200 days to fix the flaw,” he said in a blog post. The Air Force started taking delivery of the giant bomb, the “Massive Ordnance Penetrator,” in September, said Lieutenant Colonel Jack Miller. The MOP bomb, with more than 5,000 pounds (or nearly 2.5 tons) of explosives, is supposed to fit on a B-2 stealth bomber to strike at underground sites hiding weapons of mass destruction. The weapon, made to penetrate up to 200 feet of reinforced concrete before exploding, is ten times more powerful than its predecessor, the BLU-109. One type of system is produced by Datong in the United Kingdom which has already been purchased by the largest police force in all of Britain, the London Metropolitan Police. The London Police paid $230,000 for so called “ICT hardware” in 2008 and 2009 which creates a fake cellular phone network in order to not only intercept the communications and unique identification numbers from phones, but also to remotely turn off telephones. This incredibly dangerous technology that seems like something out of a spy thriller is highly portable and is about the size of a suitcase. [...] The portable device, which is the size of a suitcase, pretends to be a legitimate cell phone tower that emits a signal to dupe thousands of mobile phones in a targeted area. Authorities can then intercept SMS messages, phone calls and phone data, such as unique IMSI and IMEI identity codes that allow authorities to track phone users’ movements in real-time, without having to request location data from a mobile phone carrier. In addition to intercepting calls and messages, the system can be used to effectively cut off phone communication, such as in a war zone where phones might be used as a trigger for an explosive device, or for crowd control during demonstrations and riots where participants use phones to organize. The Met police would not provide details to the Guardian about where or when its technology had been used. According to the company’s web site, Datong “develops intelligence solutions for international military, law enforcement and intelligence agencies for use in all operating environments,” and sells its products in the U.S. as well. [...]" 

MSM: "Darpa Wants To Master The Science Of Propaganda" [11/03/11] "Mark Twain once tried to distinguish between the storyteller’s art and tales that a machine could generate. He observed that stringing “incongruities and absurdities together in a wandering and sometimes purposeless way, and seem innocently unaware that they are absurdities,” was the province of the American storyteller. A machine might imitate simple formulas behind yarns, but never quite master them. The Pentagon’s freewheeling research arm is hoping to prove Twain wrong. Darpa is asking scientists to “take narratives and make them quantitatively analyzable in a rigorous, transparent and repeatable fashion.” The idea is to detect terrorists who have been indoctrinated by propaganda. Then, the Pentagon can respond with some messages of its own. The program is called “Narrative Networks.” By understanding how stories have shaped your mind, the Pentagon hopes to sniff out who has fallen prey to dangerous ideas, a neuroscience researcher involved in the project tells Danger Room. With this knowledge, the military can also target groups vulnerable to terrorists’ recruiting tactics with its own counter-messaging. “Stories are important in security contexts,” Darpa said in an Oct. 7 solicitation for research proposals. Stories “change the course of insurgencies, frame negotiations, play a role in political radicalization, influence the methods and goals of violent social movements.” The desire to study narratives has been simmering for a while in the Defense Department. A Darpa workshop in April to discuss the “neurobiology of narratives” added momentum to this project. In the first 18-month phase of the program, the Pentagon wants researchers to study how stories infiltrate social networks and alter our brain circuits. One of the stipulated research goals: to “explore the function narratives serve in the process of political radicalization and how they can influence a person or group’s choice of means (such as indiscriminant violence) to achieve political ends.” [...]"  Note:  So controlling and manipulative ... a sequential dream and a simultaneous nightmare. DHS is already struggling to operate their seven existing drones. Officials acknowledge that they are short on pilots and maintenance — right now, they can only pay to fly the drones five days a week. So now DHS is in a mad scramble trying to figure out how they can successfully incorporate three more vehicles into the roster. That means more than just pilots: Each drone also requires a maintenance crew, intelligence analysts and pricey satellite bandwidth. “That is year-by-year, hand-to-mouth living,” another unnamed official said of hard-knock times at the department, which has been forced to move money from other projects just to keep their surveillance initiative, which will eventually boast 18 to 24 drones monitoring U.S. borders and waterways for everything from illegal immigrants to drug runners, operational. [...] The DHS might not be happy, but the drone endowment will no doubt have some parties squealing with delight: The appropriation was the result of ongoing lobbying from the so-called “Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Caucus,” a group of several dozen congressmen, many of whom hail from Southern California — a hot-bed of drone development and home to General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, the company that makes the Predator drone in question. It is being pushed from above by people who want to sell it.” "

Calleman claims that he successfully predicted the economic collapse in 2008 based on the fact that the Fifth Night of the current cycle began in November 2007, coinciding with the global crash of the world economy. (He does not seem to take into account the fact that Pluto entered Capricorn in January of 2008 which is when the actual crash began.) Light would have covered the distance in around 2.4 thousandths of a second, but the neutrinos took 60 nanoseconds — or 60 billionths of a second — less than light beams would have taken. “It is a tiny difference,” said Ereditato, who also works at Berne University in Switzerland, “but conceptually it is incredibly important. Commentary: "On 'Cloud Computing': Fuck The Cloud" Jason Scott [09/12/11] "By the cloud, of course, I mean this idea that you have a local machine, a box running some OS, and a vital, distinct part of what you do and what you’re about or what you consider important to you is on other machines that you don’t run, don’t control, don’t buy, don’t administrate, and don’t really understand. These machines are connected via the internet, and if you have a company then these other machines are not machines run by your company, and if you’re a person they are giving it to you without you signing anything accompanied by cash or payment that says “and I mean it“. Can I be clearer than that? It’s a sucker’s game. It’s a game suckers play. If you are playing it, you are a sucker. The term, like many of its sort, has deep, deep roots in the industry that it’s being foisted upon. But what this all kind of hides is the situation of how you feel about stuff you generate. Let me step aside and say that as a historian guy, I am big into collecting a lot of cast-offs. According to Vivos, the American company that constructs the bunkers, “about two dozen” Brisbane residents are among “hundreds” of Australians enquiring about spots in massive underground bunkers that can house 1000 people for up to a year to ride out Hollywood-style disasters. The company is considering building bunkers in Australia if enough people are willing to cough up between $10,000 and $50,000 (kids are half price) for a spot in the airtight, fortified dwellings that feature libraries, private rooms, food supplies and even their own jails. However, Vivos has bad news for Brisbane residents hoping to be on the safe side of the wall when things get ugly. “We prefer inland and high ground to avoid the impacts of a mega-tsunami,” a spokeswoman said via email. “Unfortunately, the highest ground in eastern Australia is within 100 miles of the coastline. Gass hadn’t had a traffic ticket in years, so the Natick resident was surprised this spring when he received a letter from the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles informing him to cease driving because his license had been revoked. “I was shocked,’’ Gass said in a recent interview. “As far as I was concerned, I had done nothing wrong.’’ After frantic calls and a hearing with Registry officials, Gass learned the problem: An antiterrorism computerized facial recognition system that scans a database of millions of state driver’s license images had picked his as a possible fraud. And some of those people are guilty of nothing more than looking like someone else. Not all go through the long process that Gass says he endured, but each must visit the Registry with proof of their identity. The process relies on similar methods of distorting electromagnetic fields as invisibility cloaks, but it exploits a time-space duality in electromagnetic theory: diffraction and dispersion of light in space are mathematically equivalent. Scientists have used this theory to create a "time-lens [that] can, for example, magnify or compress in time." The time cloak takes two of those lenses and arranges them so that one compresses a beam of light while the other decompresses it. That leaves the beam seemingly unchanged, but the diffraction and dispersion actually "cloak" small events in the beam's timeline. Right now, the cloak can only last for 120 nanoseconds, and the theoretical max for the current design measures just microseconds. But the prospect of being able to exist outside of time, even for just a few microseconds, should be enough to make even the most jaded tech nerd giggle at the possibilities. Research: "Turning Radio Waves Into Power (With Circuits Printed On Paper)" [07/12/11] "Researchers at Georgia Tech have found a way to harvest energy from electromagnetic waves in the air. The harvesting devices are produced using an inkjet printer and can collect small amounts of power from a wide band of frequencies --everything from FM radio up to radar. The technology isn't new—researchers have floated concepts (and a few devices) that can harvest energy from ambient WiFi signals and other small sources, but these are usually able to pull power only from tiny slices of the electromagnetic spectrum (perhaps just a few KHz). The new system can draw energy from much wider electromagnetic swaths: 100MHz to 15GHz. Even better, the sensors that harvest the energy are simple to make. To print the circuits on paper or paper-like polymers, the researchers use an inkjet printer and add an emulsion of nanoparticles. Circuits printed on polymers are currently less advanced, but the scientists say they have a wider range and can harvest energy from frequencies up to 60GHz. Gadgets such as cell phones could one day use residual radio signal to supplement their own batteries, but the amounts of energy harvested are small (on the order of 50 milliwatts) and the system won't currently make even small consumer devices self-sustaining. However, if the energy is allowed to build up in a small capacitor, it could temporarily power low-energy intermittent devices like temperature sensors or could supplement other energy-gathering mechanisms like solar panels. The harvesters could also function as mission-critical stopgaps, allowing a system to maintain essential functions or send out a distress signal until it can be fixed.  [...]"

The object was photographed using a high-speed zoom lens in January 2009, and revealed in a video released by OpenMinds.tv on June 17. Jason McClellan, Open Minds photographer, captured the images from the rooftop of fellow photographer Arturo Robles Gil's residence. The group that oversees the U.S. power grid is proposing an experiment that would allow more frequency variation than it does now without corrections, according to a company presentation obtained by The Associated Press. First, the law allows the Nevada Department of Transportation to create rules and regulations regarding the use of self-driving cars, so that they can be used legally on the road. All this through a cable TV company that is well known household name nationwide. The  technology can be a two edged sword that can have good use and can be a nightmare too. I have some real reservations about this Xfinity service by Comcast. Why, it is because if I can access my home to see what is going on in my house while I am away. So can other people. The government will love Xfinity because they can access at random people's homes to see what is going on. There are many privacy issues concerning civil liberties about Xfinity. "Airborne Anomalies: Rethinking Atmospheric Lifeforms" [06/09/11]   "Most people, when considering the possibilities as to what UFOs might actually be, tend to lean heavily toward the idea of advanced aircraft that are both intelligently designed and controlled. Many reports do indeed appear to indicate that the objects seen appear  mechanical or otherwise “manufactured,” although there are also the occasional reports of rather amorphous “blobs” that seem to have little definite shape or form. Though the range of potentials for how an alien technology might appear to us remains very broad, perhaps there are other possible identities we could attribute to at least some UFO reports.  One unique (though perhaps unlikely) theory proposed a number of times over the years deals with the idea of “atmospheric lifeforms,” as proposed by the likes of Charles Fort, Trevor James Constable, and Ivan Sanderson, among others. Essentially, this approach to various reports of UFOs supposes that some of the sightings might describe strange, atmospheric “beasts” that are essentially self-contained, energetic creatures. Though the multitude of encounters detailing a more technological origin for UFO craft seems to leave little room for any credence to such ideas as “atmospheric beasts,” perhaps engaging in a sort of “though game” with the subject could provide insights or some merit, by virtue of considering airborne anomalies from a less conventional perspective. Generally, the idea of an atmospheric beast in the present context would involve a creature which either weighs less than air in a given atmosphere, or which may be capable of flying by some other means of wingless propulsion. With regard to research into the unexplained, one of the pioneering ufologists to take this approach with the study of unidentified flying craft was Trevor James Constable, a writer and researcher who outlined his ideas in the 1975 book The Cosmic Pulse of Life (somewhat sadly, I interviewed Constable a few years ago, and upon mentioning that I had obtained a copy of this book, he joked with me, “so you were the one who bought a copy!”) Constable’s idea of “critters” (photographs of which can be seen by clicking here) dealt with amoeba-like creatures that existed in Earth’s upper atmosphere, and which occasionally fed on livestock and other creatures, hence seeking to explain some reports of animal mutilations that occur in conjunction with UFO sightings. Secondly, there is little or no evidence the Moon was HERE more than 13,000 years ago. No cave drawings or rock drawings, worldwide, older than 13,000 years show the moon as existing. Afterward, they all do. The logical conclusion from the nature of what has been found on the moon, and other factors, is that it was moved into orbit at some point by ET sequentials.

The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), a spy version of DARPA under the director of National Intelligence, is working on something called The Metaphor Program. It’s no 1960s quiz show. The program is meant to “exploit the fact that metaphors are pervasive in everyday talk and reveal the underlying beliefs and worldviews of members of a culture.” Researchers will apparently identify and define metaphors from English, Farsi, Spanish, and Russian texts and compile them into a database. But computers will do most of the work. The first phase of the five-year program will “develop automated tools and techniques for recognizing, defining, and categorizing linguistic metaphors.” Analysts would later compare subjects’ statements to the database to try to determine their intentions. Project manager Heather McCallum-Bayliss has suggested that words used by Israelis and Palestinians or China and Taiwan to describe world events could be analyzed as an example. Statements by extremist leaders could also be studied for the effect of metaphors on followers. One of the goals of the Metaphor Program is to deliver “a functional prototype that demonstrates the automated handling of data, discovery, and semantic definition of metaphors.” It’s very difficult for natural language processing software to comprehend figurative language, so that will be one tough row to hoe. Future Attribute Screening Technology (FAST), a US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) programme designed to spot people who are intending to commit a terrorist act, has in the past few months completed its first round of field tests at an undisclosed location in the northeast, Nature has learned.  Like a lie detector, FAST measures a variety of physiological indicators, ranging from heart rate to the steadiness of a person’s gaze, to judge a subject’s state of mind. But there are major differences from the polygraph. FAST relies on non-contact sensors, so it can measure indicators as someone walks through a corridor at an airport, and it does not depend on active questioning of the subject. The tactic has drawn comparisons with the science-fiction concept of ‘pre-crime’, popularized by the film Minority Report, in which security services can detect someone’s intention to commit a crime. Unlike the system in the film, FAST does not rely on a trio of human mutants who can see the future. Humans might interpret the reactions as “mourning,” but is it?" [...] A 9-year-old chimpanzee male has died in recent days. On this day, keepers at the Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage Trust discover the body for the first time near the refuge’s fence line. This community of 43 chimps has nearly 200 acres to roam, a semi-wild area protected by the fence. The scientists, on site for regularly scheduled research, were alerted and turned on video cameras. At the time we start recording there are 2 or 3 individuals present and in the next 17, 18 minutes there are 36-38 individuals of the 43 actually, at least one time visiting or staying very close to the body for the full 17 minutes. We see the chimpanzees coming together in a very small space, gathering around this body. And we haven’t seen in any other time that we’ve been watching these chimps them all gather in such a small space and be so calm and quiet and motivated to stay near each other or near the body. If enacted, the proposal will basically allow the EPA and ACE to control any stream, pond, or even puddle that they determine “has a physical, chemical or biological connection” to any larger body of water, which includes even privately-owned water sources. One of the biggest impacts of the guidance will be to reverse previous Supreme Court decisions that have established the proper constitutional limits on the scope of federal government regulatory authority over not only water, but other natural resources. By undoing these decisions, the EPA and ACE will essentially be giving themselves a free pass to arbitrarily develop and establish their own rules, and they will be able to do so without proper congressional approval. The instrument will employ a nearly 4,200-pound (1,900 kg) permanent magnet to generate a strong, uniform magnetic field more than 3,000 times more intense than Earth's. This deflects cosmic rays so that a battery of detectors can analyze their properties, such as charge and velocity, and beam their findings to mission control. When NASA launches the experiment, Sam Ting, Principal Investigator for the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer-2 experiment, hopes that it will provide data that proves the existence of parallel universes that are composed of anti-matter. On Tuesday, the Air Force issued a call for help making a miniature drone that could covertly drop a mysterious and unspecified tracking “dust” onto people, allowing them to be tracked from a distance. The proposal says its useful for all kinds of random things, from identifying friendly forces and civilians to tracking wildlife. But the motive behind a covert drone tagger likely has less to do with sneaking up on spotted owls and more to do with painting a target on the backs of tomorrow’s terrorists. [...]"   

"Alien Search Telescope Is Shelved" [04/27/11]   "A monitoring system for potential extra-terrestrial communication has been shelved due to budget cuts. The Allen Telescope Array (ATA) in California has been mothballed, according to the Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (Seti) Institute. Funding for the observatory, which hosts the ATA, has been cut to one-tenth its former level. The Seti Institute was established in 1984 to look for life beyond Earth. The telescopes, at the Hat Creek Radio Observatory north of San Francisco, California, have a number of science goals, including searching for radio signals from intelligent life in the Universe. "Effective this week, the ATA has been placed in hibernation due to funding shortfalls for operations of the Hat Creek Radio Observatory where the ATA is located," Tom Pierson, chief executive of the Seti Institute, said in a statement.[...]"  Note: It was for public show, anyway.

[...]"  Note: Again, it is interesting in that there don't seem to be any cave drawings of the MOON older than 12,000 to 13,000 years ago.  None. There is a reason for that. Evidence suggests the moon was moved into its current Earth orbit around 13,000 years ago, coincident with the period in which evidence suggests other civilizations frequented this world more often. So why is is not being used in nuclear reactors all over the world? Professor Carlo Rubbia, from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (Cern), tells the World Service's One Planet why he has been pushing thorium as a nuclear alternative. Though it was discovered in 1828, the metal has not been developed as a nuclear fuel until very recently when countries such as Russia, India and China started making plans to build reactors that use it. This, says Professor Rubbia, is because the metal cannot be used to make an atomic bomb, and its potential was never exploited by Cold War scientists in the same way that uranium and plutonium was. UK: " Mod 'Agonizes' Over The Ethics Of Killer Robots" [04/18/11]   "Analysis of unmanned aircraft in combat urges Britain to establish policy on 'acceptable machine behaviour' The growing use of unmanned aircraft in combat situations raises huge moral and legal issues, and threatens to make war more likely as armed robots take over from human beings, according to an internal study by the Ministry of Defence. The report warns of the dangers of an "incremental and involuntary journey towards a Terminator-like reality", referring to James Cameron's 1984 movie, in which humans are hunted by robotic killing machines. It says the pace of technological development is accelerating at such a rate that Britain must quickly establish a policy on what will constitute "acceptable machine behaviour". "It is essential that before unmanned systems become ubiquitous (if it is not already too late) … we ensure that, by removing some of the horror, or at least keeping it at a distance, we do not risk losing our controlling humanity and make war more likely," warns the report, titled The UK Approach to Unmanned Aircraft Systems. MoD officials have never before grappled so frankly with the ethics of the use of drones. The report was ordered by Britain's defence chiefs, and coincides with continuing controversy about drones' use in Afghanistan, and growing Pakistani anger at CIA drone attacks against suspected insurgents on the Afghan borders. It states that "the recent extensive use of unmanned aircraft over Pakistan and Yemen may already herald a new era". Referring to descriptions of "killer drones" in Afghanistan, it notes that "feelings are likely to run high as armed systems acquire more autonomy". The insurgents "gain every time a mistake is made", enabling them to cast themselves "in the role of underdog and the west as a cowardly bully that is unwilling to risk his own troops, but is happy to kill remotely", the report adds. "Computer Cursor Can Be Controlled by Thought" [04/10/11] " Advances in mind-reading technology have made it possible for people with disabilities to control a computer cursor using only their thoughts, say Washington University researchers. The team has demonstrated that people can move a cursor around a computer screen and "click" by thinking of a particular vowel sound—in this study, oo, ah, ee, or eh—when electrodes are planted directly on the surface of the brain, the BBC reports. Volunteers wore a "cap" of electrodes, but researchers believe the same results can be achieved with a much smaller surgical implant. "We can distinguish both spoken sounds and the patient imagining saying a sound, so that means we are truly starting to read the language of thought," the lead researcher says. "This is one of the earliest examples, to a very, very small extent, of what is called 'reading minds'—detecting what people are saying to themselves in their internal dialogue." [...]"  

"The Future Expansion of Unmanned Drones Over The U.S." [04/09/11] [5:37] "In a stark admission, two-star General, John Priddy, from the U.S. National Air Security Operations Center, confirmed in the video below that the continued expansion of predator drone surveillance is a stated goal for the coming years. His comments were echoed by Al Palmer, Director of Unmanned Aircraft Training at the world's largest center at the University of North Dakota, "The world is going to spend $80 billion on unmanned aircraft between now and 2016."  The idea for predator drone surveillance of Americans was kept under wraps until fairly recently. Even after a 2007 local news station in Texas captured drone flight tests on video, it was roundly denied as conspiracy theory that unmanned drones would actually take flight over America. Further investigation revealed that this flight test coincided with a plan already in place to patrol far inland beyond the legal 100-mile security border, also known as the Constitution-free Zone.  Then, early this year, Miami-Dade county openly admitted to ordering a 16-pound T-Hawk micro drone which clearly indicates a move to miniaturize surveillance in order to bring it right into the streets of America, rather than the continued military propaganda stating that unmanned drones will be used only for border control operations. As Dana Gabriel and others have covered, Canada and the U.S. have formed a clear perimeter security and trade alliance which for all practical purposes removes the border between the two countries, thus allowing for drones to go beyond the previous 16-kilometer buffer zone and continue right to the border of Canada. This ultimately allows for coast-to-coast surveillance. Now that we know that "the ultimate goal" is 24-hour eye-in-the-sky surveillance by predator drones within civilian airspace from coast to coast, do we believe General Priddy when he asserts that this technology will be applied to "search and rescue" missions during natural disasters? Or, rather, should we be asking if the next logical step is for these drones to be weaponized? [...]"

"Stunray Disables Your Brain With Inverse Blindness" [04/05/11] "Until we figure out how to make a phaser that can be set to stun, we’ve been stuck with non less-lethal options like tasers (which can kill) and laser dazzlers (which can cause eye damage). StunRay is basically just a big flashlight, except with the ability to disable you by causing “inverse blindness.” If you’re wondering what inverse blindness looks like, it’s easy to do to yourself: just stare at a bright light for a minute or two and then look around. It’s not dark, really, but you can’t see anything very well, and it’s because the exposure to bright light has overloaded the neurons that connect your retinas to your brain, and mostly all you can see is a featureless white expanse. The technical term for this is “loss of contrast sensitivity,” and it’s an effective way of disabling someone. A company called Genesis Illumination is working what’s basically a giant fancy flashlight called StunRay that can inflict this loss of contrast sensitivity or inverse blindness or neural overload or whatever you want to call it on people at long range in a split second. Each burst of super bright light incapacitates subjects for five seconds or so without causing any pain, and subjects fully recover in about five minutes. The “fully recover” bit is key, since StunRay won’t roast your eyeballs like a laser dazzler can. StunRay uses a 75 watt bulb, which doesn’t seem like much, but with some fancy optics, the device is able to focus its light beam to be ten times brighter than an aircraft landing light, even up to 150 feet away. And in case you were wondering, and I’m sure you were, this is bright enough to read a newspaper from a mile away.

It was united by an urgent concern with time — in particular with the way time is parceled out in modern industrial societies. The root of all world ills, Mr. Argüelles believed, was the Gregorian calendar. Introduced in the late 16th century, it chopped the year artificially into months of varying lengths. This, he said, left modern man out of synch with the natural order of things, resulting in war, conflict and general turpitude. Mr. Argüelles’s work was generally derided by scholars. But he was widely credited with focusing the popular imagination on the Mayan calendar — a complex astronomical and mathematical system whose workings were formerly the province of academics — and in particular on 2012 as the year in which something very big and quite possibly unwelcome might happen. They have described an advanced solar cell the size of a poker card that mimics the process, called photosynthesis, that green plants use to convert sunlight and water into energy.... About the shape of a poker card but thinner, the device is fashioned from silicon, electronics and catalysts, substances that accelerate chemical reactions that otherwise would not occur, or would run slowly. Placed in a single gallon of water in a bright sunlight, the device could produce enough electricity to supply a house in a developing country with electricity for a day, said Nocera. It does so by splitting water into its two components, hydrogen and oxygen. The hydrogen and oxygen gases would be stored in a fuel cell, which uses those two materials to produce electricity, located either on top of the house or beside it. The new leaf is made of inexpensive materials that are widely available, works under simple conditions and is highly stable. In laboratory studies, Nocera showed that an artificial leaf prototype could operate continuously for at least 45 hours without a drop in activity. Commentary: "HAARP Magnetometer data shows Japan earthquake was induced." [03/22/11] "The US Air Force and Navy has provided a visual insight into what caused the 9.0 magnitude off of Japan on March 11, 2011 at 05:46:23 UTC. The image above was downloaded from the High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP*) website. It is a time-frequency spectrogram, which shows the frequency content of signals recorded by the HAARP Induction Magnetometer. This instrument, provided by the University of Tokyo, measures temporal variations in the geomagnetic field (Earth’s magnetosphere) in the ULF (ultra-low frequency) range of 0-5 Hz. Notions have been added to the image to show you what was happening the day the Japan earthquake and tsunami struck.  By looking at the accompanying HAARP spectrum chart above you can see when the 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck – red line drawn vertically – and what was happening before and after the earthquake. What you can also see is a constant ULF frequency of 2.5 Hz being recorded by the magnetometer. The ULF 2.5 Hz frequency is evidence of an induced earthquake. The chart recorded this constant before, during and after the 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck.  On March 11, 2011 the 2.5 Hz ULF frequency was being emitted and recorded from 0:00 hours to about 10:00 hours – or for 10 hours. We know for a fact that the Japan earthquake lasted only a few minutes so why was the earthquake signature frequency (2.5 Hz) being recorded for 10 hours on the morning of March 11, 2011? First, a body is chilled down to 18 degrees Celsius. Then it's entirely submerged in liquid nitrogen, which freezes it solid, and makes it brittle enough that it can be shattered and pulverized into dust using high power sound waves. Next, the dust (which is still about the same mass as the body was) is exposed to a vacuum which boils off all the moisture contained in the dust, reducing its mass by 70% or so. Lastly, all of the inorganic stuff that may be left over is removed with an electromagnet, and the dust is placed in a coffin made of corn starch, all ready for a shallow burial that'll turn everything into compost within a year. Of course, this whole process is fairly complicated and certainly takes some amount of energy to perform on its own, but at the very least the end product is a bit better for the planet than some more traditional methods. More researchers believe that violent tendencies have a biological basis and that tests and brain imaging can pick them up in children. They argue that, by predicting which children have the potential to be trouble, treatments could be introduced to keep them on the straight and narrow. If the tests are accurate enough then a form of screening could be introduced in the same way we test for some diseases.  The theories were put forward by two leading criminologists at the American Association for the Advancement of Science in Washington. Prof Adrian Raine, a British criminologist, argued that abnormal physical brain make-up could be a cause of criminality, as well as helping to predict it. His studies have shown that psychopaths and criminals have smaller areas of the brain such as the amygdala and prefrontal cortex, both of which regulate and control emotion and behaviour. He also believes that a lack of conditioning to fear punishment, which can be measured in toddlers before disruptive behaviour is apparent, could also be a strong indicator. Dr Nathalie Fontaine, who also spoke at the conference, argued that children as young as four exhibited “callous unemotional traits” such as lack of guilt and empathy that could also suggest future bad behaviour. Vladimir Mironov was put on indefinite paid leave by the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston on Friday 11 February for "a series of issues". Mironov was part of a team working on a US$20-million National Science Foundation (NSF) grant to help build capacity in South Carolina in 'biofabrication' — building organs for medical use by 'printing' out biological material. The money is going towards hiring people and building research infrastructure, says the University of South Carolina's vice-president of research Stephen Kresovich, who administers the grant. The university says the grant is not affected by Mironov's suspension. Mironov, who was slated to be director of a new Advanced Tissue Biofabrication Center in the Department of Regenerative Medicine and Cell Biology at MUSC, was helping to coordinate some of grant distribution. An official statement from MUSC's public-affairs spokewoman Heather Woolwine says that "Mironov's conceptual vision for biofabrication was important in developing the concept of the [NSF] Project." "Air laser could find bombs at a distance" [01/29/11] "U.S. scientists say a new "air laser" will allow soldiers to detect hidden explosives from a distance and help scientists measure airborne pollutants.  Researchers at Princeton University say they've developed a technique for generating a beam of laser light out of nothing but air, a university release said Friday. "We are able to send a laser pulse out and get another pulse back from the air itself," says Richard Miles, a professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at Princeton. "The returning beam interacts with the molecules in the air and carries their fingerprints."  Unlike previous remote laser-sensing methods, in which the returning beam of light is just a reflection of the outgoing beam, the "air laser" creates an entirely new laser beam generated by oxygen atoms whose electrons have been "excited" to high energy levels. Using an ultraviolet laser pulse focused on a tiny patch of air, similar to the way a magnifying glass focuses sunlight into a hot spot, oxygen atoms in the hot spot become excited as their electrons get pumped up to high energy levels, eventually creating a coherent laser beam aimed straight back at the original laser, researchers say. "In general, when you want to determine if there are contaminants in the air you need to collect a sample of that air and test it," Miles said. "But with remote sensing you don't need to do that. If there's a bomb buried on the road ahead of you, you'd like to detect it by sampling the surrounding air, much like bomb-sniffing dogs can do, except from far away." [...]"
