Business Owners Pawning for the Payroll "The US economy is in a downturn, so it is no surprise that garage sales are on the increase and pawnshops are doing a roaring trade. But business owners pawning stuff just to make their payrolls? This is gloom indeed."

Britain and the US, by invading Iraq, have cost the world a staggering $6 trillion in higher energy prices "The oil economist Dr Mamdouh Salameh, who advises both the World Bank and the UN Industrial Development Organisation (Unido), told The Independent on Sunday that the price of oil would now be no more than $40 a barrel, less than a third of the record $135 a barrel reached last week, if it had not been for the Iraq war ...."  Yes, George Bush has totally screwed the entire planet.

Senators Say Iran Strike Report Untrue "An anonymously sourced report that emerged Wednesday claims President Bush plans to launch an attack against Iran before summer's end, but aides to two Senators who were supposedly told of the plan tell RAW STORY that the report is absolutely untrue. Asia Times correspondent Muhammad Cohen, reporting from New York, writes that an "informed source" has clued him in to plans from the Bush administration "to launch an air strike against Iran within the next two months." Cohen's source told him that Sens. Diane Feinstein (D-CA), who is on the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Richard Lugar (R-IN), the ranking member of the Foreign Relations Committee, were secretly briefed on the administration's plans and were prepared to write a New York Times op-ed condemning Bush. Aides to the two senators were quick to deny the report."   I guess we'll see, won't we?

Bush Plans Iran Air Strike Within Two Months "The George W Bush administration plans to launch an air strike against Iran within the next two months, an informed source tells Asia Times Online, echoing other reports that have surfaced in the media in the United States recently. Two key US senators briefed on the attack planned to go public with their opposition to the move, according to the source, but their projected New York Times op-ed piece has yet to appear. The source, a retired US career diplomat and former assistant secretary of state still active in the foreign affairs community, speaking anonymously, said last week that that the US plans an air strike against the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). The air strike would target the headquarters of the IRGC's elite Quds force. With an estimated strength of up to 90,000 fighters, the Quds' stated mission is to spread Iran's revolution of 1979 throughout the region ..."  Related: See article above

Exxon Mobil Rejects Rockefeller Proposals "Exxon Mobil Chairman and Chief Executive Rex Tillerson will keep both of those titles after a shareholder resolution to split the jobs was defeated Wednesday ..."

Rockefellers Seek Change At Exxon "The Rockefeller family built one of the great American fortunes by supplying the nation with oil. Now history has come full circle: some family members say it is time to start moving beyond the oil age. The family members have thrown their support behind a shareholder rebellion that is ruffling feathers at Exxon Mobil, the giant oil company descended from John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Trust. Three of the resolutions, to be voted on at the company’s shareholder meeting on Wednesday, are considered unlikely to pass, even with Rockefeller family support. The resolutions ask Exxon to take the threat of global warming more seriously and look for alternatives to spewing greenhouse gases into the air. One resolution would urge the company to study the impact of global warming on poor countries, another would encourage Exxon to reduce its emissions and a third would encourage it to do more research on renewable energy sources like solar panels and wind turbines. A fourth resolution, which the Rockefellers are most united in supporting, is considered more likely to pass. It would strip Rex W. Tillerson of his position as chairman of Exxon’s board, forcing the company to separate that job from the chief executive’s job. A shareholder vote in favor of that idea would be a rebuke of Mr. Tillerson, who is widely perceived as more resistant than other oil chieftains to investing in alternative energy. The Rockefellers say they are not trying to embarrass Mr. Tillerson, also Exxon’s chief executive, but think it is time for the company to spend more of its funds helping the nation chart a new energy future."  (A New Future of Greed) like that's going to happen ...

Jobless Youths In UK To Be Put Into Boot Camps "A future Conservative government will bring in "boot camps" for unemployed young people aged between 18 and 21 who refuse to take a job, Chris Grayling, the party's welfare spokesman, will say tomorrow. In a significant hardening of Conservative policy towards welfare claimants, he will announce the abolition of benefit payments for any able-bodied person under 21 who is out of work for more than three months and who refuses to go on a compulsory community service programme or a "boot camp" training course aimed at improving their work discipline and giving them basic skills to get a job."

Hirsch (SAIC) Repeats $15 Gas Prediction "Robert Hirsch, senior advisor for Science Applications International Corporation, sat down with MSNBC’s Alex Witt to discuss the possibility of an upcoming oil crisis. Hirsch says that gas could reach $15/gallon 'within a few years' because it is “essentially certain” the world has reached the maximum levels of oil production.."  That's not going to happen, either.

Sarkozy calls for tax cut as fuel protests spread in Europe "French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Tuesday called for a cut in European oil taxes to help consumers as fishermen and truck drivers across the continent staged protests against soaring prices."

IAEA: No N-weaponization found in Iran " The IAEA has not detected the use of nuclear material linked to Iran's "alleged studies" of weaponization, the agency's latest report says. The findings are part of a restricted International Atomic Energy Agency report forwarded to the UN Security Council and to the 35 board members of the agency on Monday, May 26. “The Agency has been able to continue to verify the non-diversion of declared nuclear material in Iran. Iran has provided the Agency with access to declared nuclear material and has provided the required nuclear material accountancy reports in connection with declared nuclear material and activities,” said the report, a copy of which was obtained by Press TV."

Minnesota House, Senate both reject Real ID " The House and Senate have approved a bill that would bar state driver's license authorities from implementing the federal Real ID regulations. The Real ID mandate would require every citizen to carry a U.S. government-approved card to board a plane or enter a federal facility. Critics say it will be costly to implement and that too much of people's personal information will be added to a national database."

Buffett Sees Deep U.S. Recession " ...The United States is already in a recession and it will be longer as well as deeper than many people expect, U.S. investor Warren Buffett said in an interview published in German magazine Der Spiegel on Saturday. "It will be deeper and last longer than many think." Buffett also renewed his criticism of derivatives trading. "It's not right that hundreds of thousands of jobs are being eliminated, that entire industrial sectors in the real economy are being wiped out by financial bets even though the sectors are actually in good health." Buffett complained about the lack of effective controls. "That's the problem," he said. "You can't steer it, you can't regulate it anymore. You can't get the genie back in the bottle."  Related: Derivatives Market Grows To $596 Trillion

Each floor will rotate a maximum of one full rotation in 90 minutes."

Probing the Nature Spirit Kingdom: Chinese sending plant seeds into space to produce giant crops on Earth    " ... While most governments are reacting to the global food shortage by growing more food, the Chinese have decided to grow the same amount of fruits and vegetables, but with A TWIST: giant versions of standard food staples: 210-pound pumpkins, 2-pound tomatoes, and cucumbers that are over 2-feet long -- that are currently feeding families in 22 of China's provinces, and governments in Europe, Japan and elsewhere are taking notice. This weird, believe-it-or-not scenario becomes even more fantastic as it turns out that the reason these foods can grow so huge is because they've been sent to outer space. The seeds get blasted into outer space, and, after they return, transform into enormous eatables -- but no one knows why...." | Plants Can Control Weather in Their Location According to researchers at the Scottish Association for Marine Science and the University of Manchester, brown seaweed, kelp, has the ability to create cloudy days at the seaside. But why would plants want to alter weather patterns? Apparently, because cloudy days make the plants more comfortable. When the sky is overcast kelp are comfortable when the tide goes out, since they are able to stay moist until it comes back. On a bright day however, they dry out. When they start getting dry the plants become stressed and begin releasing iodide. The iodide rises, causing clouds to form overhead, which in turns protects the kelp from unwelcome sunshine. This discovery reveals just one more fascinating secret of the green kingdom, a kingdom that is just barely beginning to be understood by humans. For most of history scientists, and mankind in general, considered plants to be passive organisms just with no reason or means of communicating with one another. But research earlier this year also revealed that many plants actually ‘chat’ quite a bit over their own networks (which may also indicate that your aunt isn’t quite as crazy as you thought. You know, the one that talks to her petunias and expects an answer). This research, along with other emerging plant studies, is revealing that our current concept of plants is probably a poor reflection of reality. "Scientists are eager to discover more about how plants communicate and interact with their environments."

Pentagon 9/11 Flight 'Black Box' Data File Created Before Actual 'Black Box' Was Recovered    " ... A flight data file created by the downloaded Flight Data Recorder information of "American Airlines flight 77" was created on Thursday, September 13, 2001 at 11:45pm. However, as reported by USA Today, Pentagon spokesman Army Lt. Col. George Rhynedance reported that the FDR for "AA 77 "was recovered on Friday, September 14, 2001 at 4am, 4 hours and 15 minutes after the creation of the "AA 77" FDR data file. So, it looks like the data on which claims that the "passenger jet" was too high to hit the Pentagon are based on a data file that was created before the actual crash recorder was found."    Yes, that's because there was no aircraft that hit the Pentagon. It was a missile fired by the 911 cabal.

Pentagon Free to Release Bio-deforming Chemicals into Environment   " ... The Pentagon produces more than 750,000 tons of hazardous waste annually. Yet the military remains largely exempt from compliance with most federal and state environmental laws, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Pentagon's partner in crime, is working hard to keep it that way. For the past five decades the federal government, defense contractors and the chemical industry have joined forces to block public health protections against perchlorate, a component of rocket fuel that has been shown to effect children's growth and mental progress by disrupting the function of the thyroid gland which regulates brain development. Perchlorate has been leaking from literally hundreds of defense plants and military installations across the country. The EPA has reported that perchlorate is present in drinking and groundwater supplies in 35 states. Center for Disease Control and independent studies have also overwhelmingly shown that perchlorate is existent in our food supplies, cow's milk, and human breast milk. As a result virtually every American has some level of perchlorate in their body. ..."

Depleted Uranium Shells Used by U.S. Military Worse Than Nuclear Weapons   " ... Because DU has a half-life of 4.5 billion years, the Middle East will, for all practical purposes, be radioactive forever. The two U.S. wars in Iraq "have been nuclear wars because they have scattered nuclear material across the land, and people, particularly children, are condemned to die of malignancy and congenital disease essentially for eternity," said anti-nuclear activist Helen Caldicott." Oil hits new record of $127   "World oil prices jumped to a fresh record of $127.43 a barrel today on the back of a weaker dollar and fears over a shortage of diesel as well as a bullish price prediction from Goldman Sachs" (deeply involved in global financial manipulations, itself)  Remember when oil was $11 per barrel in 1999 .... before GWB.

Rumsfeld Caught On Tape: "Terror Attack Could Restore Neo-Con Agenda"   "Shocking excerpts of confidential recordings recently released under the Freedom of Information Act feature former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld talking with top military analysts about how a flagging Neo-Con political agenda could be successfully restored with the aid of another terrorist attack on America. The tape also includes a conversation where Rumsfeld and the military analysts agree on the possible necessity of installing a brutal dictator in Iraq to oversee U.S. interests."

Famed War Reporter Calls Pentagon/Media 'Propaganda' Program Illegal    "Feeding the military analysts "key and valuable information" in secret briefings by Pentagon and White House officials, the idea went, would make them the go-to guys for the networks and encourage the networks to "weed out the less reliably friendly analysts . . . ."

Home Foreclosures Hit New High   "In a further sign of the still-troubled US housing market, a survey Wednesday showed home foreclosure actions hit a fresh all-time high in April of 243,353. The survey by the research firm RealtyTrac said the percentage of foreclosure actions -- including default, auction sale notices and bank repossessions -- rose four percent from the prior month and 65 percent year-over-year. "The total number of US properties with foreclosure activity in April was the highest monthly total we've seen since we began issuing the report in January 2005," said James Saccacio, chief executive of RealtyTrac."

Real ID Defeated In Minnesota   "ST. PAUL (AP) - The House and Senate have approved a bill that would bar state driver's license authorities from implementing the federal Real ID regulations. Governor Pawlenty vetoed an earlier attempt to require that conditions be met before the state could change licenses to meet federal rules. But both chambers passed the bill by veto-proof margins: 50-16 in the Senate and 103-30 in the House. The Real ID mandate would require every citizen to carry a U.S. government-approved card to board a plane or enter a federal facility. Critics say it will be costly to implement and that too much of people's personal information will be added to a national database. Supporters argue that a more secure identification card will help in homeland security and immigration control efforts."

House Approves New Property Seizure Law   "If you boil it down to brass tax, this legislation allows the U.S. government to lawfully seize your computer if it has one unauthorized mp3 file on its hard drive. It also provides the authorization for the creation of offices within the executive branch to enforce a law that is impossible to enforce." The criminals in the federal government are now trying to legalize the seizure of computers and other property under the guise of strengthening intellectual property laws.

States Seize Citizens' Unclaimed Property to Balance Budgets   "The 50 U.S. states are holding more than $32 billion worth of unclaimed property that they're supposed to safeguard for their citizens. But a "Good Morning America" investigation found some states aggressively seize property that isn't really unclaimed and then use the money -- your money -- to balance their budgets. Unclaimed property consists of things like forgotten apartment security deposits, uncashed dividend checks and safe-deposit boxes abandoned when an elderly relative dies. Banks and other businesses are required to turn that property over to the state for safekeeping. The problem is that the states return less than a quarter of unclaimed property to the rightful owners."

Accounting tactics conceal a crisis for public worker pensions   "The funds that pay pension and health benefits to police officers, teachers and millions of other public employees across the country are facing a shortfall that could soon run into trillions of dollars. But the accounting techniques used by state and local governments to balance their pension books disguise the extent of the crisis facing these retirees and the taxpayers who may ultimately be called on to pay the freight, according to a growing number of leading financial analysts. State governments alone have reported they are already confronting a deficit of at least $750 billion to cover the cost of the retirement benefits they have promised. But that figure likely underestimates the actual shortfall because of the range of methods they use to make their calculations, including practices that have been barred in the private sector for decades ..."

Real Clear Numbers: 101,000 U.S. Casualties a Year   "Here’s how the figures add up, just for Americans. The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have thus far produced 300,000 psychological casualties, 320,000 brain injury casualties, plus 35,000 (probably understated) officially reported "normal" casualties. This adds up to 655,000 US casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan, an average of just under 101,000 Americans killed or wounded every year since the wars began."

House Fails To Pass War Funding Measure   "The House failed to pass a measure funding the war in Iraq on Thursday afternoon by a vote of 141 to 149, with 132 Republicans voting "present" to protest what they see as unfair treatment by the Democratic majority." 5/15

Feds: Methamphetamine Lab at kosher meat plant   "Federal authorities charged that a methamphetamine laboratory was operating at the nation's largest kosher slaughterhouse and that employees carried weapons to work. The charges were among the most explosive details to emerge following the massive raid Monday at Agriprocessors in Postville, Iowa. In a 60-page application for a search warrant, federal agents revealed details of their six-month probe of Agriprocessors. The investigation involved 12 federal agencies, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the departments of labor and agriculture. According to the application, a former plant supervisor told investigators that some 80 percent of the workforce was illegal. They included rabbis responsible for kosher supervision, who the source believed entered the United States from Canada without proper immigration documents. The source did not provide evidence for his suspicion about the rabbis. The source also claimed to have confronted a human resources manager with Social Security cards from three employees that had the same number. The manager laughed when the matter was raised, the source said. At least 300 people were arrested Monday during the raid, for which federal authorities had rented an expansive fairground nearby to serve as a processing center for detainees. The search warrant application said that 697 plant employees were believed to have violated federal laws."     Sounds like a Mossad-connected drug factory ... meth lab, weapons (see below) ...

Hundreds Of Arrests Predicted In ICE Raid on Iowa Meat Plant   "Federal agents descended upon this northeast Iowa community at about 10 a.m. today to conduct an immigration raid at a meat-packing plant. Agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement entered Agriprocessors Inc. in Postville to execute a criminal search warrant for evidence relating to aggravated identity theft, fraudulent use of Social Security numbers and other crimes, said Tim Counts, a Midwest ICE spokesman. Agents are also executing a civil search warrant for people illegally in the United States, he said. Representatives of Iowa’s congressional offices said they have been told by federal officials that hundreds of arrests are expected."  More on the Aftermath

Torture Center Linked To MI5   "A secret interrogation centre in Pakistan where British terrorism suspects are alleged to have been tortured after UK authorities had them arrested has been found by the Guardian. The centre, run by the country's Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI), is in the Saddar district of Rawalpindi. It is surrounded by high walls and watchtowers, and bristling with surveillance cameras. So notorious is the ISI that local photographers are reluctant to take pictures of the centre, although satellite images are readily available."

Domestic Spying Outpaces Terror Prosecutions   "The number of Americans being secretly wiretapped or having their financial and other records reviewed by the government has continued to increase as officials aggressively use powers approved after the Sept. 11 attacks. But the number of terrorism prosecutions ending up in court (one measure of the effectiveness of such sleuthing) has continued to decline, in some cases precipitously. The trends, visible in new government data and a private analysis of Justice Department records, are worrisome to civil liberties groups and some legal scholars. They say it is further evidence that the government has compromised the privacy rights of ordinary citizens without much to show for it. The emphasis on spy programs also is starting to give pause to some members of Congress who fear the government is investing too much in anti-terrorism programs at the expense of traditional crime-fighting. Other lawmakers are raising questions about how well the FBI is performing its counter-terrorism mission ... "The number of Americans being investigated dwarfs any legitimate number of actual terrorism prosecutions, and that is extremely troubling -- for both the security and privacy of innocent Americans as well as for the squandering of resources on people who have not and never will be charged with any wrongdoing," said Lisa Graves, deputy director of the Center for National Security Studies, a Washington-based civil liberties group."

Pakistan Government Set To Split   "One of the main parties in Pakistan has announced it is pulling out of the government, just three months after landmark general elections. Ex-PM Nawaz Sharif says his PML-N is quitting because of differences over the reinstatement of judges sacked by President Pervez Musharraf. Mr Sharif wants the judges, who became a focus of opposition to Mr Musharraf, to get all their old powers back. But the biggest party, the PPP, wants limitations on their powers. Both sides were eager to avoid the appearance of a major rift, but analysts called the pull-out a huge set-back that could lead to growing instability. It has been speculated that further cracks in the alliance may give a lease of life to pro-Musharraf parties which were defeated in recent elections."

War profits taint more than 25% of Congress   "An investigation by Ralph Forbes from American Free press reported on May 05, 2008 that more than a quarter of US senators and congressmen have invested at least $196 million of their own money in companies doing business with the Department of Defense (DoD) that profit from the death and destruction in Iraq. The report also edifies that 151 members of congress invested close to a quarter-billion dollars in companies that received defense contracts of at least $5 million in 2006. These companies got more than 275.6 billion from the government in 2006, or $755 million per day.  In 2004, the first full year after the current Iraq war began, Republican and Democratic lawmakers-both hawks and doves invested between $74.9 million and 161.3 million in companies under contract with the DoD . No wonder the Democratic congress kept approving the enormous spending bills on the war, since a significant portion of it happens to end up in their deep pockets."

Russia, US sign civil nuclear pact   "Russian and U.S. officials signed a key agreement on civilian nuclear power Tuesday that could give Washington access to Russian technology and potentially hand Moscow lucrative deals on storing spent fuel. To get the deal in place, Bush must still send it to Congress. It would become effective unless Congress passes legislation within 90 days to block it. A bill pending in the Senate would block such an agreement unless Russia has stopped cooperating with Iran's nuclear or advanced conventional and missile program, or Iran has stopped enriching uranium. The U.S. has similar agreements with other major economic powers, including China."

Florida Teacher Accused Of 'Wizardry'    "LAND 'O LAKES, Fla. -- A substitute teacher in Pasco County has lost his job after being accused of wizardry. Teacher Jim Piculas does a magic trick where a toothpick disappears and then reappears. Piculas recently did the 30-second trick in front of a classroom at Rushe Middle School in Land 'O Lakes. Piculas said he then got a call from the supervisor of teachers, saying he'd been accused of wizardry. "I get a call the middle of the day from head of supervisor of substitute teachers. He says, 'Jim, we have a huge issue, you can't take any more assignments you need to come in right away,'" he said. ABC News Shielding Cheney after DC Madam Hanging?   " ... ABC anchor Sam Donaldson has also been a rumored client, along with a law partner of Rudy Giuliani, associates of Jack Abramoff and many more Pentagon, DC and corporate insiders on a list of over 10,000 numbers. According to early accounts, ABC News correspondent Brian Ross had the exclusive scoop because Palfrey turned over years-long call lists for his staff to verify. After Cheney turned up on the list, the story, already on the ABC website and poised to run on 20/20, suddenly went away. No explanation has been offered as to why ABC reversed itself. Any mention of Cheney was scrubbed from their website and the 20/20 piece never ran. Vitter and Tobias had already admitted whoring, so the mainstream press continues to carry the DC Madam story without mentioning Cheney, excepting DC blogsman Wayne Madsen, who says his reporting is corroborated by multiple sources, all but daring Cheney to sue. Iserbyt blows the whistle on John McCain  " ... McCain graduated 894th of the 899 cadets in his class at the Naval Academy. Google It. Why would we want someone who was a failure and took his responsibilities so flippantly as our commander-in-chief? McCain was an irresponsible pilot who crashed 6 planes, and started a major fire on an aircraft carrier through negligent action. Why would we want someone this reckless in the most-important office on the planet? McCain collaborated with the enemy, was given "soft" treatment because his father was an admiral, and is known as "Songbird McCain" by those who were imprisoned with him. He is the MIA/POW family's worst enemy for his constant attempts to belittle their concerns and stifle their inquiries while serving in the Senate. McCain ditched his ill wife to marry an heiress when he returned from Vietnam ... He also has a track record of shocking verbal abuse including screaming profanities against his Senate Republican colleagues. The justices ruled 7-2 on April 16 that it did not, while allowing for possible future challenges ... The resumption of executions comes as prosecutors and juries have been turning away from the death penalty, often in favor of life sentences without parole, now an option in every death-penalty state but New Mexico ... Since 1977, according to the Death Penalty Information Center, death sentences nationwide rose from 137, peaking at 326 in 1995 before falling steadily to 110 last year."

Slavery and Involuntary Servitude   "The United States has less than 5 percent of the world's population and almost 25 percent of the world's prisoners. Are Americans more criminal than other folks? Or are there incentives that give the US the dubious honor of leading the world in prison population?"  In reality, the US constitution says: "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction." But it does.

Break-ins plague targets of US Attorneys   "In two states where US attorneys are already under fire for serious allegations of political prosecutions, seven people associated with three federal cases have experienced 10 suspicious incidents including break-ins and arson. These crimes raise serious questions about possible use of deliberate intimidation tactics not only because of who the victims are and the already wide criticism of the prosecutions to begin with, but also because of the suspicious nature of each incident individually as well as the pattern collectively. Typically burglars do not break-into an office or private residence only to rummage through documents, for example, as is the case with most of the burglaries in these two federal cases."

McCain accused of accepting improper donations from Rothschilds   "A US campaign watchdog has accused presumptive Republican president nominee John McCain of violating election laws by accepting campaign contributions from two prominent Londoners. At issue is a fundraising luncheon held in March at London's Spencer House, during McCain's swing through the United Kingdom. An invitation to the event lists Lord Rothschild and Nathaniel Rothschild as hosts, and indicates the event was made possible with their "kind permission" ... The federal election commission is unlikely to act soon on the group's McCain complaint. It is currently short-handed, a result of a political squabble between the Democratic-led senate and the Bush administration, and lacks a quorum to take action."

CBS News national security correspondent David Martin reports that the planning is being driven by what one officer called the "increasingly hostile role" Iran is playing in Iraq - smuggling weapons into Iraq for use against American troops. "What the Iranians are doing is killing American servicemen and -women inside Iraq," said Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. U.S. officials are also concerned by Iranian harassment of U.S. ships in the Persian Gulf as well as Iran's still growing nuclear program. New pictures of Iran's uranium enrichment plant show the country's defense minister in the background, as if deliberately mocking a recent finding by U.S. intelligence that Iran had ceased work on a nuclear weapon."
