Commentary: "George Soros Hosts Secret Elite Donor Summit In Miami – Will "Ensure Obama Re-Selection" [05/17/12] Printer Friendly Version "A secretive network of left-wing billionaires and their political operatives descended on the luxurious Biltmore Hotel in Miami over the weekend to discuss strategy for the coming elections. The location of the conference had been kept a closely guarded secret by the members and guests of Democracy Alliance (DA), a collection of ultra-wealthy liberal donors formed in 2005, and is reported here in a Washington Free Beacon exclusive. Attendees roamed the grounds at the 150-acre tropical resort on their way to cocktail gatherings, salsa dance lessons, and workshops such as “Occupy the Voting Booth” and “The 1 Percent Rule.” Local police guarded entrances as members attended a “partners only” meeting in the hotel’s Country Club Courtyard. The conference was attended by the biggest names in liberal politics, including billionaire financier George Soros, who has already pledged at least $2 million to pro-Democratic groups this cycle. The actual amount Soros has contributed may be much higher, according to experts. Contrary to Visher’s claim, in the past Soros has boasted that he “made many millions” off of similar political philanthropy, “which had at first looked like a fruitless venture.” [...]"

Beyond 2012: "Sources Inside Bilderberg Spill Cabal's Secret Plans" [05/14/12] [12:00] "Alex Jones has developed two sources within the Bilderberg Group who have confirmed that the secretive cabal is meeting at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles hotel in Chantilly, Virginia from May 31st to June 3rd, with further revelations about Bilderberg's 2012 agenda to follow. Jones said he was "contacted by somebody inside Bilderberg" two years ago and that he also developed another source intimately connected to the organization within the last week. The code name for the 2012 Bilderberg meeting is the "Palm Tree Conference," the source revealed to Jones. Over the last two days, Bilderberg members have been responding to their invitations and confirming their attendance at the 2012 confab, which will definitely take place at the Westfields Marriott. When calling the hotel, invitees use the code words "Palm Tree Conference" to signal their attendance and book their room. The hotel is closed to all other guests during the Bilderberg Group meeting and has no rooms available on its website for the duration of the confab. Sources from inside Bilderberg routinely leak the group's agenda and discussion topics to veteran American Free Press Bilderberg sleuth Jim Tucker. With Jones having developed even more sources inside the group, expect Infowars to obtain an even greater depth of understanding about how the secretive cabal plans to steer the globe over the next 12 months. Commentary"Secretive Bilderberg Group Set To Meet In Virginia May 31st-June 3rd" [04/25/12] Printer Friendly Version "Speculation that the location of the Bilderberg Group’s annual meeting would be chosen to coincide with this year’s U.S. presidential election appears to have been accurate with the likelihood that Bilderberg will hold their confab in Chantilly, Virginia from May 31st to June 3rd.  As we reported yesterday, rumors that Haifa, Israel would be the location of the conference appear to have been misguided. The Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles hotel, site of the Bilderberg meeting in 2002 and 2008, is fully booked from Thursday May 31st up to and including June 3rd, but has rooms available either side of those dates, suggesting almost certainly that it will be home turf for Bilderberg’s crucial 2012 get-together. “The odds were pretty high that in election year the not-so-public face of the Bormann continuity NATO P2 – otherwise know as the Bilderberg conference – would take place in the US,” points out Bilderberg.org’s Tony Gosling. Bilderberg sleuth Gosling notes that the choice of location will virtually guarantee that people flying into the United States to cover the conference will be met with “what have now become the ‘normal’ US pre-WW3 fascist ‘customs’ checks.” Indeed, after last year’s scenes in St. Moritz Switzerland, where Bilderberg members were directly confronted by protesters after a bizarre decision to take a ‘nature walk’ down the mountainside to their hotel, expect security around this year’s conference to be noticeably tighter. MSM: "Obama Shifts Location Of G-8 Summit From Hometown Of Chicago To His Camp David Retreat" [03/06/12] Printer Friendly Version "The White House abruptly announced Monday that it had scuttled plans to hold the upcoming G-8 economic summit in Chicago, and would instead host world leaders at the presidential retreat at Camp David in Maryland. It was an unusually late location change for a large and highly scripted international summit and came with little explanation from the White House. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel — the former White House chief of staff who personally lobbied President Barack Obama to hold the summit in Chicago — was informed only hours before the official announcement. White House national security spokesman Tommy Vietor simply said that Camp David, the rustic retreat in the mountains of Maryland, was a setting that would allow for more intimate discussions among the G-8 leaders. He said security and the possibility of protests were not factors in the decision, noting that Obama would still host the NATO summit in his hometown of Chicago from May 20-21. The White House said the G-8 summit would take place May 18-19. The idea of moving the G-8 to Camp David was raised to the president a few weeks ago, a senior administration official said, adding that the president was intrigued by the novelty of the idea and asked staff whether they could pull off the change. The official who spoke on condition of anonymity about internal White House thinking. [...]"  Note: There's thinking .... but little understanding about reality.

MSM: "Portable DNA Sequencer Demonstrated at World Economic Forum" [01/30/12] Printer Friendly Version "It was the talk of Davos, grabbing the imagination of a forum otherwise shrouded in gloom: a miracle machine that cracks the code of life within hours and could revolutionise healthcare. Patients will no longer have to wait weeks to know if they have cancer and their doctors will know immediately what kind of disease they have, allowing them to target therapies precisely and to avoid harmful delays or mistakes. Health officials confronted by superbug outbreaks will be able to identify the bug’s strain and begin planning treatment within hours rather than days or weeks, potentially saving thousands of lives. Soon, researchers in the developing world will take portable DNA sequencers into the field to identify new viruses and verify water quality. And police investigators will be able to develop a suspect’s DNA profile as quickly as their fictional counterparts do in glossy television dramas, while commandos on the battlefield will identify the bodies of friend and foe. The man behind the revolution is Jonathan Rothberg, master biotechnician and CEO of Ion Torrent, owned by US firm Life Technologies, which produces the Ion Proton — the world’s first desktop semiconductor-based gene sequencer. It turns out, I was a tad wrong. I would have had more luck finding a snowless Alpine mountain in the winter than finding people discussing a topic that did not involve technology. After a year that has included the social media-fueled protests of the Arab Spring and Occupy Wall Street, global Internet privacy legislation and billions of dollars in technology stock offerings, tech and social media have not only entered the building, they are the walls holding it up. Even the 102-page program guide for the World Economic Forum, where business, political and intellectual leaders gather each year to talk and frolic, has more references to technology and social media than any of the nerdiest Silicon Valley blogs I read daily. Of course, tech is not a new concept at the forum. Eric E. Schmidt, the executive chairman of Google, told me he had been attending Davos for 15 years, two years before Google was even created. But what has changed, I was told by dozens of people I spoke with, is technology’s infusion into every topic here. [...]"

MSM: "At World Economic Forum, Fear of Global Contagion Dominates " [01/29/12] Printer Friendly Version "They came, they feasted on smoked sturgeon and black truffle risotto, drank liquor paid for by global banks, endured dozens of security checks, and tried not to fall down in the snow. They talked about the perilous state of the global economy and the future of capitalism. Then, they headed back to their home countries -- many in chauffeured limousines, some by private jet. But as the people who run much of the planet wrapped up the annual festival of influence known as the World Economic Forum on Saturday, any sense of achievement was hard to discern. The participants arrived amid elevated unemployment in many economies, worries about government budget deficits, and fears that contagion from a financial crisis in Europe could infect the rest of the world. They went home with all of these worries intact, and perhaps reinforced. Nouriel Roubini, the economist who -- not for nothing -- is known as "Doctor Doom," noted that world leaders are divided on a great array of crucial issues, from arguments over trade imbalances and currency valuations to the threats posed by Iran and North Korea and the challenge of climate change.  [...] In private conversations here this week, senior officials from the United States, Europe and Asia expressed a mixture of resignation and alarm that Greece may yet default on its government debts, despite several efforts by eurozone members to cobble together a credible rescue. Some warned that such an outcome could spook investors into pulling funds out of larger economies such as Italy and Spain, raising the prospect of defaults in those countries. A few suggested this could eventually trigger the breakup of the eurozone and the end of its shared currency, an event that could produce panic rivaling that seen after the investment banking giant Lehman Brothers collapsed more than three years ago. In a riveting address here on Saturday, Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang recalled his place at the epicenter of the Asian financial crisis in the late 1990s, and the experience of the 2008 global credit pullback, asserting that the current situation is worse. "I've never been as scared as now about the world, what is happening in Europe," he said. [...] "

Commentary: "The Secret Facebook of Power" [01/25/12] Printer Friendly Version "At the Toronto based G20 summit in 2010, the men and women holding the purse strings of the world were forced to get on the Facebook-style network to access documents and communicate with each other, because email was strictly banned. Only 125 members were accepted - the finance and deputy finance ministers of the twenty countries along with a "sherpa" or guide for each member state. 55 of them decided to upload profile pictures too, giving the financial negotiations a more personal touch. It's highly likely that the remaining 60-odd invites were parcelled out to the global premiers, which means that it is likely, though not certain Barack Obama was/is on there. Users on the network were able to upload documents, read documents, message each other, blog, have live instant message conversations and see who was talking about topics they were interested in. "The idea is that there are communities around concepts - in the case of the G20 that could be where to stay in Toronto but it could also be hey - we've got this climate change summit coming up what are we going to do about it," said Heaslip. A "pyramid of privacy" allowed users to finely grade how widely they shared information. Opentext turned the software around in 3 months. It's not just global power-mongers who like to share documents on secure cloud-based software, it is used by other SECRET people, the Register was informed. "Lots of the world's most private and high security organisations use our software. Behind the barbed wire and high fences, these organisations need to communicate within themselves," Simon Lill, OpenText head of sales told the Reg. "We have several customers who require very secure networks." But these customers are so secret that he couldn't tell us who they were. [...] Opentext refused to disclose whether any of their top-secret ultra-secure networks had suffered attacks in the past few years, but gave a sketch outline on how secure the systems were. "The main strategy is decoupling it from the internet. All our software is highly-secure, penetration tested by security experts," said OpenText honcho Simon Ward, adding that they have different solutions for different clients - depending on whether the documents are about bin collection rotas in Surrey or TOP-SECRET things. "There are lots of elements in security, we're just one piece in the secure environment, our customers also work with RIM, Fujitsu, we just drop in the software," said Ward. [...] "

Commentary: "Davos 2012: From Capitalism to Fascism" Robert Wenzel [01/25/12] Printer Friendly Version "On Friday, I attacked Larry Summers for blaming the current crisis on capitalism. I thought he was a lone wolf attempting to see how far the anti-capitalist agenda could be pushed. I was wrong. It appears Summers simply fired the first shot in a new aggressive move by elitists to discredit capitalism outright. The elitists are gathering in Davos, Switzerland right now for the 2012 World Economic Forum. [...] Economic and political elites meeting this week at the Swiss resort of Davos will be asked to urgently find ways to reform a capitalist system that has been described as “outdated and crumbling.” “We have a general morality gap, we are over-leveraged, we have neglected to invest in the future, we have undermined social coherence, and we are in danger of completely losing the confidence of future generations,” said Klaus Schwab, host and founder of the annual World Economic Forum. “Solving problems in the context of outdated and crumbling models will only dig us deeper into the hole. “We are in an era of profound change that urgently requires new ways of thinking instead of more business-as-usual,” the 73-year-old said, adding that “capitalism in its current form, has no place in the world around us.” Some 1,600 economic and political leaders, including 40 heads of states and governments, will be asked to come up with new ideas as they converge at eastern Switzerland’s chic ski station for the 42nd edition of the five-day World Economic Forum which opens Wednesday."

MSM: "Downtown Chicago Will Be On Lockdown During NATO, G-8 Summits" [01/13/12] Printer Friendly Version "A large security perimeter will prevent motorists from driving and parking on some downtown streets during the NATO and G-8 summits, but the host committee agreed Wednesday to cover the cost of lost parking meter revenues. The 75-year, $1.15 billion lease that privatized Chicago parking meters requires the city to compensate the concessionaire — at the newly increased downtown rate of $5.75 an hour — whenever metered spaces are temporarily taken out of commission. In the case of the May 19-21 event expected to draw President Barack Obama and other world leaders to McCormick Place, that compensation could be substantial. Specific boundaries will be dictated by the U.S. Secret Service and won’t be known until four weeks before the event. But city officials acknowledged Wednesday that parts of the downtown area would be off-limits to motorists to protect visiting dignitaries. They are expected to stay in downtown hotels, eat in downtown restaurants and move to and from McCormick Place and about the city as Mayor Rahm Emanuel seeks to showcase Chicago on the world stage. Protesters contend the measures could stifle public dissent in Chicago for years to come. They include: dramatically higher fines for resisting arrest, more surveillance cameras, parks and beaches closed until 6 a.m., sweeping parade restrictions and higher fees for those events and empowering Police Supt. Garry McCarthy to “deputize law enforcement personnel” and forge cooperative agreements with state, federal and local law enforcement agencies. [...]"  Note: May 20: Solar Eclipse Gemini 0 degrees. MSM: "Tampa Police Prepare For Anarchist Attacks At Summer 2012 Republican National Convention" [11/26/11] Printer Friendly Version "Up to 15,000 protesters are expected to descend on Tampa next summer for the Republican National Convention ... Anarchists will likely disguise themselves as lawful demonstrators.[...]"  Note: The writer is either naive or deliberately writes her article to avoid the issue of the police AS the anarchists, which is what really happens ... and happens repeatedly in large crowds at every large gathering of significance. When this event happens, let's count the agents provocateurs working for the police department dressed in black, initiating mayhem, there to help justify the militarization of the police department under national security mandates, when this event occurs. More security theatre and terrorizing of society for political purposes. See if the 'anarchists' are wearing the same boots as the police ... they've overlooked that before, at the G20 in Toronto, recently. Now, astrologically this time period really sucks in terms of the dissolving cohesiveness of what is here, as you will see.

LaRouche: "G-20 Final Communiqué Shuns Reality" [11/06/11] Printer Friendly Version  "The final communique issued by the G-20 summit in Cannes, at the very least reflects paralysis and lack of leadership in the face of impending global catastrophe. The indecision visible in the summit communique caused European markets to immediately plummet, as the Greek Parliament prepared to vote on the fate of the Papandreou government. [...]"

MSM "Anti-G20 Protestors Rally In France" [11/02/11] Printer Friendly Version  "Thousands of anti-capitalist protesters have poured into the streets in the southern French town of Nice ahead of an upcoming G20 summit in nearby Cannes. Protesters were gathering on the French Riviera on Tuesday to voice their demands, ranging from eliminating tax havens to boosting money for development, the Associated Press reported. Activist groups from across Europe and beyond are expected to stage protests in Nice throughout the week, as Cannes itself will be locked down during the summit. The two-day G20 meeting, scheduled for November 3-4, will see world leaders discuss ways to save Greece from defaulting and help the Eurozone overcome its debt crises. Anti-capitalist protests have been holding mass demos in more than 80 countries in recent weeks to protest what they call an irresponsible financial system as well as economic inequality. [...]"

MSM: "G20 Meets In Paris: Three Weeks To Save Eurozone" [10/16/11] Printer Friendly Version [2:00] "As Greeks and Italians demonstrated outside their nation's banking centers, the G20's finance ministers met in Paris. The growing seriousness of Europe's financial situation gave the meeting special scrutiny, even though it didn't produce any major declarations. With Franco-Belgian bank Dexia needing a bailout due to its ownership of Greek debt, many at the meetings said private investors will have to accept greater haircuts, another word for financial losses. Europe and emerging markets suggested doubling the size of the IMF, but that was immediately opposed by its main shareholders - the US, China, Japan and Germany. A phrase often heard was “Three weeks to save the Euro”. Most believe that's a doomsday prophecy, but others say the world can't wait much longer for Europe to solve its debt crisis. A European Union summit will be held October 23, the last chance for the EU to coordinate its position before what many say will be a historic G20 summit. Many observers say that the squabbling here in Paris shouldn't be surprising, but if countries continue to hold a hard line next month at the G20 summit in Cannes the consequences could be severe.  [...]"

Commentary: "Aggression During G20 Rally ‘Perpetrated By Police,’ Judge Rules" [08/13/11] Printer Friendly Version "A Toronto judge has ruled that “adrenalized” police officers acted as aggressors at a peaceful political rally that led to dozens of arrests during last year’s G20 summit. “The only organized or collective physical aggression at that location that evening was perpetrated by police each time they advanced on demonstrators,” Justice Melvyn Green ruled on Thursday. He was referring to a demonstration at Queen St. and Spadina Ave. on Saturday, June 26, 2010. Green stated police criminalized political demonstration, which is “vital” to maintain a “viable democracy.” [...]"

MSM: "The G-8 Drill: Chicago Police Prep For Mass Arrests" [07/17/11] Printer Friendly Version "Battle lines between protesters and the police are already being drawn for the NATO and G-8 summits that Chicago will host next spring. On Thursday, an anti-war organizer said he was scouting potential staging areas for crowds of protesters expected outside the summits in May. Meanwhile, police Supt. Garry McCarthy said he’s been planning for three weeks. And he put a deputy superintendent, Debra Kirby, in charge of preparing the Chicago Police Department’s response. “We have to train for mass arrests,” McCarthy said. “We have to train 13,000 police officers in arrest procedures and containment procedures. At the same time, we will not stop patrolling the city.” [...]"  The summits will be held from May 15-22. Chicago is the first U.S. city other than Washington to host a NATO meeting. The Group of Eight industrialized nations will meet here at the same time.

Canada: " International Hearings on the Events of September 11, 2001" [07/15/11] Printer Friendly Version "Four days of international hearings (September 8-11, 2011) will be held at Ryerson University in Toronto on the tenth anniversary of this pivotal event. The events of September 11 have provided a pretext for a War on Terror that has replaced the Cold War as a global conflict framework within which military invasions and occupations have taken place. The focus on military solutions to complex human problems has sidetracked humanity at the very moment when peaceful interaction is needed to address genuine challenges facing humanity. Objectives of the Hearings: (1) To present evidence that the U.S. government’s official investigation into the events of September 11, 2001 is seriously flawed and has failed to describe and account for the 9/11 events. (2) To single out the most weighty evidence of the inadequacy of the U.S. government’s investigation; to organize, classify, preserve, and publicize that evidence; (3) To submit a record and a summary of the Hearings, together with signed Statutory Declarations by witnesses, to relevant governments, groups and international agencies with the request that a full and impartial investigation be launched into the events of September 11, 2001 (4) To engage the attention of the public and media through witness testimony as well as through public talks and media events during the four day event. Expert witnesses and scholars from the independent 9/11 research community will include: [...]"

Commentary:   "Documents Reveal Canadian Cops Used Agents Provocateurs to Disrupt 2010 G20" [06/25/11] Printer Friendly Version "Following the police state spectacular at the G20 last June, the cops were accused of infiltrating so-called black-bloc anarchists, who engaged in all sorts of pointless mayhem, including trashing a Starbucks and burning police cars (see video below). The corporate media had a field day covering these circus sideshow distractions while ignoring the larger issue of the globalists meeting behind closed doors and plotting to sell the national sovereignty of millions down the river. It was necessary for the state to arrange this sort of meaningless property destruction in order to offer a public rationalization for spending nearly a billion dollars on police state “crowd control” equipment (including L-RAD sound cannons) for the globalist summit. The Canadian state also granted the cops special police state powers by expanding the jurisdiction of the existing Public Works Act to apply to high-security areas of the summit site. It is now an indisputable fact the cops engaged in massive infiltration. According to newly released G8/G20 summit documents, the RCMP dispatched poseurs and agents provocateurs to infiltrate the ranks of anti-war, anti-globalization and anarchist groups. In 2007, Canadian cops were caught red-handed posing as anarchists during a North American Union summit in Montebello, Quebec. “Protesters are accusing police of using undercover agents to provoke violent confrontations at the North American leaders’ summit,” the Toronto Star reported. “Such accusations have been made before after similar demonstrations but this time the alleged ‘agents provocateurs’ have been caught on camera.” Photographs released showed the supposed “anarchists” wearing the same boots as the police arresting them. “Protest organizers on Wednesday played the video for the media at a news conference in Ottawa. One of the organizers, union leader Dave Coles, explained that one reason protesters knew the men’s true identities was because they were wearing the same boots as other police officers,” CBC News reported on August 23, 2007. Earlier workers erected a cloth barrier around the luxury hotel where the meeting will be held beginning today. The wall obstructing view of the hotel is an obvious attempt to prevent the media from observing the hotel grounds and possibly identifying its high-powered guests. "G8 Summit: Major Powers Discuss How To Contain “Arab Spring”" [05/27/11] Printer Friendly Version "The G8 summit opened in France Thursday with discussion on a response to the so-called “Arab Spring” that has seen mass uprisings against Western-backed regimes. The two-day meeting is being held under the shadow of the sharpening global crisis of capitalism, including the sovereign debt crisis in Europe and the ballooning US debt, which has now surpassed $14 trillion. The draft statement prepared for the summit includes pledges from the Europeans to confront fiscal crises within the European Union with “determination”, while it calls on the Obama administration to develop a “clear and credible medium-term fiscal consolidation framework.” In both cases this means the implementation of brutal austerity against working people on both sides of the Atlantic, which will inevitably provoke mass protests and resistance of the kind that have already swept Spain, Greece and other countries. "Bilderberg to Meet in Switzerland" [04/10/11] Printer Friendly Version "The shadowy group known as Bilderberg will be gathering this year for its annual meeting at the resort city of St. Moritz, in southeastern Switzerland, June 9-12, but they will have a lot of company. St. Moritz is a short distance from Davos, the site of the regular high-priced meeting of thousands of bankers, political leaders and other notables called the World Economic Forum. But unlike at Davos, where the press is always welcome, Bilderberg still tries to maintain absolute secrecy. Bilderberg has met in Switzerland four times over the years but never in the same city. Normally, when their sibling in crime, the Trilateral Commission (TC), meets in North America, Bilderberg does, too. This year, the TC will meet in Washington on April 8 to 10, but the Bilderbergers are avoiding the United States, in what may be an effort to fool the press. [...]"

"G20 Pushes Globalist SDR and China’s Role" [02/16/11] "French Economy Minister Christine Lagarde said her country will work to realize a planned transition to a global financial system based on several international currencies. France is currently head of the G20. Lagarde and the G20 want to undermine sovereignty of nations by moving away from national reserves into SDRs, or Special Drawing Rights issued by the International Monetary Fund. The G20′s mid-February meeting in Paris will concentrate on “reform” of the international monetary system. “Continuing demand for the U.S. dollar as the world’s de facto reserve currency, consequently still widening trade imbalances, and ongoing worry over how long the dollar can retain its excessively high value relative to other currencies, are sowing the seeds of renewed global financial instability,” warned Robert C. Hockett, an expert on international finance and professor of law at Cornell University. Hockett said the Chinese yuan will likely be added to the dollar, euro, pound, and yen as one of the principal currency components of the Special Drawing Rights. Lagarde and the G20 are currently debating the role of China. She said France favors including the renminbi in the currencies that make up SDRs even before the Chinese currency is fully convertible. In 2009, Zhou Xiaochuan, China’s central bank’s governor, said he wants a new globalist reserve currency to be controlled by the International Monetary Fund. [...]"

"Signs of Trouble as G-20 Ministers Prepare to Meet" [02/15/11] "As the center of gravity in the global economy swings further toward China and other emerging markets, developed economies still recovering from the financial crisis are looking for ways to recalibrate the pendulum. That task will be high on the agenda when finance ministers of the Group of 20 leading economies meet in Paris this week, three months after President Barack Obama and other G-20 leaders sparred at a tension-filled gathering in Seoul over how to resolve the trade, currency and monetary imbalances that are widening a divide in the world economy. Signs of trouble that had worried officials before the global financial crisis — volatile capital flows, exchange rate pressures and rapidly growing foreign-exchange reserves — have been gathering new momentum in emerging markets. Dominique Strauss-Kahn, managing director of the International Monetary Fund, warned in a recent speech that these issues could bring on the next crisis if left unresolved. France, which took over the rotating chairmanship of the G-20 in January, is leading a drive to forge guidelines that would send up a warning flag and prompt diplomatic dialogue when imbalances started to get out of hand. Officials meeting in Paris on Friday and Saturday will debate which aspects of a country’s economic performance should be used to help their peers identify potential problems, like current-account balances or trade balances, Christine Lagarde, the French finance minister, said at a briefing Monday. “China saves and exports,” Ms. Lagarde said. “Europe consumes. The U.S. borrows and consumes.” She asked, “Is this a balanced model? Probably not.”  [...]"

UK"More Evidence Of Police Infiltration Of UK Political Groups" [02/02/11] "The UK government has announced plans intended to block further exposure of the work of undercover officers in political and protest groups. In a move intended to draw a line under the exposure of a network of undercover police officers that have been working in political and protest groups for a number of years, the UK government has announced that the Metropolitan Police will now oversee operation of the National Public Order Intelligence Unit (NPOIU). The action, which shifts the NPOIU from under the purview of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO), represents a further assault on democratic rights. An extensive covert state penetration of protest groups came to light in early January, when a trial against six environmental campaigners accused of conspiring to shut down Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station in Nottingham collapsed. It subsequently emerged that the Crown Prosecution Service had been forced to abandon the trial when police agent Mark Kennedy offered to give evidence on behalf of the six. Kennedy had been undercover in the environmental movement for eight years, posing as activist “Mark Stone”. During this time his activities, which covered much of Britain and Europe, included not only the gathering of information, but also acting as an agent provocateur. Involved in organising, financing and leading campaigns, witnesses say Kennedy played a role in instigating violent confrontations with the police. These confrontations were then used to bolster the powers of the police and clamp down on demonstrations and opposition groups. [...]"  Note: A common and transparent technique in every country.

Commentary:  "Guardian Davos Journalist's Sinister Encounter With The Swiss Riot Police" [02/01/11] "My day began listening to George Osborne debate the fragility of the global economy. It ended sitting on the floor of a freezing underground car park, hands bound behind my back, in the custody of Swiss riot police. A peculiar ordeal in ostensibly the world's most peaceful nation began when, leaving Davos after four days covering the World Economic Forumsummit, my taxi to the Swiss resort's railway station got clogged in traffic caused by an anti-capitalist demonstration. I hopped out and walked past a line of police to reach a platform where an uneasy mixture of demonstrators, skiers in full gear and WEF delegates were milling around. There were a few yells and chants – and the tinkling of glass being broken somewhere nearby.
A train to Zurich arrived and as I boarded, my carriage filled with protesters handing out beers and leaflets.[...]"

UK"Plain-clothes Metropolitan police officers were at G20 demonstrations" [01/21/11] "The Metropolitan police was forced to admit today that one of its senior commanders gave false information to MPs when he denied having plain-clothes officers in the crowd at the G20 demonstrations in London in 2009.  Giving evidence to the House of Commons home affairs committee a month after the protest – in which thousands of demonstrators clashed with police – Commander Bob Broadhurst insisted " there were no plain-clothes officers among the crowd, saying it would have been too dangerous to do so". But committee chairman Keith Vaz last week wrote to the Met's commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson after questions arose about Cmdr Broadhurst's evidence in the wake of the unmasking of undercover policeman Mark Kennedy, who attended many demonstrations during seven years living as a spy among green activists. "Ombudsman finds G20 regulation of “dubious legality”; Citizens unfairly trapped by secret expansion of police powers" [12/20/10] "The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services quietly promoted the use of a likely illegal regulation to grant police “extravagant” powers on the eve of the G20 summit, Ontario Ombudsman André Marin says in his latest report, released today. The controversial measure – Regulation 233/10 under the 71-year-old Public Works Protection Act (PWPA) – “was of dubious legality and no utility” and resulted in a mass violation of civil rights, Mr. Marin says in Caught in the Act. The Toronto Police Service, which had requested the regulation because it was responsible for policing the areas around the security fence in downtown Toronto, compounded matters through its miscommunication about the reach of the regulation’s extraordinary powers, he said.  The Ombudsman found the Ministry, which had decided not to publicize the new legal measure, was “caught short” when Toronto Police misapprehended the regulation’s reach and used the authority of the PWPA to arrest or detain people who were simply in the vicinity of the security fence. Throughout the weekend of the G20 summit, police exercised their powers under the Act well beyond the limits of the security perimeter, even after the misinterpretation had been corrected. It was “opportunistic and inappropriate” to use the PWPA – a “war measure” that allows “extravagant police authority” to arrest and search people in the name of protecting public works – for this purpose, Mr. Marin said. “Here in 2010 is the province of Ontario conferring wartime powers on police officers in peacetime. That is a decision that should not have been taken lightly or kept shrouded in secrecy, particularly not in the era of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.” Going into the weekend of the G20 summit, no one knew about the regulation – not the public, not the press, city administrators or even key members of the Integrated Security Unit (ISU) in charge of management and co-ordination of summit security, the Ombudsman’s investigation found.  Worse, the Ministry’s decision not to publicize the regulation entrapped citizens who took the trouble to inform themselves of their rights and wound up “caught in the Act’s all but invisible web,” Mr. Marin said. “By changing the legal landscape without warning, regulation 233/10 operated as a trap for those who relied on their ordinary legal rights.” The Ministry also failed to ensure that police were adequately trained on the regulation, which contributed in part to the “chaos and confusion” on city streets during the summit, he said. “The Ministry simply handed over to the Toronto Police inordinate powers, without any efforts made to ensure those powers would not be misunderstood.” Ordinary citizens were shocked to discover that police had the power to detain and search even people who did not try to breach the fence or who declined to produce ID and tried to walk away, he noted. “Apart from insiders in the government of Ontario, only members of the Toronto Police Service knew that the rules of the game had changed, and they were the ones holding the ‘go directly to jail’ cards.” The Ombudsman’s investigation was conducted by the Special Ombudsman Response Team (SORT) and involved 49 interviews with senior government officials and numerous stakeholders, including several of the 167 complainants who came forward. The team also reviewed hundreds of pages of internal government documents and emails and, for the first time, a wealth of evidence obtained via social media such as YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. Mr. Marin recommended the Public Works Protection Act be revised or replaced, and that the Ministry examine whether any of the sweeping police powers it confers should be included in any new version, particularly whether it is appropriate to give police the authority to arrest those who have already been excluded entry to secured areas. He also said the Ministry should develop a protocol calling for public information campaigns whenever police powers are modified by subordinate legislation. The Ministry has accepted all the recommendations and agreed to report back to the Ombudsman on its progress in implementing them. [...]" NoteVideo  [28:46]

Canada: "G20 protesters ran into secret 70-year-old Nazi Era law" [12/15/10] "... Unbeknownst to citizens who had gathered for a peaceful march through downtown Toronto — similar to marches frequently held without incident in the city — the provincial cabinet had resurrected police powers from the 70-year-old Public Works Protection Act, enacted when the country was at war with Nazi Germany.  This, according to Marin, triggered "extravagant police authority" which the police went on to exercise outside the intended area, leaving citizens vulnerable to arbitrary arrest and detention far from the G20, and creating "the most massive compromise of civil liberties in Canadian history." If one were trying to dream up scenarios of overarching police powers, it would be hard to invent anything more lurid than the real-life tale of police yanking the prosthetic leg off 57-year-old Revenue Canada employee John Pruyn, after he was unable to move quickly enough from the designated Queen's Park "speech area" where he was sitting with his daughter. The war measures powers only compounded the problem created by the massive police presence assembled by the federal government. Harry Glasbeek, professor emeritus at Osgoode Hall Law School, notes that, with almost 20,000 police to monitor some 10,000 demonstrators, there were two "guardians of the peace" for every unarmed demonstrator. [...] The Star recently ran a series of investigative reports examining a lack of results and accountability for police officers probed by the SIU over two decades. The series, “Above the Law,” found evidence that Ontario’s criminal justice system heavily favours police and concluded that officers are often treated far differently than civilians when accused of shooting, beating and running over and killing people. “The record of the SIU has not been very good at pursuing charges against officers who have seriously injured people,” added Rosenthal."

"Nearly 100 Toronto officers to be “disciplined” over G20 summit conduct" [11/07/10] "Nearly 100 Toronto police officers will be disciplined for removing their name tags at the G20 summit, says the city’s police chief who also admitted charges were thrown out against roughly 100 people because the force failed to obtain appropriate arrest warrants.  Police Chief Bill Blair was called before the Commons public safety committee on Wednesday to explain his officers’ actions during the June summit which resulted in the arrest of more than 1,000 people.   Many of the people who confronted police over the tumultuous three-days of protests that closed down Toronto’s core said officers were not wearing badge numbers or name tags on their uniforms – allegations that were bolstered by photographs in the media.  “I have a rule in the Toronto Police Service, it’s my rule, it’s in accordance with the policy of my police services board, that our officers will wear their names displayed on their uniforms,” Chief Blair told the committee.  Faced with numerous complaints, the force launched an investigation and pored over 22,000 hours of closed-circuit videotape to identify “approximately 90” officers who were not wearing their name tags, said the Chief.  “Disciplinary processes have been initiated,” he said. When asked what kind of punishment would be handed out, Chief Blair said that has yet to be determined “but the discussion, I believe, is the loss of a day’s pay.” That would amount to about $300 for a first-class constable.  Toronto Police Association President Mike McCormack said no G20-related disciplinary action has yet been taken.  “That’s currently being investigated right now, so discipline hasn’t been handed out ,” he said. “I’m aware that some of our officers – I can’t confirm the number – have been notified of an investigation in regards to the name-tag issue, so the officers are in the process of responding to that right now.”  When asked why an officer would remove his or her badge, the Chief said some of the name tags could have come off during scuffles with protesters but other officers were likely trying to hide their identities. G20 ‘Officer Bubbles’ sues YouTube and users over cartoons [10/18/10] "When he first saw a video of a Toronto constable threatening to arrest a G20 protester for blowing bubbles, one YouTube user was so livid, he couldn’t stop writing comments. In fact, the man, who uses the alias “theforcebewithme,” can’t even remember writing the specific comment that now has him defending a $1.2 million defamation lawsuit launched by Toronto’s now notorious “Officer Bubbles.” Const. Adam Josephs seeks to compel the Google-owned YouTube to reveal the identity of the person who created and posted the videos as well as any information it has on the 24 other users who made allegedly defamatory remarks. The case highlights a collision between two worlds: The wild-west of social media, where people under aliases throw insults without pause versus the laws of the old media world, where people are held accountable for everything they write. “I thought my opinion was my opinion in this country. I probably might not even post anymore,” said “theforcebewithme,” a 59-year-old government employee from New Brunswick who refused to give his real name. ExposéCops Told - Hands Off G-20 Provocateurs [07/02/10] "...  As downtown Toronto witnessed burning police cars and a small group of thugs on a rampage, a police source tells me the only thing that stopped the officers from doing that was an order telling them not to. They tell me they could have rounded up all, or most of them, in no time. I have had several frontline police officers tell me they were told not to get involved. But even before that decision was made, says one insider, there was mass confusion and indecision. "The orders went from engage to, no, don't engage to engage to, no, don't engage,' " said an officer. "It was an absolute shambles. Everyone was talking over each other on the radio. Nobody seemed to know what to do. It was just a mess." The officer said that eventually there was "a clear order from the command centre saying 'Do not engage' " and, at that point, smelling weakness and no repercussions, the downtown was effectively turned over to the vandals while police, up to 19,000 strong, were ordered to stay out of it. Four police cars were destroyed and dozens of other properties were damaged.  "It was awful," said an officer. "There were guys with equipment to do the job, all standing around looking at each other in disbelief ... The Montreal riot guys were livid ... They just wanted to get in there and do the job but were told they are too intimidating." So who made that order?  [...] The inevitable inquiry, separate from the announced internal police review, will have to address this and a whole lot of other things. For example, why were a record 1,000 arrests made a day after the actual incident where very few arrests were made during it? "  One thing that did appear real was a police video surveillance image of the actual bad guys all huddled together in black clothing prior to the destruction.  Why didn't police brass act right then and there? After all there were only a few dozen of them against 19,000 strong. This picture shows the police brass knew the location of the real culprits and were tracking their movements. I saw them lob rocks at retreating police, smash and burn cruisers, spray-paint numerous structures with revolutionary slogans, and shatter windows with a seemingly insatiable appetite. I saw them target members of the media, myself included, with taunts, sticks and rocks.  What I didn’t see Saturday were any arrests taking place while this violence was occurring. Government agents have been caught doing this before in Canada. During the violence, the so called, “Black Bloc,” was left to run freely through the streets, terrorizing peaceful protesters and property alike. Later, frustrated that the police let the Black Bloc run free, people were seen intimidating entire lines of riot police and on one occasion actually pushed the entire police line back. Unmarked snatch and grabs have taken place on several occasions. From all indications, it is clear that most of the protesters were peaceful people, assembled for various causes, in a completely legal and legitimate way. Peaceful protesters, in mass, are the elites worst nightmare and have always been dealt with by using provocateurs and a massive, violent police force. With over 500 people arrested, one has to wonder how many innocent protesters and journalists were actually arrested in one of the largest roundups in Canadian history. Most of the 400 protesters arrested last night and others who may have avoided arrest didn’t see that violence. From their perspective, they were facing a violent police state. These demonstrations, militant but overwhelming peaceful, were resisting the right of the police to hold them to Queen Street. They think the people have a right to protest in a place where political leaders can hear them. They had nothing to do with torching police cars or trashing windows. One reporter even tweeted, “Shame on those that ordered peaceful protesters attacked and arrested. that is not consistent with democracy in Toronto, G20 or no G20.” Evidence is mounting that journalists have been arrested, while violent demonstrators were allowed to run free. They eventually backed off (a few feet) and we continued our report. For more information as the situation develops stay tuned to Press For Truth for our extensive coverage of the G8 and G20 summits. Detailing the G20 “security” pork fund [06/16/10] "Slowly, as always seems to be the case in Harper’s secretive Ottawa, details of the massive pork-barrel spending that is being hidden in the budget to pay for the G20 meetings have been uncovered.  Most egregious, and best covered has been the so-called “Fake Lake”, a Muskoka mockup as part of a nearly 2 Million dollar spa for visiting reporters where they can dip their toes in the water as they sip on free beer and file carefully managed press releases back to their home publications. Carefully crafted because, it seems, the reporters will have almost no access to the actual attendees of these meetings. In that respect, it hardly seems necessary that they even attend. A press corps carefully sequestered and enticed to do as little actual real reporting as possible by offering them lavish surroundings.  But managing the message has been Harper’s mantra from day one, so this seems hardly a surprising attempt. What is surprising is the way the press corps seems so willing to accept this.  Meanwhile, the further details of the pork serve no political purpose save the lavish pandering to Tony Clement’s riding. Details including a $100,000 gazebo, and nearly a half a million dollars to restore a boat, airport upgrades, a fake wooden lighthouse (not, coincidentally, alongside the fake lake), and various other infrastructure upgrades totaling nearly $40 million dollars, and almost none of which have any actual bearing on the meetings. Just pork. The fact that the steamship being restored is named BigWin seems mightily appropriate.  Indeed, there is no expense it seems that is not to be lavishly overdone for these conferences. Frommillion dollar backdrops to pose in front of, to the million-dollar purchase of four sound canons for the Toronto police, this entire effort has been done with all the fiscal restraint commonly ascribed to inebriated members of the marine services. The last G8 and G20 meetings cost their respective hosts a total of just over $130 million. Harper’s so-called Conservative stewardship is managing to spend ten times that combined amount with an a announced budget of $1.2 Billion which some analysts feel might balloon to over $2 Billion. Canada G20 – Meeting of the Global Elite [06/14/10] "As the G20 approaches, one has to wonder what the criminal elite plan to do next. After the recent Bilderberg meetings, we learned that they had given a green light to attack Iran, in what could very well be the start of World WarThree. One can only wonder what will be unleashed on the public following the G20 summit. Climate Change legislation and a world constitution for the financial markets are issues that are sure to be discussed. This shadow government, led by families such as the Rothschilds and Rockefellers have no respect for human life and whenever they meet, their plans tend to be extremely detrimental to human life.  The shear amount of security that is slated to be used during the G8 and G20 summits is absolutely flabbergasting. Over one billion dollars has now been spent on security for an event whose leader’s goals include a one world government. Money is not an issue with the criminal elite as is apparent with the purchase of a 5.5 million dollar fenceat the expense of the Canadian taxpayers.  Thousands of police and private security will be guarding this criminal cabal and they will operate outside of jurisdiction of the Canadian constitution. Contemporary Security Canada,, a private security firm who will be screening pedestrians at the entrances to the downtown Toronto security perimeter, has no legal right to operate within Ontario but was awarded the control none the less. Dan Dicks, of Press for Truth has reported extensively on this upcoming event. [...]"

Canada to mount largest-ever security operation for G8/G20 summits [05/30/10] "Next month’s meeting of the G8 and G20 leaders in Ontario, Canada will see the largest and most expensive security operation in Canadian history.  From Wednesday, June 23 to Sunday, June 27 presidents and prime ministers from the world’s largest economies will meet to discuss the ongoing crisis of global capitalism—first at the G8 summit in the resort community of Huntsville and then at the G20 in downtown Toronto, Canada’s largest city and the center of its financial industry. This will be the first time that the two summits are held back-to-back in the same country. The leaders and their entourages—some over a thousand strong—will be protected by thousands of federal, provincial and metropolitan police, troops from the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), and a myriad of national security-intelligence agencies. [...] Last week five organizers for the upcoming series of political protests that inevitably accompany G8 and G20 summit events were approached by security officials identifying themselves as agents of the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS). The agents were interested in ascertaining the “political affiliations” and “political work” of the activists. Protest organizers have already documented 27 such examples of police harassment. In an attempt to corral demonstrators far from the conference center, authorities have designated a “free speech zone” near the Ontario legislature that lies more than a mile away from the summit site. Initially there was some suggestion that the government would declare all protests outside the state-designated “free-speech zone” illegal, but in the face of a public outcry it has had to back down on this point."  Related: Toronto’s Communities Prepare for the G8 and G20 Summits "The leaders of the G20 countries, as well as their central bank governors, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and the European Union (EU) will be in Toronto on June 26-27, 2010. Nearly 20,000 delegates, 15,000 armed police and 5,000 media personnel will descend on Toronto [...]"  RelatedToronto Police Purchased 4 “Sound Cannons” For G20 "The near $1 billion price tag for the upcoming G8 and G20 summits may have your head spinning, but crowd control devices acquired by Toronto Police will have you covering your ears. According to a report in the Toronto Star, authorities purchased four long range acoustic devices, or L-RADs, also known as sound cannons, for the upcoming G20 summit, June 26th and 27th. Police said the devices will likely be used as communication devices. The L-RADs also double as loud speakers. Authorities in Pittsburgh were criticized for their use of sound cannons during the G20 summit last September when they unleashed an assault of piercing beeps before throwing tear gas and stun grenades to disperse a crowd marching toward the summit venue. It was the first time sound cannons had been used in public. The truck-mounted model can emit an ear-splitting 143 decibels, far above the pain threshold of 110 to 120dB. Some worry that if misued L-RADs could violate protesters’ rights. The Star reports three of the four L-RADs purchased by Toronto Police are handheld models capable of emitting sound heard up to 600 metres away with a volume up to 135dB. Small army to protect Toronto during June 2010 G20 summit [04/11/10] "Police forces have entered into an alliance to deal with the threat of violent protest at Toronto’s G20 summit with as many as 10,000 uniformed officers and 1,000 private security guards teaming up to protect world leaders.  Federal contract tenders obtained by The Globe indicate a small army will descend on Canada’s largest city this June, exceeding the estimated 6,000-police-officer presence at Vancouver’s 2010 Olympics.  The police security will come at a cost of hundreds of millions of dollars, although police officials would not confirm deployment numbers. Yet federal contract tenders posted online indicate how things are shaping up. “For the G8 Summit [in Deerhurst, Ont.] the RCMP/OPP will require approximately 4,000 personnel with duty-related belongings to be transported at different dates, times and locations,” reads a contract tendered for shuttle buses. “For the G20 Summit, the RCMP will require approximately 5,600 personnel with duty-related belongings to be transported at different dates, times and locations.” ..."
